Watching the cat trying to clean itself without front paws could be amusing.

/sorry

That reminds me of my cousins old hamster 'nubby'. He got him after the little guy had been microwaved. Poor thing had no legs.

Poor kitty. At least with such publicity she'll find a home.

A Farker should adopt this cat.

"I picked her up and couldn't tell she was in any kind of pain," Buck-Davis said. "She was just a purring machine."

Cats will also purr when in pain. Not always, but they'll do it. Given its condition, I probably would have given the poor cat a 22-caliber solution to its problems.

I'll adopt a cat when it can do my taxes.

SkullOne 2008-01-26 04:20:28 PM
That cat looks like a Maine Coon cat... a really pretty breed, with attitude.
That cat was probably really cute before this... I hope its owners find a nice fiery place in hell.
Those farking people deserve to die.

Nothing will last long, not even half a night in Anchorage, without shelter... It gets -30 there sometimes.

"'Popsicle' beats the odds to survive
William Lin, The Ottawa Citizen
Published: Wednesday, December 05, 2007

When a scrawny cat discovered lifeless in the snow came slowly back to life at the Ottawa Humane Society, there was no debate about a name for the little miracle.

Popsicle."

go for the eyes boo 2008-01-26 04:27:24 PM
Poor popsicle. I'd adopt him if I lived near there. I already have a couple of special needs cats - a brain damaged gimp and a diabetic.

If he was deliberately put out in those temps the owners really do need to be sentenced to spend an equal amount of time in the same situation. But - it's possible he's an escapee. I had a couple of escape artists that were convinced there must be dozens of fat lazy mice just waiting for them outside.

/the gimp looves mice

"I picked her up and couldn't tell she was in any kind of pain," Buck-Davis said. "She was just a purring machine."

Well, the thing is cats don't just purr when they're happy, they also purr when in severe pain, kinda like how humans cry when both injured/sad or very happy. Understandable mistake, of course.

radioman_ 2008-01-26 04:34:48 PM
My strictly indoor cat Pockets burst through my cordon of pit bull and chihuahua and made it outside early this January. He was gone most of the month, through an ice storm and deep cold, and I had given up hope. Then one night he showed up, thinner but in perfect shape. I wish he could tell me his story.

Popsicle was declawed, which is the sickest thing one can do to a cat. Declawing is not a fingernail trim. It is the removal of the entire first joint on the toes, effectively destroying one of the cat's primary sensory organs. With a 3 dollar trimmer and a little time every few weeks my cats have never damaged anything.

Wow, I just realized where this occurred: Fairbanks, ALASKA. What kind of heartless prick would desert a cat in an Alaskan winter?

I don't let them near the computer anymore - not since they ran up my credit card with kitty pron and traded my bank account info for a bag of catnip.

Smart, too. And if the one I had for a few years was any indication, eccentric.

Maine Coons are known for their uncatty ability and willingness to play "fetch." :)

The humanest thing for this cat would have been to to put it down. To make it suffer and live the rest of its life maimed just to assuage some people's feelings is cruel.

God help me, I laughed a little bit.

Seriously though, I agree with the people saying it needs to be put down. I'd be surprised if that cat's actually enjoying life right now...that looks painful as hell. :/

Slightly off-topic: I've got a 6-month old kitten who needs to get shots...anyone have any suggestions on what is or is not needed? He's an indoor cat and it is unlikely that he'll ever be around any other cats (except his brothers).

THIS.

But - it's possible he's an escapee.

If that were the case, with all the publicity, surely the owners would have come forward by now. Gotta figure she was dumped.

BTW, I have a brain-damaged gimp, also - plus, she's deaf. Brain-damaged gimps rule!

Ask your vet what shots they think it needs?

Cats and dogs are fairly resilient. Had a dog that went blind and deaf in her older age, but we couldn't have her put down: She was still spry, had all her marbles, and was still happy about life. She went through two days where she was so stressed about losing her vision and hearing that she shed all over the place... then one day she woke up and just found her way around by scent and touch.

I figure if the cat is content, gets attention, and seems to enjoy its life, why not? Cats can adapt just as well as dogs can. shiat on the owners for abandoning a DECLAWED cat during a bad winter, though. Sodding assholes.

They'll probably want all of them done. Drat, I was hoping to save some money. :p

Speaking of money, I'm now reading the "I'm getting a kick out of these replies" thread....thank you for giving me something to do for the last 45 minutes of work :)
