I was at the mall Friday night, and that exact same mural they have in TFA was in the Abercrombie & Fitch store. There were three young boys, probably about 8 years old each, standing outside, pointing at it, and giggling their little hearts out. I don't know where their parents were, but I got a good chuckle out of it.

If the US werent such prudes, this would be a non event.
No cops, and no giggling children.

I'm confused- Abercrombie & Fitch female models don't have breasts.

A breast? Oh noes! We can't let the rich spoiled children shopping at Abercrombie see a breast. Heaven knows what they might do! Why they might even...um...errr... do something!

The average American takes him/herself way too seriously. If they walked past a kiosk/newsstand in Rome, Paris, or Athens, their heads would explode. Silly puritans.

Probably because they thought the Abercrombie model was also an eight year old boy.

Paradisiacal paradox. A fundamental flaw in fundamentalists' thinking is fundamentally this: the cause of Biblical shame of nakedness was abetted by, and so plays into, the Serpent's hands (hands which were redesigned intelligently 6,000 years ago into oblivion).

To live in Edenic Grace, run around with dangly bits a waving and know that that's how God intended.

Also, God wants you to keep the bush neatly trimmed. And Jesus said "No fatties."

Will the Virgina Beach newspaper get in trouble for printing the picture?

This is ridiculous.

They did. The Jamestowne colony in Virginia was a going concern (some years better than others) 13 years before the Mayflower landed. There was a permanent colony, a Virginia assembly, slaves, and all the trappings of a modern early 1600's economy.

They were still religious nutjobs, but not as nutty as the mayflower crew. The Jamestowne crew was there to get paid.

I don't see what the big deal is. If they want to operate a business in society they have to abide by society's rules.

The store was charged with obscenity. Legally, it takes more than sex or sexuality to be obscene.

It seems that you do see what the big deal is, since "society" is the only group making a big deal here.

ZAZ ever been to Va Beach? There are signs up that say no #*!@ Virginia also has the bikini bars instead of strip bars. The largest concentration of military and you can't even get a decent strip club.

True. But I think the Mayflower's descendants ultimately had the greater lasting effect. In the long run, put your money on the true believers.

A&F: Hi. We are a clothing store. We sell clothing. What is clothing you might ask? See this? It a boobie. Well, it's mostly a boobie. We covered up the part they shove in your mouth to keep you alive when you come into this workd, because society thinks keepping babies alive is obscene. Anyway, we also covered it up to demonstrate what clothing does. It covers your naughy bits so you don't get arrested for obscenity.

Cop: You're under arrest.

That's society's role. Society establishes values and norms for everybody to follow. We don't want to be food poisoned so we pass laws regarding food preparation. We don't want our children exposed to overtly sexual imagery so we pass laws regulating it.

I walked past one of those stores on Friday, with my parents and aunt & uncle (their ages are around 60). Main thing I notices was a poster of people running away, and one of the hairless guys had some pretty prominent 'plumber's crack'.

according to the poll linked under the picture in the article, the pictures in A&F ARE too risque.

this should be fixed ASAP

If the mural was of people stabbing other people or something else really violent, there probably would be LESS a problem. Good job, America! Skin is scary, violence is okay!

I for one would prefer not to see gootse or animal mutilation pictures when I go to a clothing store. Yea, I know a topless model isn't the same; but if you're going to remove censorship you can't just remove some of it, can you? If so, you're a prude too.

Always nice to see some libtard arguing in favor of the tyranny of the majority. The honesty of it is almost refreshing.

So we pretend it doesn't exist (sex, sexuality, and the difference between men and women) and let our precious little snowflakes go uninformed. Because God forbid that they know the facts of life!

It is this kind of "ignore it and I won't have to deal with it" mentality that put "Dubbyachimp" in the White House!

Really this type of stuff should come down...hear me out before you scream that I'm a uptight, Christian, Republican, because I'm only a Christian, not the others...kids, I have some, they remember everything, they re-enact everything, so yes too much sex, violence, etc, on public display is bad, bad, bad, PUBLIC DISPLAY, behind closed doors, who cares, there are things for adults and things for kids and the line can't blur otherwise we have kids having kids, there are lots of teens and pre-teens who dress/act/talk far too adult, you know what I mean. When I was twelve it was baseball and transformers, now it's Hannah Montana and other far too adult entertainment. Has nothing to do with the USA being uptight, it's about responsibility, we all have it for each other. Honestly if we all acted in a manner that said "I'm part of the greater good" rather than "You're all part of the me-iverse" lots of issues would be solved, but instead we get responses to actions like this that show how self-centered we've become as a society. And if you don't have kids you have no idea what I'm talking about, but these are the kids that will hopefully fix social security, health care, etc as we age, so it might be nice to raise them to be responsible, decent people. Yes, ultimately it's my job as a parent, I get that, embrace it, but it does take a village.

I've never understood why the clothing store went to such lengths to advertise people WITHOUT their clothes on. And I shop there sometimes.

You know, I'd be more ambivalent on the issue since yes, in Europe this is common. But in Virginia Beach, you can't have imagery up like that, rightly or wrongly. I think a big part of it is that the advertising is heavily marketed towards teens and preteens as opposed to if it were an adult clothing store.

Of course, teens having sex is nothing new, but now I'm hearing of 10-11 year olds getting into it and I can't help but wonder the subtle effect of advertising on the general population is when the entire campaign has been a montage of "BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WEAR THE CLOTHES AND THEY GET TO FARK SEE THEY AREN'T EVEN WEARING CLOTHES NOW DON'T YOU WANT TO BE LIKE THESE PEOPLE?!?"

The conflict between conventional (American) morality and advertising has always been contentious. Eventually, the advertising crowd will win out.

Bannister Mall in Springfield, Missouri had to remove a replica of Venus De Milo a few years ago because of breast issues.

\also, Springfield in the Simpsons had protests over Michelangelo's David.

Ugh, this is why I live in Arlington, the most liberal part of Virginia.

The local governments scream about not being able to take our guns away (the VA Assembly negated any local prohibitions a couple years ago), but at least Arlington County won't let the local police go around doing stupid stuff like this.

Conservatism does not equal fundamentalism. It means keeping government out of people's lives. That goes for the nipple police too.

You need to take a few states, fence them off and toss all the nanny state, prudes, those who enjoy authority, adult children all the socially arrested emotional cripples, into them and give them their dream lifestyle. Make it like a heavily policed disney world.

But Ambercrombie and Fitch use black and white. we all know Black and white is artistic, therefore this is illegal seizure.

\^Flippant. Seriously, why not have some full on boobies to show off those jeans. I would be paying much more attention to those ads.

Yes, that would have been nice. Unprecedented in the whole of human history, probably. But nice.
