It's still a long shot at anything decisive on Super Tuesday. Predictions are that they will both get 30% of the votes and split the delegates -- pretty much across all states.

Agreed.

Tuesday will run up the numbers, but I don't think either side will call it quits. The end game is going to be in the DC regional on Feb. 12th and with Texas and Ohio on March 4.

I wrote my boomer parents last night with my endorsement of Obama, encouraging them to vote for him. They are undecided in Maryland, a state in which the primary has become a bit more important recently. Hopefully it will sway them.

I on the other hand, live in WV. Where the primaries aren't until May. By that point the candidate will probably have been decided, but I'll still write in Obama.

Although Mary Matalin and James Carville seem to manage.

Actually, thats a bit misleading. Edwards didn't concede, he "suspended" his campaign. What that means is he gets to keep the delegates he's already picked up through the primaries. They can't ditch him until he officially quits.

The super-delegates, however, are free to do whatever.

Those numbers are from a poll taken at the beginning of January before the primaries began. I believe it was by Yahoo, but I'm not sure who they worked with. At any rate, alot of time for opinions to change.

FeedTheCollapse 2008-02-01 02:19:40 PM
as much as I like the news, my guess is that that number will change after the next poll. I think Hillary acted like less of a coont at last night's debate, so she might win back some of the people who were turned off after watching the SC debate.

Bill Frist 2008-02-01 02:19:52 PM

That was based on old exit polls asking Edwards people who their second choice was. I mean, obviously that only adds to 65% and it isn't like the other 35% are staying home.

One would think that Hillary has more than established herself as what she is, so if 60% don't put her as second choice they are probably leaning towards Obama or waiting to make sure he has substance.

ie... they probably have a low bar for Obama to get over to swing his way.

Both did well in the debate, but I honsetly feel like Obama won... because he wins anytime they both give equal perfromances.

People already know Hillary. If they don't like her by now, they probably never will. Obama has a low bar to jump over to get support.

Also, the big things going for Hillary are:

a) people thought her win was inevitable
b) they think she is more of a policy wonk and that Obama is light on substance
c) that she is more electable.

Obama did a good job last night show
a) Well... it isn't inevitable since they are neck and neck, he didn't need to shwo anything
b) He IS a policy wonk as well and can go toe-to-toe with her on the policy details
c) He is more electable than she is in a race against John McCain.

In what universe is Hilary more electable than Obama. The only reason she has a chance at the primaries is because old people are afraid of Obama because he is new, and Mexicans hate black people. I don't know why. They just do.

Amongst people who know their shiat, it is clear she is NOT more electable.

I agree 100%.

But a lot of her supporters are under some delusion that she is more electable and she has been playing that up ("I'm used to republican attacks, I can withstand them, Obama will get beat up" yada yada)

Cool -- I matched a lot of people who donated just before or around the time I announced the $3.01 campaign. I'm now looking to match people that are compelled to donate BECAUSE of the matching.

If you donate again, please consider my campaign -- also, spread the word to your friends,
maybe one of them will donate when they otherwise wouldn't.

Nice! I'm heading to see him tomorrow night in St. Louis. He's speaking at the dome in which the Rams play. I'm curious to see how many people he draws. Missouri is a major bellweather state, and St. Louis city is extremely Democrat. A huge turnout could indicate big things next Tuesday, knock on wood.

Take the Source with a grain of salt but here's a very interesting analysis of the competing Hillary-Obama trendlines (new window).

The short answer is if Hillary were the Incumbent and Barack the Challenger in a normal electoral race, most professional pollsters would now be regarding Barack as the odds-on favorite to win because, while he's behind numerically, his numbers show greater momentum which translates to enthusiasm which can drive turn out.
