Looks like all 15 of those "YAY NO GRAMMIES" headlines need to stfu sometimes.

This whole thing is getting old.

The host introduces a B-list actor who then introduces a washed up singer who performs an irritating song. Where do we need writers for that?

The only way I would watch that,
would be if Brittany Spears and Amy Winehouse did a duet of The Dead Kennedys "Too Drunk To F*ck".

An award for "best boxed set"?

Wow, they aren't even trying to pretend that it's nothing more than a marketing event when they give out an award for material that wasn't good enough to win in the past, but has been repackaged, and is now the most expensive item in the store.

The only thing that surprises me about that crap fest, is that it's not held closer the Christmas.

The WGA would like to have a word with you.

There was a time when awards shows may have been relevant. Back then actors and musicians had a certain mystique about them, nobody knew anything about their private lives and getting candid glimpses of them had a certain appeal. Now with various media outlets dedicated to reporting on a celebrities every move the mystique has gone.

thank god for that handy map in the article. i almost that that the grammys were going to be held in los angeles, delaware.

in other news, can anyone tell me why the grammys are important and why canceling them for a year would be catastrophic? a reason that doesnt boil down to "theyre nice" would be appreciated.

Polar Bear Cub:
Why is this "OK?" A strike is a strike. If they really wanted to get their point across they should have told the Grammys screw themselves ...

I agree. Don't set aside your strike just for some crappy awards show. If you want to make a statement you have to put your foot down and say no.

If I can put my tinfoil hat for a second, I think the union is getting some money from the big record labels to make sure the Grammys go on.

These strikers really aren't doing it right.

Worst. Strike. Ever.

Yup. If they're so serious about the strike then nothing should stop them from striking. To suspend it for an awards show that, seriously now, NOBODY is going to watch, let alone care about, just undermines the entire thing.

With that said, fark'm, the strike hasn't affected my world at all.
And just what DO they need to write for an awards show? Are the heads they hire to host that stupid that they can't speak without someone else providing the words?

wolfzr2 2008-01-29 09:02:24 AM
oh fark that. fark the award shows, BRING BACK THE OFFICE NOW!

Agreed. Seriously, scabbing themselves for an award show? Come on, who really watches those things? Those award shows need to go.

The writers are using the award shows as a bargaining chip and it's working. The producers walked away from the bargaining table, and now they've been forced back because of this.

A thirty-second spot on the Grammys runs over half-a-million dollars, and at 20 million viewers it has about half the domestic audience of the Oscars. NBC ended up refunding a bunch of money to advertisers because the viewership of the Golden Globes dropped from its normal 20 million to less than 6.

No, I think the WGA knows exactly what it's doing here.

Writers' strike?

That would be the first time in months.

I still support the writers, but not enough to join them on the picket lines with some of my friends.

I never watch award shows... I just wait for the winners to be reprinted and posted on FARK; Maybe look at YouTube for anything lul worthery.

I am bummed lost is only 8 episodes and that there are no more the Office or anything. But common these people are getting screwed on DVD and internet sales.

Thank God. I was afraid Bruce Villanch would starve.

deevo 2008-01-29 04:31:55 PM
Bill Maher said that WGA leadership had been acting a lot like George W. Bush leading the country to war, in terms of not knowing what they're doing or what reasons they're claiming. I have a real hard time supporting the writers when they do this shiat, and I'm perfectly fine being entertained by the Internet these days.

Cosmosis 2008-01-29 06:33:25 PM
What. The. Hell.

I have to give up Heroes(and, potentially, Dexter)....but they'll write that crap?

I was with the writers.

They can go DIAF anytime, now, though.

There's a writers strike?

OMGlookatthat_HUGE_P_HOLE 2008-01-29 10:32:18 PM
Doesn't matter, it's still going to be full of lip-syncing. Talented acts capable of actually playing an instrument will be pushed aside from the show. Machine Head is up for metal, but instead of having them play, we get to hear some rap-tard say his name and the year 15 times in his act.
