Yep, they tried to tie up as many loose ends as they could. As I understand, they shot two versions because they weren't sure about the show's fate until pretty close to the wire... the one they aired, and one that was more of a teaser in case it got picked up.

The reason TV sucks isn't because the writers suck, but because the studios insist that the writers turn out bland dross with the depth of a spoon.
