Since he's Bush on steroids, perhaps he should be labeled as "America's worst nightmare"?

Tatsuma [TotalFark] 2008-01-31 04:02:44 PM
Definitely

John McCain as Republican presidential nominee called "Democrats' worst nightmare"...and conservatives.

I hate this man. I hate his foreign policy. I hate his domestic policy. But I will get piss-drunk and pull the lever for him if it comes down to Hillary-McCain in November.

/Let's hope it doesn't come to that

Wait, I thought Hillary as a presidential nominee was their worst nightmare?

Fark Lord of the Sith 2008-01-31 04:04:49 PM
FTFA: "Clinton has an impressive machine behind her, which would be able to fight McCain more effectively. She would also play her experience card against him. Obama is weaker on both these fronts - but Clinton is a more divisive figure."

Is the entire world now suffering a collective delution about Hillary's lack of experience? McCain's been in the military or elected office longer than Hill's been married to Bubba.

You can have 2nd place, nubian. Hillary is 1st. Luckily, if the first problem is solved, the second will be likely to weaken.

Fark Lord of the Sith 2008-01-31 04:06:11 PM
Uh, delusion, I mean.

He doesn't know anything about the economy - but it's ok, he knows Jack Kemp!
He doesn't know anything about civil rights - but it's ok, he knows Jack Kemp!
He doesn't know how to lead - but it's ok, he knows Jack Kemp!
He doesn't know how to end a war - but it's ok, he knows Jack Kemp!

Is there any problem that channeling Jack Kemp can't solve?

EwoksSuck 2008-01-31 04:07:53 PM
I'm not buying it. Especially if Obama manages to get the nomination. There are plenty of ways to go after McCain and his base is not energized around him the way the democratic base is energized. It will not be very hard to show that McCain will represent more of the same in terms of economic or foreign policy. The American people are tired of Bush and his policies. McCain is out of touch. He is the new Bob Dole and not the new Ronald Reagan.

twilson2 2008-01-31 04:08:01 PM
McCain has a major weak spot with his own republicans.

He was for amnesty for illegals.

McCain is laughable. If Obama takes the Democratic nomination, any and all Republicans will be crushed to a bloody pulp.

Fark Lord of Sith: Someone has to mow the lawn.

Sometimes, after a partiular rough day, I come home, pour me a double vodka martini, go out on the deck and talk to Jesus.

"Jesus, why do we all have to work so hard?"

"You work hard because you and everyone wishes to live in comfort. You work hard to sustain your family and give them the best.'

"But isn't that crass materialism? Isn't money the root of all evil?"

"Money in itself is not evil. It is the love of money that is evil. Money is what you use to sustain your family, giving them only the best."

"But is there a purpose? Can you tell me why?"

"!Si, Seno~r, and I will tell you, but only after I finish mowing your lawn!"

Clonod 2008-01-31 04:14:28 PM
Golly I hope it's him vs. Obama.

Headso 2008-01-31 04:14:38 PM
McCain is tolerable to non-republicans, you can't say the same thing about any of the other candidates, maybe Romney, but I think that is pushing it...

That is why the dems are afraid of him getting the nod...

twilson2 2008-01-31 04:15:21 PM
Conservatives Buchanan and Scarborough both said the country is farked if McCain becomes president (Said on MSNBC a couple nights ago. Hartmann has been playing the clip on his show)

"Do you want four more years of the Bush Administration?" If the Republicans can come up with a way to answer that question that doesn't result in a belly laugh then they have a shot. If not, then they are in for some trouble.

You are assuming he is going to get all of the Hillary voters. The Boomers aren't going to give up their control of the country that easily.

This.

Seems to me that's the only argument the Democrats need to deep-six McCain. That, and the fact that he'll be 72 by the time January 09 rolled around. And that "Bomb, bomb Iran" moment.

MisterRPG 2008-01-31 04:23:12 PM
How is a man who couldn't beat Bush a Democrat's worst nightmare? Look out, conservatives! We're running Kerry again! Ooga booga!

Well, at least he isn't using racial slurs this time.

fn129 2008-01-31 04:24:36 PM
I see a McCain nomination as a good thing. Hopefully the dems will see his popularity amongst independents and nominate Obama. With Hilary v McCain, most people will stick with the lesser evil. McCain is more wishy-washy than anything, and I don't see him being as dangerous as Bushco. I don't want to have to vote McCain, but I really don't like Hilary. McCain is so old he may not seek a second term (if he sucks, neither will his veep)... Obama (if he doesnt get the 08 nom) will run again... amd Hilary fresh off of a humiliating defeat in 08 will go back to her cave where she will rest for 500 years before reemergng to wreak havok on future generations. See? Silver lining to every cloud.

2OBAMA12?

/Not a clever as "O8AMA!"

canyoneer 2008-01-31 04:28:38 PM
Obama would walk into the White House and be stunned by the volume of work and extremely steep learning curve staring him in the face. He knows nothing about foreign affairs or military matters, and hasn't the slightest idea how to manage a gigantic, incredibly complex organization like the United States Federal Government, with all its overlapping and Byzantine bureacracies and agencies and bureaus and offices and departments and layered security apparatuses, much less our vast global empire.

McCain, on the other hand, can walk into the Oval office and be ready within hours to manage just about any international crisis or military operation or diplomatic row.

Voters know this instinctually. That's why its unlikely that Obama will win the nomination, and unlikely that either Democrat will defeat McCain, when it comes down to pulling that lever in the voting booth.

McCain won't pick Huckabee as his Veep candidate. He'll pick someone less-known and low key but with impeccable conservative credentials and quite a bit younger than himself.

Otherwise, I think the article is right and the Democrats are going to face a formidable foe in John McCain. The fact that the real extremeist conservatives dislike him is actually an asset to him with blue dog Democrats and independents. He'll vacuum up the oldster vote, too, and that's the most prolific and reliable voting demographic.

He also has a wicked sense of humor, a trait conspicuous by its absence in this year's field. IOW, McCain actually says clever things once in a while. Having a Prexy who's not a focus-group-tested robot might be refreshing for a change.

But look, my friends. Look. Here's the straight talk. I led for patriotism, not profit. I led the largest squadron in the Navy. Look.

heavymetal [TotalFark] 2008-01-31 04:29:53 PM
McCain is the most electable in my opinion of the Republican candidates. That is why it suprises me how hard the conservative pundits like Rush Limbaugh are bashing him and hard.

On super Tuesday I will vote for Obama. I like his message better than Hillary's. I also don't think Hillary can win the general election. The Republican propaganda has had 16 years to get dirt on her and create doubt, whether justified or not, which has caused just enough doubt in the "swing" voters to where they likely will not vote for her.

That is also why I feel the Republicans badly want Hillary to get the nomination. If Obama gets it, they will hav eto starty from scratch.

NoobieDoobieDo 2008-01-31 04:30:15 PM
I can't stand Obama. I've been harping on the guy for months. He doesn't have any experience and thinks he is smarter than he really is. He's a terrible choice for president. If it's McCain vs Obama I'm voting for Obama.

McManus_brothers [TotalFark] 2008-01-31 04:30:32 PM

As opposed to Dubya? And have you not heard of advisors?

Shaggy_C 2008-01-31 04:31:54 PM
canyoneer: McCain, on the other hand, can walk into the Oval office and be ready within hours to manage just about any international crisis or military operation or diplomatic row.

He'll call Jack Kemp and summon zombie Reagan. We all heard the debate and know why he's so great. We get it.

Headso 2008-01-31 04:32:34 PM
canyoneer: Voters know this instinctually.

If that were the case then McCain would have bested Dubya in the 2000 primary.

canyoneer 2008-01-31 04:34:21 PM
McManus_brothers

Yeah, but Bush came with a lot of heavy-hitting experienced advisors built-in, so to speak. Whether that level of trust was justified or not, people were comfortable with Dubya because of his pedigree. Obama has no pedigree. Who's he going to have advise him, Sandy Berger? Bill Clinton? If people want that, they'll just vote for Hillary.

Shaggy_C 2008-01-31 04:34:28 PM
McManus_brothers: But look, my friends. Look. Here's the straight talk. I led for patriotism, not profit. I led the largest squadron in the Navy. Look.

If his time in the navy is supposed to show his great leadership skills, are we supposed to just ignore him getting captured? He obviously failed pretty badly...

Are you people out of your minds? You think that Republicans are going to sit out this election because they don't like McCain? Are you people farking NEW??

Any rank and file republican is going to drive over their own freaking Grandmothers to vote against the broad or the liberal black guy. In fact, they see Hilary and Bubba again, and they will crawl over crushed glass to vote against her.

I cannot believe that The Democrats are going to Fark this up, but they are finding a way.

Shaggy_C

You're a big-time partisan. I'm not. I'm just trying to analyze the factors going into this election and read the tea leaves - because I find it interesting. As you probably already know, I don't think any major policies will change much no matter who's elected. Our system has its own ponderous intertia and logic that individuals and even movements have a very hard time overcoming. If you're here to propagandize against McCain, have at it, but I won't argue with you.
