Don't put sensitive information into the 'shared' folder and you're spiffy.

Yeah, the amount of fail that the possessor of that laptop has built up inside him... it's so epic it deserves a movie.

Kinda like bubbleboy, but... ya know... for mentally undeveloped.

Is it the secret document that exists on Miyamoto's computer that describes the /true/ chronology of the Zelda series?

It's a gubmint agency that has sensitive data on its machines...and they don't do program audits? (or have them done to them more likely)

I cannot IMAGINE the shiat that would hit the fan if I loaded Limewire on one of the machines in the SCIFmobile.

who the hell still uses limewire for anything? even the least savvy computer users have all switched to bit torrent, and limewire contains nothing but viruses now, anyway.

Almost everyone I know here in Newfoundland is addicted to downloading stuff. And everyone is on Facebook. I think it comes from having to spend half the year inside avoiding blizzards.

Wow, and they're not claiming it was a "hacker" empolyee illegally installing powerful peer-to-peer file sharing programs?

It's nice to know we Americans aren't the only ones with idiots in our government.

bittorrent is ghetto. there's much better alternatives out there that don't require me sharing anything. no uploads and as fast as my connect can d/l.

UK Gov lost millions of personal data in the last 6 months.

Maybe the government shouldn't trust their "sensitive data" to morans.

there's something to be said for leaching. has the RIAA/MPAA/whoever ever sued a downloader?

not that i'd know of course. just guessing.

... there's something to be said for leaching. has the RIAA/MPAA/whoever ever sued a downloader?

Most file sharing apps tend to share the completed portions of a file while leeching the rest, and then default to share them entirely when finished. Those paying attention can minimize the risk, but the vast majority are "sharing", regardless of their intent to do so, because they simply don't know any better. This is one of the major complaints I have with the lawsuit party by the RIAA. The well-intentioned, though ignorant, suffer, while the knowing abusers continue on unabated.

Filesharing will go on nearly without a hitch, and so be it, but the RIAA's intentional exploitation of technology neophytes irks me to no end. What has me seriously ticked off is the colleges that cave in and allow their students (you know, the ones they are responsible for educating) to be taken advantage of by ruthless sharks. How many of these students do you think have had to pony up some of their student loan money, directly or indirectly, as a result? Makes me ill. I'm still waiting for one of these students to be investigated for directly using a fed-backed loan to pay the RIAA off. That'll get the government directly involved in their extortion, and it's not like they can simply drop the case and walk away at that point... the deed is done. It's not like the students have many alternatives, in most cases. Helicopter parents have lawyers to get them dismissed, but the poor kids don't stand a chance.

You know the other day I did a search for "Britney spears rape lindsey lohan young pron gay boy filth hot asian schoolgirl sexy babe panties olsen twins preteen horse cock sluts" and all I kept getting were these damn peoples private information. Something must be done to fix this issue in limewire.

Canuckleheads! That would never happen in the US of A. When our sensitive data goes missing, it is because a laptop got stolen.

Somebody's been taking lessons from the Brits. Still an amateur when compared to the loss of data on half the population.

Don't you realize? That's their whole strategy - it's terrorism at its finest.

They could go after the people who download 500gbs/month, but then your average citizen would say "Oh, well it's still okay for me to download because I'm only downloading a single song. Not like those hacker criminals who download the whole internet."

Far better to spend their resources setting up honeypots on Kazaa and snagging techno-illiterate soccermoms and college students. The message that sends is far more effective: "DOWNLOAD ANYTHING AND WE WILL DESTROY YOU!!!"
