Doesn't matter since it's always been his militant Muslim roots that will be his unraveling. I mean, he was sworn into office on the Koran for God's sake.

What's funny is that Democrats will fall for the trap that Hillary is the "only one" that can beat the GOP nomination.

Basically, the Democrats should be backing the one the conservatives are scared of. They know how to attack Hillary, they've had almost 20 years of experience.

Voting record studies like this are a function of two things:

1) what votes you use to score them on
2) how you code those votes as being conservative/liberal.

National Journal, it seems, took all the issues voted on, and selected 107 where the two sides clustered on yes or no, coding the votes accordingly.

The Progressive Punch people started with a handful of Senators that they liked the best, took any issue voted on where the majority of these Senators voted the same way, and coded the votes accordingly.

I don't think you can really call either one right or wrong. The differences in results seem to be more a function of the methodology used.

I think the opposite is true- only Hillary, with her high-forties disapproval ratings, can lose a Democratic Presidential bid. Obama would win easily.

quatchi 2008-02-01 07:05:01 PM
First off, "Liberal€" is a good thing not a bad thing.

Secondly, "Conservative" should be made into a swear word after the last seven years.

Sorry, wot's that? Bush aint a "real" conservative?

That's okay there's no real liberals in the Democratic party either.

Finally, conservative rag lies about Dem presidential candidates?!

Ummm, wake me up if they ever tell the truth. m'kay?

Harold:
Well, either you're closing your eyes
To a situation you do now wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated
By the presence of a pool table in your community.
Ya got trouble, my friend, right here,
I say, trouble right here in River City.
Why sure I'm a billiard player,
Certainly mighty proud I say
I'm always mighty proud to say it.
I consider that the hours I spend
With a cue in my hand are golden.
Help you cultivate horse sense
And a cool head and a keen eye.
Never take and try to give
An iron-clad leave to yourself
From a three-reail billiard shot?
But just as I say,
It takes judgement, brains, and maturity to score
In a balkline game,
I say that any boob kin take
And shove a ball in a pocket.
And they call that sloth.
The first big step on the road
To the depths of deg-ra-Day--
I say, first, medicinal wine from a teaspoon,
Then beer from a bottle.
An' the next thing ya know,
Your son is playin' for money
In a pinch-back suit.
And list'nin to some big out-a-town Jasper
Hearin' him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no!
But a race where they set down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey'boy
Sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil?
Well, I should say.
Friends, lemme tell you what I mean.
Ya got one, two, three, four, five, six pockets in a table.
Pockets that mark the diff'rence
Between a gentlemen and a bum,
With a capital "B,"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!
And all week long your River City
Youth'll be frittern away,
I say your young men'll be frittern!
Frittern away their noontime, suppertime, choretime too!
Get the ball in the pocket,
Never mind gittin' Dandelions pulled
Or the screen door patched or the beefsteak pounded.
Never mind pumpin' any water
'Til your parents are caught with the Cistern empty
On a Saturday night and that's trouble,
Oh, yes we got lots and lots a' trouble.
I'm thinkin' of the kids in the knickerbockers,
Shirt-tail young ones, peekin' in the pool
Hall window after school, look, folks!
Right here in River City.
Trouble with a capital "T"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!
Now, I know all you folks are the right kinda parents.
I'm gonna be perfectly frank.
Would ya like to know what kinda conversation goes
On while they're loafin' around that Hall?
They're tryin' out Bevo, tryin' out cubebs,
Tryin' out Tailor Mades like Cigarette Feends!
And braggin' all about
How they're gonna cover up a tell-tale breath with Sen-Sen.
One fine night, they leave the pool hall,
Headin' for the dance at the Arm'ry!
Libertine men and Scarlet women!
And Rag-time, shameless music
That'll grab your son and your daughter
With the arms of a jungle animal instink!
Mass-staria!
Friends, the idle brain is the devil's playground!

People:
Trouble, oh we got trouble,
Right here in River City!
With a capital "T"
That rhymes with "P"
And that stands for Pool,
That stands for pool.
We've surely got trouble!
Right here in River City,
Right here!
Gotta figger out a way
To keep the young ones moral after school!
Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble...

Harold:
Mothers of River City!
Heed the warning before it's too late!
Watch for the tell-tale sign of corruption!
The moment your son leaves the house,
Does he rebuckle his knickerbockers below the knee?
Is there a nicotine stain on his index finger?
A dime novel hidden in the corn crib?
Is he starting to memorize jokes from Capt.
Billy's Whiz Bang?
Are certain words creeping into his conversation?
Words like 'swell?"
And 'so's your old man?"
Well, if so my friends,
Ya got trouble,
Right here in River city!
With a capital "T"
And that rhymes with "P"
And that stands for Pool.
We've surely got trouble!
Right here in River City!
Remember the Maine, Plymouth Rock and the Golden Rule!
Oh, we've got trouble.
We're in terrible, terrible trouble.
That game with the fifteen numbered balls is a devil's tool!
Oh yes we got trouble, trouble, trouble!
With a "T"! Gotta rhyme it with "P"!
And that stands for Pool!!!

Yup. If he's on the ballot, you could easily go to try and vote for him, and accidentally elect Osama bin Laden president.

Not worth the risk, I say.

Of course it was full of crap.

Every year the "most liberal" senator is magically the Dem's presidential candidate.

Obama is a centrist senator.

They just shift the definition of liberal every year for their own purposes. nowadays things like "wanting a balanced budget" are EXTREME LEFTIST!!! positions.... You know the stuff that used to be a moderate conservative stance.

Gulper Eel [TotalFark] 2008-02-01 07:55:30 PM
Bacontastesgood: I've never even heard of the "National Journal". That must be some great fishwrap.

You've never heard of it because its target audience is Washington insiders. What they make available for free is the tip of the iceberg - it's something like two or three grand a year for their various subscriptions, and people in DC pay it because they know the National Journal plays it down the middle.

Lots of farkers get it mixed up with National Review.

Anyway, why's everybody so defensive about this study? The Senate's key votes usually split down the middle, so you get sort of a reverse bell curve with all the Democrats on one side and all the Republicans on the other, and sometimes Joe Lieberman and Chuck Hagel wander around in the middle like they're in the company kitchen and somebody moved the coffeemaker. It's not like there's much difference between the most liberal and the 16th or 30th most liberal senator, especially when the reward for being a moderate is your party throwing you under the bus.

Obama's a liberal Democrat from a liberal city in a liberal state whose Republican party can't find its ass with both hands and a GPS. For a while the Republicans in Illinois actually seriously considered nominating Mike Ditka to run against Obama. They couldn't find anybody with enough party loyalty to take one for the team, so they wound up taking that bug-eyed nutter Alan Keyes, who makes Ditka look like Lincoln.

Big deal. Being "Liberal" in the United States doesn't mean very much. To a conservative a "liberal" seems to be anyone who believes in things like social security, universal health care and a balanced budget. Not exactly radical stuff.

Universal health care fitting very nicely in that category.
