Tucker Carlson, who I usually don't like ever since he was so utterly biatchslapped by Jon Stewart, made an interesting point about this. Democrats are so caught up in politicking, they are going to wake up the day after they elect Hillary and ask themselves "Did we just make a huge mistake?"

Think of the future and the type of person you want to represent our nation for the next 8 years, both as a mirror and as an ambassador, and I really don't see how we won't regret not electing Obama.

Ya know, at first I thought that the Dems couldn't possibly be stupid enough to nominate Hillary. I'm beginning to see that once again I underestimated their ability to shoot themselves in the foot.

Joe Biden and John McCain must have been separated at birth.

And who is that Ronald Regan fellow? I like the cut of that man's jib!

Hmm, and Obama invoking Reagan in a speech was a bad thing, huh?

Excuse me? I'm an American, and there's no way in hell I want another Ronald Reagan. Tony Blair was passably competent, but I don't want just passable competence. I want someone who has good ideas and is a capable, decent man with sound policies.

I want Obama.

Clinton would be fine strictly on policy, but way too much of a headache with the right wing loonies banging on the drum about Vince Foster and Ron Brown and so on so loud they'd drown out anything else. I want some civility and decency and for the schmucks who've ran the White House for the last seven years to have their metaphorical 40 years in the desert. (Which is not necessarily as long as 40 years. Just enough time for them to straighten up their act and throw out the corrupt screwheads who are running their show.)

I want a person who can bring the country together while standing up for decency. And maybe some improvement in getting cheaper, more accessible education and health care while fixing the deficit and dollar by screwing over the really rich for a short time. 30 percent of the goddamn budget is interest payments to the people who hold the debt. That is, welfare to the really rich. (A little stricter hand in dealing with military contractors would also be nice. That's the other situation where you've got welfare for the rich.) In my book, the best person to do that is Obama.

Calvin Coolidge 2008-01-26 01:54:28 PM

RainWhenIDie 2008-01-26 02:06:18 PM
I love how he calls Ron Paul an isolationist and then completely dismisses him.

Isolationism - the policy or doctrine of isolating one's country from the affairs of other nations by declining to enter into alliances, foreign economic commitments, international agreements, etc., seeking to devote the entire efforts of one's country to its own advancement and remain at peace by avoiding foreign entanglements and responsibilities.

Sounds good to me since I live in this country, not one of the 100 countries we hand out money to and defend.

drdonks 2008-01-26 02:09:02 PM
I commented on the piece at like 11am saying they got the picture wrong, but they probably don't care. I'm thinking they may be like that campaign who used their terrible photoshop skills to make their guy look better. Its Biden's head but McCain's body.

Thanx fer nothing, LittleJohn!

Maybe Friar Tuck has an actual opinion here.

Wot this about Mitten the magical underwear wearing Romulan?

In depression Detroit, he's a hard-headed businessman; in the Bible Belt, he's anti abortion; in Iowa, he's the farmer's friend. He's the man with a plan, he's Misstra Know It All.

Quatchi's been sayin' all this fer a while now.

He's a shapeshifter, a chameleon.

I've noticed something about the naming convention here.

They want [Ronald] Reagan (or [Tony] Blair) but will probably get Hillary [Clinton] or [John] McCain

Why is everyone but Clinton referenced by their last names?

Calvin Coolige: would rather see Joe Biden as president than McCain, Hillary, and maybe even Obama

Quatchi likee the Joe Biden.

A Obama/Biden ticket would rollover any and all comers from the right.

Biden is a regular Joe who has had his sister running his campaigns for many moons now. Not corporately beholden. Not a multi gazzilionaire. He's a regular American with a lot of experience and America could sure as hell do a lot worse than to install the man in higher office.

/Unfortunately, the realpolitik fer Obama is that the Veep spot will go to Kingmaker Edwards unless he's willing to settle fer AG and all of this is predicated on ClintCo's dirty political tricks failing and her losing the supa-delegate votes.
//ie. Not. Bloody. Likely.
///Too bad. America soooo doesn't deserve the evil that ClintCo will bring after eight years of being morally and financially bankrupted by BushCo.

Robobuu: Why is everyone but Clinton referenced by their last names?

Nothing sinister just to prevent confusion with the other Clinton.

Hillary or McCain

The corporately pre-approved candidates. If both of them get the nods from their respective parties then Quatchi is throwing a wake fer American Democracy. Just putting the list of tunes to play together now, looking fer suggestions. Don McLean's "American Pie" is a gimme but where do you go from there?

A) The kind of idiot that gets confused is not the kind of idiot that watches anything political. B) I never see Clinton, ever. With Bush eight years ago I believe it was about half and half: George W. Bush and Bush.

Word. In the words of Richard Belzer, it's like having your senile great uncle flying the plane.

The only win of the Reagan years was the cold war, because the Soviet Union was like 'holy shiat, they actually elected a b-movie actor president and his finger is on the button, those crazy farks will do anything!'

It's amazing how much more popular Tony Blair is in the US, where people know relatively little about him, than he was/is in the UK. His approval ratings at times were lower than GWB's ever have gone.

I think if people actually knew what Blair did in office, as opposed to post 9/11 photo ops of him standing in front of a cheering Congress, they'd stop salivating over him.

For goodness sake's, for all the grief Dubya gets about how God and Jesus told him to invade Iraq, it's baffling how Blair gets off scot-free for holding damn near the same religious beliefs (and saying damn near the same things).

I think the guy's health care plan is the best of the three Dems. I like his stance on education. I like his voting record on campaign finance reform and the death penalty. I like his foreign policy stance getting tough on Pakistan while I also like his approach to handling Iraq (getting out rapidly).

I also appreciate the fact that while he knows the Republican leaders in Washington deserve 40 years walking in the desert, that doesn't mean that Republican VOTERS should get the same treatment and get excluded from having their say in policies. He's looking to be President of the United States for the people of the United States, not just for the Democratic base.

The guy is nuanced and thoughtful, and is running as clean a campaign as he can given the tactics of his present opposition and the GOP to bring him down.

To be frank, I'm also highly disenchanted with the idea of having a general election with Hillary as the Dem, she's too used to scrapping and brawling to actually get people to recognize their common causes instead of focusing on the factors that divide.
