Please tell me that 100% of the awesomeness was from Iron Maiden. I'm not ready to live in a world where anyone thought Accept was any good.

/Balls to the wall, indeed.

This must be a sign. I had a conversation with my GF the other day about Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and some of the other stuff I lived on as a teen. She had no idea who they are and what they sang, even after my accapella version of Flight of Icarus. Hrumph.....kids. Now, a fark thread specifically about them.

Fine, Gods of Metal, I shall go and buy Piece of Mind this week and worship at the alter of Eddie.

Bruce's voice, while it's pretty high pitched, in no way could ever match that of the dude from Stryper.

Not saying they were better, just that they did a fantastic job with it.

That's a shame. I recently turned my fiancé (seven years my senior) on to both Maiden and Priest. I felt it was necessary that he know about such things.

Umm. No. From their last album:

Spiral path leads through the maze
Down into the fiery underworld below
Fire breathing lead the way
Lucifer was just an angel led astray

Free your soul and let it fly
Give your life, to the Lord of Light
Keep your secrets and rain on me
All I see are mysteries

For some people, Barney or The Wiggles videos are the next best thing to a babysitter. For my kids (ages 5 1/2 and 15 months) it has been Iron Maiden (with some Zep and Rush thrown in occasionally)and I have been very grateful for it. But as spectacular as the Maiden DVDs I have are (Visions of the Beast, Rock in Rio, Death on the Road, The Early Days), after watching them all 100 times each, even they can get a bit grating on the nerves. So I skimmed through Netflix and found Raising Hell (the last tour with Bruce before he left) and figured yay, something new and it's gotta be full of win! Boy was I wrong. Not only is the audio quality craptastic, for most of it the band just sounds.....off. Sort of like a mediocre tribute band. I wish I could blame it on the absence of Adrian, but even Steve's intro to the Clairvoyant sounds bad. Then in-between songs, you get to enjoy the cheesiest magic show you'll ever see. For how much of a perfectionist Steve is, I can't believe he let this turd get released. Glad I only rented it.

/can't watch Youtube at work :(
//saw them in Scranton on the Brave New World Tour
///can't wait until I can take my kids to Maiden concert

Maiden are truly awesome - will be seeing them this tour in Sweden - though I think they could benefit from unravelling their lengthy musical penises and showing us how hard they can rock in obscure time signatures on the next album.

I've probably seen Maiden 15 times over the years, and they've always delivered - hell they are in their late 40's(at least)and they'll kick the crap out of most any band out there from a get-your-moneys-worth perspective. They still have energy, a tremendous stage show, and from a playing standpoint they are more on their game now than they have ever been. I'm with amindtat on two counts - Raising Hell was a HUGE disappointment for all the reasons given, and I have a son who will be 6 in April that is already asking me to show him Iron Maiden tunes on his half-scale guitar... He's partial to the Brave New World and Powerslave CDs, and his perfect world would be an Iron Maiden soundtrack to a Power Rangers video game. I even caught my wife singing along in the car last week - she's coming around to our point of view...
/ anyone else out there want to play in an Iron Maiden tribute band?

Jak Damage: They still have energy, a tremendous stage show, and from a playing standpoint they are more on their game now than they have ever been.

I feel I must disagree with you there, sir. While it's true Adrian's just kept on evolving as a guitarist and is on top of his game, Dave got stuck in a technical and tonal rut since No Prayer for the Dying; his solos these days rarely excite. He seems at times to have lost the "spark". My favourite recent solos of his since the "reunion" are Brave New World, and Rainmaker (my girlfriend is partial to Benjamin Breeg).

Adrian's solos never fail to send a shiver down my spine, in fact I can find enough in them to have written an entire dissertation (10,000 words) on them!

/won't get started on Janick's solos, but his songwriting is very good.
//They do need to get out of the E C G D chrod progression thing, too.

I never got Maiden. No real problem with them, 1000x better than the hair metal of the mid-late 80s, but that whole high, opera-ish voice was kinda the ghey compared to a voice like Lemmy from MH. if you're going to sing thrashy metal, you need that gravelly pised off voice.

Hey now, just because we don't tease you for your Barry Manilow collection, leave us Accept fans alone.. ;-)

seriously, I have been a fan of Accept since 1985, and still love their music, of course Queen still takes the number 1 spot, but if you got a chance to listen to the Breaker CD Accept can be really cool. I had the fortune to be in Osaka for their show that got recorded for their video and Cd "Staying a Life"

Well Iron Maiden is a lot more melodic and a lot less influenced by punk than Motorhead. while, Maiden took a lot a lot of the energy punk had, Steve Harris wasn't really into it and preferred the so called dinosaur bands. Thus when the more punk oriented Paul Di'Anno got kicked out, he went for a more melodic vocalist closer to say Jon Anderson, than to Johnny Rotten.
