This is not news nor fark.

pencil-man 2008-02-03 08:08:19 AM
I pooped a groundhog and it saw the shadow of my brown eye. (six more weeks of butter thighs)

good for them , worthless without photoshop of groundhog pic

Arch Stanton 2008-02-03 08:10:53 AM
Six more weeks months.

oryx 2008-02-03 08:11:31 AM
So in Canada six more weeks of Winter means an early Spring?

Einsamvarg 2008-02-03 08:11:38 AM
Marmota monax have to be, without any doubt, the most stupid members of the entire family of Scuiridae. They are lousy weather forecasters and their lack of opposable thumbs makes them all but useless in the service industry. I'm sorry if this comes across as speciesist, but I've never met a single groundhog/woodchuck/whistlepig that wasn't a complete burden to society.

good_2_go 2008-02-03 08:14:28 AM
I'll gladly take only six more weeks of winter.

hogans 2008-02-03 08:34:42 AM
I read that as Manitoba Perv.

I dismissed it as likely redundant.

Law Talkin' Guy 2008-02-03 08:41:37 AM
In Winnipeg, every year winter ends just in time for winter to start again.

Manitoba Merv sounds like the name of a professional wrestler who would've had a feud with The Mountie or something...

I_Hate_Iowa 2008-02-03 08:53:17 AM
Anybody have any idea how many days are actually shown in Groundhog Day? Everything I've read says 34 are shown, but I think that must be full days shown. There are many sections where they show the same thing happening over and over in quick succession, and there must be more than 34 days shown. Someone should count for me.

unyon [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 08:59:03 AM
You hardly need to be Nostradamus to figure out that there's at least 6 more weeks of winter in Manitoba. If spring shows up in all earnestness before the beginning of April, you'd be lucky.

Harold Ramis (writer/director) says that the day repeats for 10 years on the latest DVD commentary.

Ten years? I knew Bill Murray is mean, but yow.

But what does Handsome Jack Manitoba think?

Lumoclear 2008-02-03 09:15:54 AM
When in Winnerpeg, you must remember, it gets damn hot in the summer (sometimes it will hit 40 Celcius, to the Imperial Units types, that is HOT) and can get damn cold in the winter at -45 Celcius (to the Imperial Unit types, that is friggin' cold).

So how is this news?

CanadianCommie [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 09:26:07 AM
I could have predicted this.

Winnipeg is nestled in the asscrack of satan. In the summer you boil alive if the flies don't eat you and you freeze to death if you aren't dragged away by a roaming polar bear.

Thraeryn 2008-02-03 09:34:21 AM
Former `pegger. I'm glad I no longer live in a place where, on a cold night, exposed nose hairs freeze.

GottaBeKD 2008-02-03 09:35:37 AM
Am I the only one that read that there wasn't a groundhog involved in this at all, but rather a puppet?

I'm not saying that relying on a groundhog for predictions is much better, but a puppet? Because it's mean to wake up a rodent?

Manitoba Merv, that's my dad's name, too funny. Merv, not Manitoba, he lives in Toronto. Actually he lives in Mississauga, hmmmmmm.

blair.park 2008-02-03 10:53:09 AM
I wonder would you get the same result with a Beaver?

Highroller48 [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 11:03:23 AM
Only Six more weeks?

He must be new to Winnipeg.

Al Gore predicts there will be no more winters.

But then again, he is from the ice planet, Hoth, and temperatures above freezing are painfully hot to him.

FTFY

Screw Manitoba Merv, worthless ripoff. There hasn't been a worse one-sided celebrity wedding since Britney and K-Fed, and look how well that turned out for her.

There can be only one... and Phil is it.

Didn't Willy go all still and dead last year? Merv is the replacement I believe.

Predicted 6 more weeks of winter for the 'Peg? Well ain't this just the Ric Romero of the rodent world.

djtodd 2008-02-03 12:39:39 PM
You spelled it wrong. it's WINTERPEG.

mr_white_folks 2008-02-03 12:43:34 PM
Take that, global warming kooks.

I grew up in Winnipeg thinking that six more weeks of winter was an early spring, so I am really getting a kick out of some of these replies.

"Merv has been right pretty much every year, except in 1997"

He's either been right every year, except in '97. Or he's been pretty much right every year. You can't have it both ways!

Ghastly [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 01:30:46 PM
I think he's mistaken. Winterpeg gets only six weeks of summer at best.

tiiger 2008-02-03 01:55:09 PM
Ghastly: I think he's mistaken. Winterpeg gets only six weeks of summer at best.

It's referred to as "Contruction" not "Summer".

9 months of Winter, 1 month of Thaw, 1 month of Mosquitoes, and one month of Construction.

/Hate Winterpeg Manitscolda

THIS!!!

I can't believe I was looking forward to Winter last Summer/Fall.
I guess i was thinking about it with rose coloured glasses. [anything to get rid of those damned misquitoes and +33C weather.]
I pictured -10C to -4C [hey, it *was* a pretty warm winter the last year or two, if remember correctly] and nice fresh snow, softly falling. Instead we get -20 to -30 with a -40C windchill for weeks at a time, with an occasional teasing of -4C or -8C inbetween!!

/"Forcast for tonight:....Dark. With mostly scattered light begining in the morning". George Carlin FTW.

// cue "One Great City" by The Weakerthans.

/// i don't really follow the groundhog. It's just a stupid superstition.

If he sees his shadow it's six more weeks of winter.
If he doesn't, spring with come in 1 1/2 months...

Just like a pedestrian pushing that button on the stop light to make it change.

If one pushes it, the light changes to green in 30 seconds.
If one does NOT push it, the light changes in 1/2 minutes...

Lovin' the Groundhog's name.

*chants for Merv*

ridiculopathy 2008-02-03 05:38:31 PM
There can only be one. Merv isn't even eligible to be a contender.

Go away, Phaux Phil.

Do not want.

Bones3D_mac 2008-02-03 06:03:16 PM
You know,

I've always wondered what would happen if, one day, the groundhog just simply freaked out and died on the spot.
