fark responsibility. You only have to be responsible enough to make sure you aren't a burden to anyone else. From there on you can do as you please.

/doesn't play video games

AirForceVet [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 12:08:54 AM
Sounds like stoners I knew back in the 70s. Some now are in their late 40s and early 50s without a nickel to their names, living off minimum wage jobs, meager inheritances from deceased parents, relatives.

/Someday you just have to put down that joint and embrace the suck.

I'd really like to comment on this, but I'm trying to watch Stomp The Yard before going to Abercrombie and Fitch.

I'm a girl and do that, you guys don't get everything fun to yourselves.

Now, anyone wanna come over an play video games and listen to my obsessively organized music collection?

Or keep smoking and enjoy the suck. Frankly it doesn't have to suck at all, ironically, if you work hard enough and don't be a jaded arse. Life's too short.

/Tis possible.
//Wife and two kids.
///Still enjoy stuff.

i'm responsible enough to hold a job, pay my rent and bills (mostly) on time, and I still play lots and lots of video games.

Define "responsibility".

Now, brother that's my headache, don't you worry 'bout me.
Just mind your own business
(Mind your own business)
If you mind your business, then you won't be mindin' mine.

Mindin' other people's business seems to be high-toned
I got all that I can do just to mind my own
Why don't you mind your own business
(Mind your own business)
If you mind your own business, you'll stay busy all the time.

It was a Sunday night and I was broke. I had an aunt who gave me a bit of a stipend and a few quid from well-wishers here and there, but it was gone, and the dole wasn't coming till the following day.

Wow! What rugged individualism and self reliance! If any author has earned the right to decry the new "entitlement generation", it's this guy.

milk_plus 2008-02-03 01:34:43 AM
In other news Funyuns Still Outselling Responsibilityuns.

As long as people who aren't interested in responsibility aren't having kids or making a burden of themselves then I'm fine with them skipping out on mature relationships and pursuits in favor of a life of banal entertainment. For a couple thousand years some people from every generation have escaped the challenges of making something of their lives with booze, drugs, promiscuous sex, or daydreaming about a magical perfect afterlife. Now a generation raised on TV can add entertaining your day away.

Think about it- what possible benefit is there for a guy to get married and have kids??

Poverty, despair, and noise.

"Many men I know have no children and play video games. They still wear teenagers' clothes, they obsess about pop music and films and value themselves and their leisure activities over responsibility"

That is because every man that gets shafted in a divorce has half a dozen friends. Pretty soon no one is going to "take the point" because they will just get whacked.

Didn't we talk about this like yesterday or Friday?

I thought the consensus last time was that it was fine. Mostly because Fark is populated by nothing but.

When the writer of this column was born, the world's population was about half of what it was today. The people who aren't having children aren't the selfish ones.

/Also, video games are awesome.
//People who don't play them are generally either too old and set in their ways to give them a serious chance, or obsessed with the ideal of adulthood.
///30-40 years from now, we will have a president who grew up on Final Fantasy and Bioshock.

7of7: fark responsibility. You only have to be responsible enough to make sure you aren't a burden to anyone else. From there on you can do as you please.

Yeah, you're right. Just because your family, society, country, etc. have given you as much as they have your entire life, that's no reason for you to feel like you ought to return the favor.

After all, if there's one thing Wal-Mart, oil companies, and Microsoft have taught us, it's that everyone's better off when operating exclusively under the principle of unenlightened self-interest.

Occam's Chainsaw [TotalFark] 2008-02-03 02:00:00 AM
Onoes, someone's figured out that life doesn't have to be all about being a productive little worker bee, and that pursuit of personal happiness isn't such a bad idea! Quick, chastise them!!

WildMonkey 2008-02-03 02:00:34 AM
I am one of those!

Why do I have to spend my entire life so I can have a woman sit at home, biatch, and birth more problems my way?

My children would be as much my legacy as I am my parents, there's no point.

I rather live free, easy, do as I please. I take several small trips a year, I live very well, drive a sports car, buy what I want.

Commander Wiff 2008-02-03 02:01:43 AM
The world is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it's real, 'cause that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down and around and around. It has thrills and chills and its very brightly colored and its very loud. And it's fun, for a while. But some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question, "is this real? Or is this a ride?" And other people have remembered and they come back to us. They say, "hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because - this is just a ride."

And we...kill those people. "Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This has to be real."

It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try to tell us that, and let the demons run amuck. But it doesn't matter because - it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money - a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door and buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.

- Bill Hicks

Bad things happen when selfish, irresponsible people have children. Don't encourage them.
