Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener [TotalFark] 2008-01-27 06:02:31 PM
If it had a return address, that fish could have returned it to the right plaice.

Those crazy japanese and their balloon schemes. They just can't let that idea go!

I've used the Flatfish express for years, and I can only commend them on their reliability and quality of service.

Japanese Animals doing something amazing over a long period of time and then getting killed trifecta in play?!?

In elementary school we did this as a class activity. Wrote a letter, tied it to a helium balloon, hoped for friends/family to find it. Never heard about mine.

Came here for the comments about how she contributed to environmental pollution and "this is why I don't eat fish!" commentary. Leaving disappointed but liking the interesting comments made so far.

/takes her hot-dog and slinks home... guess this isn't the flame-worthy topic I was hoping for.

I'm surprised he recovered the note but not the panties.

rogue49 2008-01-27 07:03:27 PM
Interesting how it actually stayed relatively close.
I always wondered how long it takes for the balloons to fade.

And admirable how the fish gave up its life to complete the experiment.

*perks up* How many would you say? Would you say that one is too many? Now try saying it with conviction and lots of exclamation points! :) ... Oh, and it's "sea-animals."

/How did that correction make you feel?
// And remember, this is for posterity so be honest. How do you feel?

I'm from the north suburbs of Chicago. When I was in 1st grade I remember my brother (2 yrs older) actually received a letter from a guy in New Hampshire about 2 months after releasing the balloon.

/the fish story is better

Kat [TotalFark] 2008-01-27 07:19:31 PM
Felidstar, I hope they killed at least eleventeen seanimals.

sounds like the plot of some sort of anime.

Maybe Natsumi's magic fish delivery service?

inkling79 2008-01-27 07:43:52 PM
So, the letter was returned?

If you pick up this letter, please write to me," the letter reads, listing the school's address.

That always bugs me about stories like these. It seems like every time someone puts a message in a bottle, or tied to a balloon, or whatever, the person that finds completely ignores the instructions and instead sends the message back!

WTF?!

I like the appropriate use of a bank fisherman in a story about catching a fish 3,300 feed beneath the Pacific.

Maybe next time, Mr. AP Editor, you could find a picture of a commercial fishing trawler towing a 30-mile gill net.
