Reminds me of the old "Doonesbury" where the characters were lamenting Reagan's '84 landslide -- how if ONLY there had been a nuclear war the Democrats would have picked up both houses AND the White House.

Except that comic strip was parody and satire. This guy means it.

Rudy should have staged a terrorist attack himself. Cheney could have taught him how to do it.

Wait, I thought it was the democrats who were praying for more terror attacks?

Instead, he and Bush, the two public figures most associated with September 11, will watch from the sidelines as America turns the page.

...aaaaand good riddance.

That is the dumbest shiat that I have ever read. Think tank or drunk tank? You be the judge.

Soooooooo.....Rudy should have been praying for an attack against America?

Exactly how catastrophic an attack should he have been hoping for? Thousands dead OK, or would he need something along the lines of a spectacular "tens of thousands dead, millions injured, tens of thousands of square miles of land left uninhabitable" kind of tragedy?

How much blood would have kept Rudy from failing?

And to think, somewhere RIGHT NOW, someone is reading this and agreeing with it whole heartedly.

You know, he should have chosen The Clash's "Rudy Can't Fail" as his campaign theme song. Would have been the shiat.

It wasn't Bush. It was my anti-terrorist-attack magic rock that I bought on 9/12/01. It's worked so far.

What's not being said is that Giuliani's role regarding the attack on the Twin Towers was really trivial.

The disaster response plans that were executed during the crisis were laid out long before Giuliani ever became mayor. Much like a well-oiled machine, the members of the NYFD and NYPD knew how to respond. On the ground commanders drove the immediate response, as it should be.

If anything, Giuliani was detrimental for the effort by failing to help modernize the communication systems utilized by emergency response, in addition to other crisis-related items he vetoed. There were a host of accusations regarding politics and foot dragging by his administration.

Were Giuliani to become president, I would see organizations like FEMA and the ACOE continuing to stew in politics, mismanagement and fiscal waste. His record shows no reason to think otherwise.

These terrorist you speak of, where are they ?

Israel has a MUCH smaller border to deal with and they can't stop terrorist.

We have a HUGE BORDER FULL OF HOLES and we are "stopping terrorist" ? I think not. Save your stand up routine for some other time.

Almost without exception EVERY front page terror plot we "stopped" turned out to be some lone whack jobs with a can of gasoline and a low IQ.

Google it.

Class dismissed.

You have to admit, those lone whackjobs met their match in President Bush.

Joshua Micah Marshall is Jewish. Like all neocons he would like another terror attack on gentiles in America so we would get going and bomb those countries in the middle east that pose a threat to Jews. I can't make the truth any plainer.

Aarontology [TotalFark] 2008-01-31 09:23:02 PM
So it doesn't matter that the Democrats have tried to end torture, and halt domestic spying? Guess those programs are not necessary to stop terrorism.

Cool.

These people are more dangerous and more crazy than a terrorist with a warehouse of c4. They won't just destroy a building or 2. They're destroy an entire countries economy and way of life.

That's what has happened people. You've allowed radicals to destroy your country from the inside.

quatchi 2008-01-31 10:38:41 PM
Perhaps Giuliani should blame Bush for his campaign's demise. If Bush had not been so successful in preventing another domestic terrorist attack

Bwa hah hah hah hah hah! Funny funny stuff!

Wot's that? You were being serious?! WTF?!

There are four school of thought on 9/11.
1. The official story is what happened. (Not even Bush believes this)
2. The official story plus massive incompetance on all levels. (semi-plausible)
3. LIHOP ie BushCo Let It Happen On Purpose.
4. MIHOP ie BushCo Made It Happen On Purpose.

Put Quatchi down as believing in number three. Dumbya sat on his hands, tied the hands of folks who shoulda/woulda/coulda maybe stopped this, refused to meet with anti-terrorist principles despite being practically begged to until after 9/11, was a member of PNAC a group who previously stated they were waiting for "a Pearl Harbour type incident".

The only thing Bush has been "successful" at is being a miserable failure.

Giuliani's relevance to voters would be painfully obvious, and his deviations from party orthodoxy less compelling.

Not so much "compelling" as "deeply disquieting", really.

Neo-con think tank writer says perhaps Bush is to blame for Rudy losing primary..."If Bush had not been so successful in preventing another domestic terrorist attack, Giuliani's relevance to voters would be painfully obvious"

Right....... because nobody standing on a pile of rubble with a megaphone looks quite as heroic as Guilani.

Aaron Haynes 2008-01-31 11:25:33 PM
1. Wishing there had been a terrorist attack in order to get the politician of your choice elected completely destroys your moral authority forever.

2. Guiliani failed to prevent a terrorist attack, and his relevance is a masterstroke of doublethink campaign logic.

Aughsum 2008-01-31 11:54:08 PM
oh wow... that's turrible.

/hillarious though.

Argh2 2008-02-01 12:11:55 AM
If there had been another attack, Bush & Friends would have said it proved the threat was out there, and they needed more power.

No attack, they claim all the credit, and say they need more power.

You have to admit, pretty flawless PR spin either way.

Given their record on everything else they've tried, though, I suspect the truth is that some career civil servants - the kind they hate - have averted a few plots, but that no 911-class attempt has been made.

IrishSamurai9 2008-02-01 12:13:52 AM
Bush is to blame for everything.

9/11? Check.
Hurricane Katrina? Check.
Subprime Mess? Check.

Genital herpes? Nope. Blame your mom's occupation.

Because they're not part of the theatre that is your media dialog. They're not brown, one of them leads back to government bio-weapons labs. They're just not quality items to scare the idiots with.

Bush is successful at preventing terrorism?

Argh2 2008-02-01 01:25:43 AM
Bush may not actually cause these problems, but there's a reason we elect 1 person to have full access and authority to all the resources this country can muster, and it's not so that they can just shrug, make a dumb face, and repeat "no one could have predicted it...". Especially since we pay experts who in fact do predict things like 911, Katrina, and the subprime meltdown.
