You ever seen a police report? I wouldn't want to be sending a short message to cops/departments who have a hard time with spelling, grammar and details. One cop made a report about me for some incident, totally got my name wrong. I was really close to ignoring the summons, because I was not the person stated on the form.

The last thing police need is to use a fairly new technology that'll confuse them.

Most of the Crime Stopper call takers are from an outside call center in Canada. Chances are an officer won't get to fark you over on this one.

rufus-t-firefly: FTFA: Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Why does everyone call their local "Our cops need your help" line "Crimestoppers?" You aren't STOPPING crime if it already happened. "Crimesolvers" would be more accurate.

Just posted in the Steamroller Thread...
Oddly appropriate here as well.

rufus-t-firefly How is it "Crime Stoppers" when the crime has already occured?

Because if you catch the guy and put him away for awhile (in theory), it will prevent future crime from happening, because that guy won't committing much crime for awhile (except maybe assraping other prisoners, but that doesn't count, apparently) and it will possibly deter other criminals. Why do you think we have a criminal justice system in the first place.

I would bet that an anonymous tip is traced back to the sender within two years. If a tip comes in that suggests the tipper is a killer or is a hoax that results in a death when cops break in someone's front door, the tip will be traced back to the caller if it is humanly possible.

If your killer has any sense at all, he'd use a disposable Trac phone to rat himself out with. Then again, I do understand that most criminals are stupid because if they had any brains, they'd probably find a crime-free way to live their lives.

Also, 911 text messages will be coming soon. Hopefully, people will have the sense to text their calls for help in plain English. Hopefully, they will understand that this is SERIOSE SITUATION and it needs SERIOSE TXTNG and not every abbreviation in the book.

Good point, even though you assume that Crime Stoppers has a goal of permanently locking up everyone who commits a crime. "Well, got 'em all." Many people say prison should be for punishment, not rehabilitation, so you can't just let them out or you won't be stopping crime.

However, here we are discussing a particular crime that has occured, then asking people to give the police information that will help catch the person responsible for said crime.

Uou can't pre-emptively stop crime by arresting someone, as you have to be suspected of a crime to be arrested. This is a quaint idea, held by people who have a pre-9/11 mindset.

Calling the cops to report someone breaking into someone's house doesn't prevent the crime (breaking and entering); however it could prevent items from being stolen - thereby stopping a crime in that sense.

Neighborhood Watch? That's more of a 'crime stopping' idea...even if it consists of little old ladies who dial "9-1" as black kids walk past her window, waiting with her finger poised over the "1."

/Would throwing the "IDY, my BFF Jill?" girl to the wolves count as a crime?
//How about the old lady 'falling' down stairs?
///The CHARACTERS, not the ACTORS
