We'll get results just in time for SUPER SATURDAY.

In California, where the largest batch of delegates is at stake, a record number of absentee ballots, voting machine changes and logistical headaches have left registrars worried that they will end election night with up to 2 million ballots still to be counted, about 22 percent of the expected vote.

and i absolutely positively don't believe the new stations would ever call the winner with only 78% of the vote counted.

Polls close starting at, what, 7 in some states? That means 9AM on Wednesday morning here... which means I get roughly 3.5 hours of return-watching before I have to get my ass to school.

God dammit. This is the heroin political junkies like me wait for every 2 years.

I'd be more worried about Tim Russerts head, that guy could fit a tactical nuke in there.

Wow, what a rambling piece of journo. Let's talk about Samoa, then some expatriates, hell, let's just end it talking about Fat Tuesday interfering with the vote... who writes this shiate?

But anyways, I think Torturous Thursday will be more accurate.

"Let's extrapolate the data so far ahead it's meaningless, so we can apologize later! Yay!"

I think it's quite appropriate for it to be Mardi Gras. I'll pick up some booze and drink heavily if necessary. Although yeah, the article kinda cuts off mid-point, it seems.

Pssh, CNN calls a state for anybody with 3% of the stations reporting.

And they'll be doing that for 40 HOURS on Tuesday/Wednesday.

/god help us

I say bring Dan Rather out of retirement, give him his crack pipe, and hope for a tie on the Republican side.

Now THAT's entertainment!

/And pray for a decisive victory for Obama on the Democratic side.

islay: Wolf Blitzer's head might explode assplode.

I love to hate watching CNN. I mean when the polls don't match up they switch over to debating whether or not the media has an influence in determining the winners.

Seriously guys, those in my college I talk to scare the shiat out of me. They vote emotionally and when I tell them what their vote really means (especially with the propositions in California), their head assplodes in anger because they 'think' they are informed when really they aren't. How hard is it?

It's Fat Tuesday next week? Pancakes and democracy - two great tastes that go great together.

MindStalker 2008-02-01 10:43:41 PM
Doran: Technically they call it based upon their Exit polls. If the exit polls are close they wait, if they aren't they will call it within minutes of the polls closing and 1% of returns.

MindStalker 2008-02-01 10:45:41 PM
Doran: Now if a whole state could get together and collectively agree to lie to exit polls that would be awesome, but I think they news media would hear about it ... :(

Is it a requirement for posting in this thread that you don't understand how news outlets can predict a winner before all the ballots are counted? If so, I need to find another thread.

Ahem.

Will someone explain to someone only recently paying attention politics what the hell Super Tuesday is, in layman's terms?

Thank you.

VRaptor117 2008-02-02 01:28:07 AM
It's a day when a 20 states(I think) all hold their primaries. What makes it a big deal is a sort of domino effect. One candidate may start winning 10-12 states and usually gets a ton of momentum and coverage, plus the validation of being able to win in states all around the country.

"Ahem?"

Are you serious? WTF? Look it up then maybe you can come back with something to post that isn't wildly inappropriate

Hem hem.
Super Tuesday ≠ alliteration.

Ringshadow 2008-02-02 02:59:23 PM
I could have sworn I posted a reply here already..

VRaptor117: Thank you kindly for the explanation, sir.

eatin' fetus: The 'ahem' was just an attempt to gain attention. Typed out throat clearing, all that. And I don't see how asking what the freak is going on is appropriate. Besides, now I know ^^

Super Fat Tuesday?

Maybe Hillary will show up in Alabama and flash for delegates?

Does Hillary win if she gets the most beads?

/Damnit. Where's Obama Girl when you need her?
