Wait, so John McCain is insurable?

After having God-only-knows-what done to him for 5 years in a POW camp, the skin cancer scare, being a high-profile politician, and running for the most prominent political office on Earth? At any given moment, the odds are VERY high (at least as far as life-insurance odds go) that something or someone is going to do him in.

Maybe *I* should buy life insurance from this company.

The article doesn't say what the premiums were, but they must have been sky-high.

He hung out in a POW camp for years. Everyone already knew he was hard core.

So word on the street is he's going to pick up Giuliani as his running mate.

It would actually vindicate Giuliani's tactics - he got to hang out in Florida for a few months and soak up some sun all on someone else's dime. Now that it's time to be serious, he jumps onto old man McCain's ship and gets a guaranteed presidency when the old coot finally turns to dust. Woo :(

McCain is very superstitious. He carries little talismans - lucky charms not the cereal around with him all the time and if he forgets he freaks out. Really.

McCain pledged his fundraising list as collateral,

I wouldn't trust someone who is willing give private information of those who helped him for a loan to protect my privacy as president.

where is this "word" coming from? It seems McCain would want a guy who attracts the base not pushes them even farther away...

Chuck Norris died ten years ago, but the Grim Reaper can't get up the courage to tell him. John McCain died one hundred years ago, but God himself fears having him in Heaven.

Chuck Norris plays Russian roulette with a fully loded revolver... and wins. John McCain played Russian roulette with the Soviet army. This is why the Soviet Union no longer exists today.

Chuck Norris once punched a man in the soul. John McCain eats souls.

Chuck Norris once had a heart attack; his heart lost. John McCain can never have a heart attack, as a steel heart may never beat.

Chuck Norris can build a snowman out of rain. John McCain can build a snowman from his own blood.

Shaggy_C Quote 2008-02-01 11:37:02 AM
Question: By most measures, doesn't [Mr. McCain] have a pretty mainstream conservative record?

Answer: And, by the way, I think it would be hard for people like Jack Kemp, and Tom Ridge, former head of the Department of Homeland Security, and Phil Gramm, and all of the long list of conservatives that support me, both governors, conservative governors, and, in fact, your former lieutenant governor, who is spending a lot of time on the campaign trail with us.

But the point is that I'm proud of the people that have surrounded me and are supporting me. And whether they come from one part of the spectrum or the other, strong conservatives are ones who are supporting me, and I'm proud of their support. And I'll rely on people to judge me by the company that I keep.

Question: Tax cuts - So which is it? And if they were too skewed to the wealthy at first, are they still too skewed to the wealthy?

Answer: I was part of the Reagan revolution. I was there with Jack Kemp and Phil Gramm and Warren Rudman and all these other fighters that wanted to change a terrible economic situation in America with 10 percent unemployment and 20 percent interest rates.

John McCain - Because he KNOWS people.

I think this needs to be posted again. What a joke McCain has come .

"Judge me by the company I keep"

Yeah, sure, dont' judge me on my record or my stances or anything of substance. Just judge me by the friends i've made over the years (oh, except all the liberal, democratic and moderate republican ones. Only judge by the friends of mine who you like)

What do you mean, 'base'? The Republican party is a coalition of Social Conservatives (religious nutjobs), Fiscal conservatives (corporatists and objectivists), and foreign policy neoconservatives (blowupthebrownpeopleoids). Foreign policy conservatives are there too, but they're a fringe. So, to the point, of those three, which are you talking about? McCain appeals only to the neocons and to the older people who couldn't find a better alternative. Even there he isn't exactly strong. Giuliani is both a neocon and a huge 'cut taxes, spending be damned!' type, which the corporatist wing of the party would love. It would make perfect sense, especially given the fact that Giuliani was endorsed by Pat Robertson. That gives them some religious zealotry right there.

Huckabee would cancel out whatever little bit of goodwill McCain has gained with the corporatist "fiscal conservatives". They need that more than they do the religious right. Christians don't have the kind of money that the businessmen do. Just ask Supply Side Jesus.

It makes perfect sense to you to have a guy who is seen as a ny liberal on the same ticket as a guy who is seen as an open borders liberal?

Bush was an open-borders liberal in 2000 and 2004. What's your point? If it were really such an important issue, Romney and Tancredo would be the frontrunners.

Headso 2008-02-01 02:00:44 PM
Shaggy_C: What's your point?

my point is the ticket is comprised of people who appear to be too liberal for republicans to vote for, not to mention the fact that 9/11 guy is a lightning rod for bad press, there are pictures of him in freakin drag all over the internet.

Dude, what are you smoking? Their actually policy stances mean nothing when they've got an 'R' by their name. You're pretending like the Republican base actually gives a damn about anything more than lip service. Believe you me, the evangelicals will be out to vote no matter what. They'll just have to STFU and enjoy it because it's the only chance they'll have to avoid putting in the Commie Hillary or Muslim Obama-Osama in the White House.

Headso 2008-02-01 02:13:03 PM
Shaggy_C: Dude, what are you smoking?

usually weed...although whoever you got that "word" from about giuliani is prolly smoking crack.

You're pretending like the Republican base actually gives a damn about anything more than lip service.

and they won't even get that if 9/11 is the veep, IMO McCain will pick a guy that people aren't hugely familiar with, and he certainly won't pick a guy with crossdresser pics of himself all over the internet.

Corvus 2008-02-01 02:20:28 PM
Headso: my point is the ticket is comprised of people who appear to be too liberal for republicans to vote for

Terminology is breaking down because Republicans now refer to everything they like as "conservative" and everything they hate as "Liberal". I think you can make a case for Giullani being pretty liberal for a Republican but McCain really isn't it's just he is just moderate on lots of Republican issues so they like to label him as "Liberal" because they like to use it as a derogatory term and don't understand what it means.

Having multiple wars with nation you do not like is not "conservative", huge red ink spending on military is not "conservative", even this immigration issue is not a conservative issue but that's what people label it.

They want to ignore the details and the facts so they just use these labels and the sheep follow.

Baahhh 4 feet good, two feet bad,
Baahhhh conservative good, liberal bad.

Meh. it's been done:

I pray thee, bear my former answer back:
Bid them achieve me and then sell my bones....

Come thou no more for ransom, gentle herald:
They shall have none, I swear, but these my joints;
Which if they have as I will leave 'em them,
Shall yield them little, tell the constable.

Putting up a donation list as collateral and making a gamble on a huge loan -- what's he going to do as President, sell the information from Social Security to pay for his campaign promises?
