Apps ruined Facebook. Now they're trying to spread that FAIL across the internet?

Crappy content on the web? Wow, what will they think of next. They may have to move some of the godsawful Flash to make room though. Same net different shiat.

yeah, kind of like the old quote, "nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded..."

While I don't love the apps, if you don't like them, don't use them. I think they can be amusing at times. Hell, what's the point of facebook really besides to waste time and screw with people.

Aurric 2008-01-27 02:48:31 PM

Arrrrg, aps! The only reason I joined facebook was I was promised it was nothing like myspace, that it was simple, classic. Not so much any more.

catbook? is that anything like a cathouse?

secularsage 2008-01-27 02:51:33 PM
The article says this is clever... I think it's inevitable. Facebook has run its course on what it can do on its own bloated site.

I'll never understand why these tech companies can't just make a really good product and quit "improving" on it so they can do something else. The improvements almost ALWAYS ruin the app.

Facebook was a lot better before they added all this crap. When it was (legitimately) a site for meeting peers at your college and in your area of research to make connections.

You can still do that now, but you have to shuffle through the riffraff first.

How can pretending you have friends be sad?

jjorsett 2008-01-27 02:59:04 PM
Why is this a concern? Major sites probably won't be sticking this stuff on their pages, so unless you visit lots of sites where people memorialize their dead hamsters or boast of their pachinko prowess, you're not going to be affected.

This.

This is the point where facebook became worse than Myspace. At least the latter keeps its fail all in 1 nice little box I can neatly avoid.

I still use Facebook daily at home and at school. It's a lot easier to keep in touch with people you don't normally see and it makes planning events easier.

We tried to hold a small gathering one night and couldn't really manage calling everyone we invited with details if the plan changed. It takes quite a while to call 15 people just to tell them that the time has changed. Facebook has the ability to start threads with multiple people, so if someone posts, everyone is alerted. Made the next gathering a lot easier to plan.

I hate the apps though, I have 2-3 for various reasons, I delete people who send me a bunch of invites to a lot of apps, and I shrink them on other peoples pages so I still see the normal information.

I'm sort of glad I'm too old to be a part of this whole facebook/myspace thing. The college students who work with me seem to spend practically every spare minute on their facebook or myspace pages, and go through a kind of withdrawal when they can't access them. I like my friends and all, but I don't really need to have a minute-to-minute update on what's going on in their lives.

kellynoel [TotalFark] 2008-01-27 03:06:09 PM
I have a facebook account.

Apparently I am extremely stupid because I have no idea wtf tfa is saying.

I gather the gist is that facebook has become a virtual std? You wanted to see the site but didn't expect the gift that keeps on giving.

I hope somebody is busy writing valtrex.exe.

HumbleGenius 2008-01-27 03:07:45 PM
If this encourages more of my friends to play Scrabulous with me, then I'm all for it. Sure, there's a lot of crappy applications but it's easy to ignore them by adjusting your filters.

you call three people and have them each call 2-3 people. or you send them a text message, or an email - then maybe call really quick as outlined above to notify them that plans have changed, check email for details.

I like Facebook for talking to old friends of mine, and some of the groups are pretty cool, but the Apps, quizzes, arrrrgghhhh....

The apps I have are the sports ones, bumper stickers, de-motivators, and superlatives. That's IT.
