I'm doing my part to educate Hillary supporters.

I've made more headway by simply asking what people think her positions are. 75% of their assumptions range from incorrect -- to wrong -- to obscenely wrong. Once they are alerted to her real views, records, and positions, they tend to lose faith in her and move toward other candidates.

Having heard Obama speak at the democratic national convention, it wasn't hard to see that he was going to be the future of at least the Democratic party.

If the Democrats pick Hilary, they will get what they deserve. Come on Dems, this is the easiest election you have had in a generation... don't fark it up. If it's McCain-Hilary, I will vote for one, but feel gross afterwards... they are both bad, but it is hard to tell who is worse.

Obama on the other hand has the potential to bring optimism back to America. We can look back on the last decade as a speed bump, not a devastating pot hole. If he is getting this may people to switch sides (including me), he must be doing something right.

Susan Eisenhower is more than just another disappointed Republican. She is also Ike's granddaughter and a dedicated member of the party who has urged her fellow Republicans in the past to stick with the GOP.

Ah, Eisenhower...Remember when the GOP wasn't led by war-mongering Jesus freaks?

Me neither, but that's what history is for.

Seriously, GOP, get back to elevating TRs / Eisenhowers / Goldwaters and watch how many "libs" vote for you.

Or stick with the "Bombs 4 Jeebus" crowd, and watch lifelong Republicans desert you.

Either way is OK by me.

muck4doo [TotalFark] 2008-02-01 09:24:47 PM
Ann Coulter also said she would vote for Hillary over McCain. I've seen Dems here on Fark say they would vote for McCain if Hillary is elected. I don't put much into it. People aren't happy with the choices they have now, they'll change their minds later.

That Obama would be running, sure. That he'd be getting serious republican endorsements? And that republicans would be struggling to come up with a candidate to run?

THIS.

Living in NY, where people think it will go to Hillary, I just keep trying to tell people, "a woman in the White House is groundbreaking, but she is not the one to break that ground. She'll be just as, if not more, polarizing than Bush. I really don't think people are stupid enough to nominate her... but then again, 8 and 4 years ago, I didn't think people were dumb enough to vote for Bush.

Obama on the other hand has the potential to bring optimism back to America. We can look back on the last decade as a speed bump, not a devastating pot hole. If he is getting this may people to switch sides (including me), he must be doing something right.

I agree. I think he's just a breath of fresh air, and while it may be political games, I like the idea of a young, fresh, new face coming into office.

McCain really seems... old. If anyone votes for him, I hope they realize they're probably voting for his Vice Presidential candidate.

The Republicans dominated the presidency in the 20th century, especially in the 2nd half. But when you look back on the 100 years from 1900-2000, how many of our 'great' presidents were Republicans? I can only count Teddy Roosevelt. Eisenhower gets a gold star in my book too. But what about the rest?

Bush I
Reagan
Ford
Nixon
Hoover
Coolidge
Harding
Taft
?

What a bunch of farking losers.

The same can be said for Reagan. Reagan was a conservative, period. He still got a lot of Democrats to support him.

I vote for candidates not according to political affiliation but according to vision, intelligence, and judgment. The Republicans who are voting for Obama, I suspect, think the same way.

Now That's What I Call a Taco! 2008-02-01 09:31:22 PM
Some more good news for Obama supporters:

- Latest poll in CA has Hillary's lead down to 3 (well within the margin of error), an 8 point jump in recent days.
- Latest poll in NY has Obama making a 12 point jump (Hillary still has a comfortable lead, but that's a significant increase in delegates for Obama)
- Latest poll in CT has Obama with a 4 point lead (an 18 point turnaround since the middle of January).
- Latest poll in MO has Hillary's lead down to 4 (a 15 point turnaround from a week ago)
- Latest poll in GA has Obama opening up a 16 point lead (a ten point increase from a week ago)

Of course, if there is one lesson to be learned from modern politics, it's that polls are largely BS. But if there's one trend here, it's that every state is tightening up, and it's unlikely that Super Tuesday will be a deathnail for either candidate. So there's that, at least.

/YES WE CAN!!!

Heres one of the best points agaisnt Hillary (though there are many good ones): She plans to FORCE EVERYONE to have health insurance, whether they can afford it or not, and she thinks that tax breaks at the end of the year will offset the cost.

Say my fiance and I make $2200/ month together (yes we are that poor). We have bills totaling almost $2000/month (food and gas included). A family health care program will run $400/month.

2200-2000=200F that and F Hillary

He doesn't say much in his speeches. He mainly appeals to making people feel good without saying much about what he is going to do at all. The only people who are as inexperienced and say as little about policy while saying a lot of "feel good crap" that come to mind to me, are Reagan, and Bush jr. since WWII. Listen to the man, and then read in a transcript what he actually says. It comes off as no surprise to me the whole "Reagan Fiasco" came into being. He is modeling his campaign the same way.

He's not much of a Republican. The first president he voted for was John Kennedy, and I don't think he's ever voted for a Republican presidential candidate.

NO ONE says jack shiat in speeches. Speeches are just shiat to get your people fired up.

That doesn't mean obama doens't know his shiat. I thought he schooled Clinton last night on policy details and this morning he gave an economic conference and dropped some serious knowledge.

But no one wants to hear a doctoral thesis at a fundraising rally. I mean, come on.

Take a look at this:

http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/votes.htm

This is from the Crooks and Liars link a few threads below. This guy has missed so many votes since he's been a senator. I can understand why he did that in Chicago, but the pattern hasn't changed since he's been elected to the senate. Again, listen to his speeches, he doesn't say much of what he will do, rather he says everything wrong others have done in the past, and how he will be a change from that. As far as schooling people, it's easy to point out where people wen't wrong, when one never made a decision on the issue and decided to play monday morning quarterback instead.

BuckTurgidson 2008-02-01 10:12:05 PM
So, conventional wisdom on the Republican side is that Clinton will lose any of the big three Repiblican candidates, because, among other things:

- Her "negatives are high", meaning that tons of people despise her, as a person, as a politician, and as a symbol.
- The Republicans have a decade and a half of experience turning out voters against her.

So, my question for the Machiavellian geniuses who think that slamming Obama and promoting Clinton during the primaries will guarantee a Republican win in November, is: If the Clinton machine were to actually succeed in defeating a candidate with the positive, broad-based support and campaign momentum as Obama has, what makes you think a McCain or a Romney would stop her?
