Gee golly I can't wait for those guys to get back together for a tour. What have they been up to anyway?

No wonder that was their last public appearance. Without a decent haircut, a shaving and proper clothes, these hippies had no chance to succeed.

/and btw, guitar groups are on the way out
//what would you need to reunite the beatles? A gun and two bullets

pipco 2008-01-30 07:16:59 AM
lip-sync? That audio don't sound like it was recorded outside. Or maybe the recording was fixed-up in the studio? Some spots of Lennon's guit-solos don't match the video.
Somebody must know about this. The Beatles have been very well documented & analyzed.

You are entitled to your opinion, as incredibly ludicrous as I find it to be.

Eh, they were okay, but nothing compared to these guys:

I see your 1969 Beatles rooftop video and raise you the Jefferson Airplane's NYC rooftop performance in 1968...

pipco: lip-sync? That audio don't sound like it was recorded outside.

My guess is because the audio comes from a direct feed rather than some schmo on the street with a recorder.

Anyone know who that guy was on the electric piano?

I am the only one who got that. And they say that "nothing on Fark is obscure." Feh.

Absolutely NOT lip-synced. But the original Let It Be movie (for which this was filmed) eventually had many problems with editing and synchronization. Not the Beatles' fault.

...although they DID record another version in the studio the day before this. But there's NO account of the two being blended into one.

I'll call with Improv Everywhere's NYC rooftop show as U2.

I love this performance so much. Also makes me really sad. Nice that they could quit bickering for a half hour and make it about the music one more time.

Oh, and I agree with Lennon, Paul: The sound you make is Muzak to my ears. In an alternate world where there is justice, you got shot instead.

Please. Neither John's nor Paul's solo career was one-tenth as interesting as the Beatles. They needed each other.

I still love you, Beatles. Oh, yes, I do.

I think John's was pretty interesting. "Woman" and "#9 Dream" kill me every time.

Paul isn't terrible. He's had some good stuff, particularly his most recent albums. And John and Paul made up before John's death, there was a lot of venom going around when "How Do You Sleep?" was released.

Oh, and for solo Beatles, my pick for a great video is Ringo Starr's "Only You," with Harry Nilsson on background vocals and Lennon on guitar.

Check out Nilsson if you're a Beatles fan, you owe it to yourself.

You can tell it's not lip synced when you watch the "Don't Let Me Down" video from this same concert. John forgets the lyrics in the beginning of the second or third verse, so he just goes "bluh bluh bluh buh buh buh buh buh, bluh buh buh buh, you know she does..."
and then gives a smile to the camera

henryhill 2008-01-30 03:02:33 PM
Yeah, but U2 did the roof concert first!

One of these years, legal and personal entanglements will get squared away and "Let It Be" will get put out on DVD. Hopefully, in my lifetime.

Re: Billy Preston
Here's his most awesome performance of "That's The Way God Planned It" from the Concert for Bangladesh. Sadly, he died in 2006.

CatJumpJohn: I think John's was pretty interesting. "Woman" and "#9 Dream" kill me every time.

I like both John and Paul solo, but they both wallow a bit too much in the extremes of their personalities. John can be pretentious and smug, and Paul can be jejune and corny. The Beatles are seldom any of those things because John and Paul kept each other in check.

Check out Nilsson if you're a Beatles fan, you owe it to yourself.

I don't know why, but I just can't get into Harry Nilsson. He's not bad, but somehow he just doesn't excite me.

The more I listen to Neil Finn's work over the years, the more I'm drawn to the conclusion that he in many ways displays the best aspects of both Lennon and McCartney in his songwriting. He has the pop sensibilities and knack for a good hook of McCartney without the cloying triteness, and the intelligence of Lennon without the over-indulgent self-absorption.

Have you listened to Son of Schmilsson, Nilsson Sings Newman, or The Point?

He takes some time, but it's worth taking the time, believe me.
