I'm impressed that these burger people are living into their 90's. Maybe those of us trying to stay away from fast food are doing it wrong.

No helicopter looking for a murder
Two in the morning got the Fatburger
Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp
And it read Lovie Yancey's a pimp

RIP.

For a place called Fatburger, they have an extremely tasty veggie burger as well as a lean turkey burger.

Oh man, I could so go for a Big Fat Deal now, thanks.

Wow, I had no idea the founder of Fatburger was both a female and black. Doing what she did when she did it is even more impressive to me now.

There was a Fatburger about 5 minutes from my house on PCH when I lived in the LA area. That was a tasty burger.

/RIP.

fark Fatburger. They shouldn't be considered fast food. They take, at minimum, 10 minutes to serve you your burger.

Hell yes. Best veggie burger anywhere. Ever.

Ive only had Fatburger twice, beginning about 6 months ago...freakin awesome. Whats also surprising to me is that you have to be pretty farkin rich to own one (too lazy to look it up but I believe its like, half a million bucks).

Come to think of it, Fatburger would be fabulous for Superbowl watching... With fat fries and to top off the why-bother? a big diet coke.

I have never had In N Out or Whataburger (is that what its called?) but everyone tells me its the three of them are the "not-quite-fast-food" burger trifecta of awesomeness. I wish Seattle had a Fuddruckers, too. On second thought - its probably best that I live no where near any of those 4 places.

/MMM! Fatburger [drool]

You can EAT A DICK MOTHERFARKER

I love Fatburger. A burger with fried egg and bacon is the most ultimate burger served anywhere, all pretenders can step aside. Don't even consider Fatburger fast food, that's an insult to the greatness that is Fatburger.

RIP to the founder of one of the great LA institutions. I had no idea she was a black woman either. That makes the greatness of what she created all the much more amazing.

RIP, I LOVE YOU FATBURGER CREATING WOMAN.

I'm a midwesterner, and have never tried one, but maybe it's just good food served faster than average. That in itself is no cause for disrespect.
I, too, am awed at her success. Running a single restaurant is a hard way to make a buck--creating a string of them is incredible. Clearly, hard work agreed with her--she made it into the 90s. And it's good to see successful African-Americans enjoy a ripe old age. So many die prematurely.

Great place - got a franchise here about 3 years ago. Awesome food, but as mistatom said, it ain't fast (do they bill themselves as "fast food"?). Also ain't cheap.

Yancey launched her foray into fast food by partnering with Charles Simpson, who worked for a construction company and reportedly used stole scrap materials to build a three-stool hamburger stand on Western Avenue near Jefferson Boulevard.

I love me some Fat Burger, but I'm not sure the one I ate at for 3 years is real or a knockoff.

The one at Texas A&M, north side of campus, who spells "Fat Burger" as 2 words, is it a franchise? A knockoff?

I got Fuddrucker's quality for $3.50 in the early '90s because it was the nearest good place to where I worked on campus, and it's still under $5. To this day (10+ years after graduation) I am still comparing cheap-fast-good burger places to them in my mind.

Every trip to Las Vegas I try to get me some Fatburger. In and Out Burger too if I'm there long enough. I even tried the Fat with chili, cheese and a fried egg. It was actually better than I thought. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Fatburger

I hate bad burgers, but LOVE me some gourmet burgers.

Take me to a great restaurant and I'll pick the burger if it looks like there was some thought and great ingredients.

And I love Fatburger.

I consider White Castle to be blasphemy.

Never had Fatburger or In & Out (lives in GA), but Biff Burger in St. Pete, FL is awesome. Only 2 locations and they're both there. Awesome burgers.

//burgers turn me on

rbanzai 2008-02-03 02:20:17 PM
Fatburger is shiat. Even 20 years ago it was shiat. A large, wet, lukewarm burger in fat-greased wrapping, dripping its sopping innards all over the place.

If you like Fatburger you don't want a hamburger: you want a couple of limp buns soaked in condiments and fat with a sorry excuse for a patty doing the lipid slip 'n' slide somewhere in between.

Might as well go to farking Oki-Dog!

Flopsy 2008-02-03 03:46:50 PM
What do you do if you find a burger joint in Santa Monica that's better than Fatburger, and better than In-n-Out, but you don't want to tell anyone because it'll become a mainstream trendwhore attraction?

All 3 times I've eaten at Tommy's I got sick. I think it's that runny, greasy crap they call chili...

It's not like I eat Fatburger every day, only on special occasions. I'm actually quite healthy :D

I prefer to think of it as opposite the Monte Carlo. I honestly don't know how many times I have been. Usually I stumble out of the casino at about 11am and straight across the strip and order.

When I remember doing it I am impressed. When I don't remember doing it, I am even more impressed.
