No. Teachers have phones in their rooms and are free to use them at any time. Students can normally only use phones at school with special permission. That's the way it's always been, and that's the way it should be. While in school the children should focus on learning, not what they're going to be doing that weekend.

no it isn't. the teachers are faculty. they are not students. faculty are employees who do the teaching, the rules for attending school do not apply to them because they are not the ones attending it.

remember? it's their job to teach your kids things, and if you make it harder to do their job, you are actively making your children less intelligent.

Is the news really reporting a detention? Sure that's probably a harsh punishment just for using a phone (should have just taken it away, and let him get it at the end of the day), but god damn who here wasn't screwed at some point while still in High School, that's part of the experience.

Administrators & teachers suck. Nobody should dictate that kids can't have phones after the authorities thought things out so well in Columbine, 9/11, Virginia Tech. There were rumors of a planned Breslan-style attack on a school a friend taught at. The Chief of Police even held a press conference saying this is outlandish, don't be afraid, if you stay home the school district will lose money, your kids will be fine. The day of the announced "attack" none of the Chief of Police's kids were in class.
