Not only are Mitt's children serving this country by campaigning for him, they are also giving up their inheritance to do so.

/Yay, Mitt's kids!

"Dumbass" would have been more accurate. If you can't raise enough money from the public they aren't going to vote for you either.

It's no wonder he wouldn't talk about it during the debate last week! Yikes!

Now, read this:

In the past quarter alone, the former Massachusetts governor pumped $18 million of his own wealth to financing his candidacy. That personal contribution helped bolster his fourth quarter fundraising total to $27 million, well beyond the $6.8 million raised by his competitor and GOP frontrunner, Sen. John McCain.

For comparison's sake, Obama raised more than $32 million in the month of January alone.

He had already loaned himself 18 million before then as well. So he's actually racked up 36 million in debt to himself, not counting this quarter.

Now that's the kind of financial leadership this country needs.
He is so smart S.M.R.T.

It's actually kind of sickening...just think what that money could have done for his family, his town, or his state...Instead it's going into the pockets of media fatcats to pump his message onto TV screens across the country.

He's worth 250 million. It'll be OK.

Just kidding. I agree, and think campaign spending ought to be limited at all levels. Anything the campaign takes in over that amount should go to relieving the public debt.

And this is sad because there's something sad about being a multimillionaire ?

I only hope that one day I can achieve this level of sadness.

Obama made this exact same point in the last debate. He said something like "Romney hasn't got a very good return on his investment, has he?" The only reason Obama mentioned Romney at all was because a question was asked about him. The rest of the time, Obama and Clinton were alternating between bashing Bush and McCain (and occasionally each other). Clearly, they both think McCain has the Republican nomination in the bag.

If you donate to Mitt, you're pretty much just helping him pay back a loan to himself. Wow, that sure is a great way to inspire people to donate to you huh?

The problem is, the Supreme Court has said you can personally give your campaign unlimited amounts of money (while campaign finance laws restrict how much others can give to you). Not coincidentially, lots of uber-rich people have been trying to buy offices lately. Fortuantly, they usually fail.

I'm kinda ambivalent about this one. One the one hand money certainly does have a distorting effect on politics. One the other hell everyone needs a Hobby. In way I suppose it beats the hell out of blowing the money on $500,000 watches $1000/night hookers and enough blow to paralyze and elephant

Propain_az 2008-02-01 06:01:59 PM
It's his money. He can spend it how he chooses.

\Don't be bitter because you're broke
