Obama sure has a nack for attracting the daughters of ex-presidents.

Well, if anyone could screw up a good thing It's the Democratic Party. Endorsements like this should be a warning that nominating Hillary would be a mistake.

There is something happening in America today. That we are not as divided as our politics suggest...and together we will begin the next chapter of the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast, from sea to shining sea.

One thing that gets me is that so many Hillary supporters think her experience or something will allow her to pass all the extreme (mandatory health care, etc.) programs she wants.

Even assuming she wins, clearly she won't win by more than a few percentage points.

What Clinton supporters dont' realize is that you NEVER EVER EVER EVER get massive government changes when you barely win an election. It takes landslide victories to enable a president to enact something like Social Security or Medicare. Ditto for universal health care.

Hillary has no shot at a landslide victory. Obama does.

Actually Ike was asked to run for president by the democratic party four years before he was asked to run for president by the republican party. He wasn't really a dyed-in-the-wool republican, and only ran because he thought that his military experience would help the country out with what he saw as the crisis in asia.

The more you know ....

That is at least re-investment. It's taxpayer dollars being spent on taxpayers. It's not shipping dollars overseas like when you buy electronics, or clothes or most anything. It's not being spent on bullshiat wars, propping up phony governments, or subsidizing the health care of say Iraqis which we currently pay 100% for.

So you can stick this in both your pie holes.

Yea, I hear he was soft on defense and didn't think the free market could properly regulate corporate influence on government. Total hippie liberal, didn't understand that if we don't fight them over there, we'll fight them over here. I don't think he supported the troops, either.

Robert Welch, the founder of the then ultra-right John Birch Society, considered Dwight D. Eisenhower a subversive. There are many references on the Web to his famous statements about this. Here's a sample.

Robert Welch and the John Birch Society (new window)

In 1961 Welch published The Politician (better known as the Black Book). In the book Welch accused Franklin D. Roosevelt of deliberately encouraging Japan to bomb Pearl Harbor. He described George Marshall as being "a conscious, deliberate, and dedicated agent of the Soviet conspiracy." Harry S. Truman had been used, "with his knowledge and acquiescence" by the communists who "controlled his administration". His most dramatic charge concerned Dwight Eisenhower who was said to have been "knowingly receiving and abiding by Communist orders, and consciously serving the Communist conspiracy, for all his adult life."

I think that it is not unfair to say that the political heirs of the John Birch Society, which was reviled by former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover as a dangerous subversive organization, are today the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Okay, I'm not a die-hard Democrat by any stretch of the imagination, but how in Hell does the Democratic Party still get lambasted for "spending" and budget problems these days?

Pres. Term / (Increase debt/GDP)

Carter(1) / -3.2%
Reagan(1) / +11.3%
Reagan(2) / +9.2%
Bush(1) / +15.1%

Clinton(1) / -0.6%

Generation_D [TotalFark] 2008-02-02 06:42:54 PM
I'll answer:

The Democratic Party gets blamed these days because of:

1) A generation of adults remembers the 1960s to the 1980s, Democrats were basically the tax-and-spend party.

2) If they are in any danger of forgetting, Limbaugh, Fox Noise and the rest will gleefully continue reminding them today, despite that

3) Their own damn party is more guilty of it now.

So it is basically a case of nobody out there thinks for themselves and always thinks they know best, even when it flies in the face of fact.

They're not earmarks when my congressman does it, we need that military base.

And they have totally destroyed our balanced budget and ballooned our national debt (as the previous poster showed, the only two presidents in recent history to shrink the debet were the Carter and Clinton)
