There seems to be a abundance of ignorance about 'projecting' a candidate's victory.

This is one such example. Yeesh.

2wolves 2008-01-26 07:17:30 PM
But did Mr. Edwards come in second?

BudTheSpud 2008-01-26 07:17:58 PM
CNN is projecting based on the exit polls.

funmonger 2008-01-26 07:18:19 PM
Economy remained top concern; half of electorate was black; frowned upon shenanigans.

Echoic 2008-01-26 07:18:19 PM
Woot!

Go Obama. And now that he's won, go Edwards.

PlasticMoby 2008-01-26 07:18:31 PM
can we please just get rid of the bullshiat system of calling elections before the results are actually in?

Have I mentioned how much fun it is to watch Hillary lose? It's just so refreshing, after the way she acts like she's the Chosen One.

moriarty23 2008-01-26 07:18:44 PM
The Clintons tried to turn Obama into the 'black' candidate, I think it actually bumped him!

QUICKSlLVER [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-01-26 07:18:46 PM
If the exit polls hold up:

Obama ~55%
Clinton ~ 27%
Edwards ~ 18%

2wolves: But did Mr. Edwards come in second?

Too close to call at this point.

first numbers I saw were
Obama 70%
Clinton 12%
Edwards 8%

I_Approve_Of_This_Message 2008-01-26 07:19:01 PM
Reports are that Hillary's already out of the state, so I guess her people were looking at similar data.

C'mon Edwards, time to drop and endorse Obama!

Echoic 2008-01-26 07:19:10 PM
Hillary is going to spin this into being a vote from a black state.

But as a CNN talking head pointed out, she's making herself a candidate that women should vote for and more women voted than blacks, and she beat Obama among women by only around 10%.

Shaggy_C 2008-01-26 07:19:18 PM
Bah, I submitted this with a 'Hussein' reference...sigh. I guess I'll just have to settle to race-baiting pulling a Hillary Clinton.

I guess the margin between obama and clinton probably rightly establishes a trend; the margin between clinton and edwards could plausibly go either way. Wouldn't it be delightful to see edwards take second?

Exactly. I can't see how she spins that.

BudTheSpud 2008-01-26 07:20:33 PM
If Edwards would endorse Obama and keep the anti-Hillary vote united, then Hillary would really be scared. Until then though, Edwards is just propping Hillary up come Super Tuesday.

A huge win for Obama nonetheless. I just hope this sends a message to Edwards.

NubianzWithAttitude 2008-01-26 07:20:47 PM
Go, you magnificent black bastard, go.

Bill Frist 2008-01-26 07:20:47 PM
the exit polls:

African-Americans

Obama 81%
Clinton 17%
Edwards 1%

African-American Women

Obama 82%
Clinton 17%
Edwards 0%

Whites

Edwards 39%
Clinton 36%
Obama 24%

If those numbers are true that could be huge.

I heard a lot of reports claiming that Obama had slipped to 10% amongst whites, which could be spun against him very badly. However, 24% out of a three person race is plenty respectable (when you combine it with a big win in the whitest state so far)

Also, Hillary with no female advantage amongst african americans? Big.

Shaggy_C 2008-01-26 07:20:48 PM
Ceeeeelebrate good times, come on!! Woo Woo!

I'm hearing that a couple networks called Clinton for 2nd. CNN isn't doing so.

I_Approve_Of_This_Message,

Not yet, John's gotta get enough delegates to turn loose and shift the results in Obama's favor.

Bill Frist 2008-01-26 07:21:22 PM

Also worth mentioning, a majority of the voters -- 56% -- said that Bill Clinton's campaigning was important to their vote today.

from MSNBC

Maybe that will finally shut him up and stop the Good Cop/Bad Cop operation

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-01-26 07:21:22 PM

i'll believe it once the votes are counted. until then, i'm not counting any chickens.

I like how the Clintons downplayed the hell out of Iowa, and are doing the same to SC. I'd like to see how this will play out over the next few days.

The younger white voters were, the more likely they were to vote for Obama.

NOOOOOOOOOOO. You mean young Southerners are less racist than old ones? My head asplode.

Shaggy_C 2008-01-26 07:22:15 PM
Bill Frist: Also, Hillary with no female advantage amongst african americans? Big.

They were doing 'on the street' interviews in black businesses over the course of the week. A black woman told the camera "I'm black first, and a woman second." Looks like she wasn't the only one.

Everybody is in such a rush to beat everyone else at "calling it". I am dreading the real election in November.

I am glad to see Obama winning big tonight. I'd really like to see Hillary come in third too.

Edwards dropping out and endorsing Obama could mean the end for Obama.... With his pledged delegates, he can get them to vote Obama at the DNC.... Obama's and Edwards combined delegates should be enough to knock out Hillary.
At least I think thats how it works.

Frank N Stein 2008-01-26 07:23:23 PM
Hopefully we get to see Mrs. Clinton cry again.
