Just like M rated video games. This should end well.

"Fight your way through 6 different exciting locations in hopes of being granted parole," the site says. "Escape prison riots in The Yard, slip glass into a mob boss' lasagna in the Cafeteria, steal painkillers from the nurse's desk in the Infirmary, avoid being cornered by the Aryans in the Shower Room, fight off Latin Kings in Gang War, and try not to smoke your entire stash in The Hole."

That's all pretty much straight out of OZ and American History X.

This is just wrong on so many levels.

I hope this kid gets arrested for possession, then he'll see how asinine our drug laws are.

Grand Theft Auto's controversial attention whoring style used to create a board game. That's an amazing imagination and talent that kid has there.

Oh wait, that's just plain old, unoriginal whoring for $$$$$$$$$. I'm sure his business model started out looking at how much money Rockstar makes and ended up him cracking his head on the coffee table after snorting too much blow off his hooker's ass.

Ha. This kid hasn't a clue, but don't let that stop him!!! Thing is, his mom isn't one of the worst politicians (that's the best compliment one can give in our current political climate), but he's also been titty fed on a sort of "all-actions-have-immediate-consequences" reality that has nothing to do with, ya know, "real" reality.

No one thinks "aw shiat, I could go to jail for this, or get the death sentence" when committing a crime. It's been proven time and again that incarceration rather than rehabilitation is not effective. But, rehab is only for those who have the means, like the children of Senators, CEO's or Pastors. You know, kids who do mild drugs like Coke and E, not that crack shiat.

Sorry, rambling...anyways, the kids of the wealthy and powerful will never know the hells of prison, no matter how much they fark up. Even if they committed mass slaughter they'd still be protected from "Gen Pop" because of their familial connections. Really makes you think about what Justice means, no?

The game pieces are nicely sculpted.

The board looks horrible. By far the sloppiest, ugliest looking game board I've ever seen. It doesn't have any sort of loosely drawn aesthetic, it just looks like it was sketched and coloured in ten minutes by a ten year old who didn't want to do it at all, and didn't care how it looked.

berylman 2008-01-27 08:51:27 AM
Asinine tag would have been much more appropriate. The American prison industry is so farked up, making jokes at the prisoner's expense is irreproachable. Would be nice if the creator of this game had more of an insider's perspective on the truth of prisons.

Yeah, cause that's the point. Really recreating life on the inside. Just like Monopoly is designed to recreate life as Donald Trump.

Am I the only one left with a sense of humor? It's a joke. One in not-very-good-taste, but a joke. Takes every single stereotype you can think of and packs it into one box. Don't think that was intentional?

Dad: Gary Sebelius (?), Federal Judge

I sincerely hope that this kid goes to jail. It's real fun making fun of the horror of jail - men getting raped and murdered - while they are locked up like animals.

And the fact that it is backed by the judge and governor parents?! That stuff is not supposed to be happening in jail, is it. So they are bascially backing a game that glorifies people committing heinous crimes. They should be dis-barred, impeached, and sent to jail.

voyvf 2008-01-27 09:53:21 AM
I find this story incredibly heartbreaking. I mean, this could have been made into a decent if not bad ass video game, but no, he had to be a moran and make a board game instead.

He deserves to be hanged by the balls until death, or until sanity makes a debut in American politics, whichever comes first.

The son of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is peddling a board game titled "Don't Drop the Soap," a prison-themed game he created as part of a class project at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Sebelius spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran said both parents "are very proud of their son John's creativity and talent."

wait...WHAT?

phillydrifter: This kid is such a spoiled f*cking brat I hope someone beats the ever living snot out of him for creating a game that pretty much mocks the entire american prison system.

I have to respectfully disagree phillydrifter.

The "entire american prison system" is very much worthy of being mocked. It is a farce. A joke. A sham. A disgrace. It is simply a place to shelve criminals (including non-violent drug offenders who shouldn't be there in the first place) for a time without any attempt to truly rehabilitate them.

The system is ineffective, unsafe, fails to rehabilitate (some cases, making no attempt to do so) and is completely corrupted by independent corporate interests (the prison system is big business to construction, security, food services, utility, etc... companies).

While I do believe there is a need for a prison system, especially for violent, dangerous or habitual criminals, what we have now is an utter sham.

Don't forget about big business. Food services, construction, security, utilities, clothing, sanitation. All have a vested financial interest in the prison system.

Why would such corporate entities want a reduction in crime? It would be bad for business.

Since violent crime has, overall, decreased steadily in the United States, the status quo needs to be maintained. How is this done? Nonviolent drug offenders. Then you have a literal bottomless pit of "criminals" you can incarcerate. This is very good for the profit margin.

What makes this significant to some is that Kathleen Sebelius is scheduled to givew the democratic response to the state of the union address. She was visited by Kerry in '04 when he was searching for a VP to run with. I could see how she could be picked by the Obama campaign to be a VP to attract those how supported Hillary because they wanted to see a woman in the White House

I imagine he was trying to make it look like it had been scrawled on the floor by inmates.

The only people who are going to buy this are the same people who bought Ghettopoly and The War on Terror just to say they have it. Controversy doesn't sell boardgames. I bet he won't recoup his costs on it, or if he does, he won't make much money. He'll get paid in publicity, though, at least for a little while.

The game is silly, but his website is sillier.

I'll give him a little slack because he's only 23, but someone needs to tell him that his artwork is bleh. And he should lose the section reserved for snapshots of celebrities wearing his shirts, at least until he has some to post.

Wow. That's like, admirable... and stuff. Not like millions of other business owners who have a wealthy family and connections to get it written about in a newspaper and don't put their life savings and kids' college tuition on the line...
