I might be wrong, but might this just penalize employees of companies that fail to provide health insurance benefits?

/not that she has any experience with companies like Wal-Mart

Tunk87 [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 02:31:56 PM
Do people really have that short of memories?

The last time a Clinton was in power and tried to push something like this it helped hand control of Congress to the Republicans for the first time in over 30 years.

one point here:

Even if you agree with universal health care mandates and EVEN if Hillary could win.... SHE WILL NEVER GET IT PASSED.

The whole thing is an absurd talking point. It is a political fairy tale.

The ONLY way you EVER get huge changes (like social security or medicare) is when you have a LANDSLIDE presidential victory. Everyone and their mother knows that Hillary can't win more than 53 or 54% of the vote on the high side.

The only chance you have for universal health care is Obama winning a landslide victory, which is something he could actually pull off.

hillbillypharmacist: I'm hoping you were being facetious

Of course I was- but funny how one can't find any evidence of her experience there on her campaign website. I mean, that was a good 5-6 out of her '35' years.

so, would a military retiree - who is already participating in Tricare - be forced to purchase so she can have 'universal' healthcare?

Pretty much, yeah. I expect to see my payroll taxes double if Hillary gets this monstrosity off the ground.

They get fined for not having health care.

At least, that is how it has worked in states that have tried the mandate so far.

Saborlas [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 03:02:06 PM
Mitt the Schitt already pulled this in MA. If you don't buy insurance, you are taxed more. Because somehow those who can't afford it suddenly can after the gov't takes money away.

Yes, there is a gap between "qualifies for Medicare" and "can afford a real insurance policy."

Knew there was a reason I distrusted the biatch.

Indeed. And what about people who have a religious objection to certain medical proceedures? should they be forced to pay for something they consider sinful?

Should be interesting to see the court system handle questions like that.

Exactly. This is why I said earlier she had no chance of getting it passed. Only someone with a landslide would have any hope.

And you actually believe that? Based on what? Government accounting? There's an oximoron if I ever heard one.

I would rather invest that money myself so that I actually get some sort of return on it....oh, that's right. I can't keep it because the money taken from me is being used for other purposes.

Then, when people retire in 20 years...they'll get an IOU and a thanks for helping the government 30 years ago.

Well, I mean...I figured if you were going to throw out some fact based argument that shows actual numbers and a worthwhile projection...the least I could do is the same.

By all means, keep spouting random years for all you're worth.

Probably the same thing that happens when you don't pay your taxes - an arrest, followed by a trial and then a long jail sentence.

How's that 'land of the free/home of the brave' thing working out for ya?

it is clearly better to have other people pay for them through increased rates because the medical community wants to recoup their costs for those who can't afford the services and use them.

I don't want the stinking healthcare, I want to pay for good healthcare, as I do, on my own.

When the government makes something mandatory, everyone biatches saying "The government can't make me do shiat!" You know, when you let your attitude about the government stops you from worrying about your health situation, you need to have your head examined. But wait, you can't. Because you can't afford to have it examined.

People (some at least) know that. But, I was pissed at Obama for not closing the deal at the debate.

Why was she on the board of Wal-Mart from 86-92? Think a second. Was she a business genius? Ever run a corner store? A major investor (well she was an investor, but not that major)? Or was she the wife of the pay-for-play governor? Could it be?

Then, why was she on the Healthcare taskforce? Was she a widely respected health expert? A trusted elected politician? No. She was the wife of a guy who won with 43% of the vote. Then, she took that "mandate" and went all secretive. People hated that. The plan wasn't that bad. It would've been better than what we had. But, Hillary screwed it up.

Obama has not been in the US Senate as long. But, he's won more elections than she has. And he's taken every step himself, from knocking on doors in the projects to fighting a political machine in his state house district, to convincing a bunch of different voters in Illinois.

Might as well. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for a racist moron, whose plans are not only the anti-thesis to the freedom he espouses, but would also firmly plant is into the pockets of the Chinese even more-so than we are now.

jvl 2008-02-03 04:36:32 PM
So the fine article basically says that people who are completely uninsured will actually have to pay for their own damn health insurance. Those of you who are paying attention might note that those people currently get free health care from emergency rooms that everyone else has to pay for.

Making people pay for their own health care instead of making me pay for it? I don't see a problem.
