This is pathetic. Many people called Clinton out on this strategy of turning Barack into a 'black candidate' a week or so ago, and it turns out that it's actually working.

That's what we get for being a nation of absolute morons. Thanks, SC.

If you're stupid enough to fall for that, you're too stupid to vote.

Who's the bigger asshats? The people fleeing Obama or the Clintons for pointing out the color of someone's skin?

Mythy

Turn him into a 'black candidate"? What's that suppose to mean???? He is black.

There's a big difference between a black candidate and a 'black candidate'. Al Sharpton was a 'black candidate'. Obama is a black candidate.

Wow. White South Carolinians are less likely to vote for a black man. Color me surprised.

When will the lesbians run from Hillary? The Mormons from Mitt? AARP from McCain? Hairdressers for Peace from Edwards?

This is all a bunch of media pawns trying to make us rethink our votes so that they are cast as the Fourth Estate desires.

Fark them all! Not a truly worthy one amongst them

Well, it is the farking Deep South. If whites are going to flee him it's going to be there.

95% white northern state Iowa votes for him by a large margin. Yeah.

Mr. Xhin: Hillary and Obama destroy each other. John Edwards comes in for the big win.

Edwards for President!! Wo0T!

Obama and Edwards seem to like each other - I don't really them destroying each other. If it comes to it, they are more likely to form a ticket.

nashBridges: Crosshair: Well, if Blacks can't run Detroit, how can we trust them to run the whole country?

Actually, this isn't a race argument, but I just stumbled on this nugget from the same Detroit City Council web site. These are their FAQ's (pops):

Listed in Descending Order of Frequency

1. How do I report drug activity?
2. How do I report a dangerous building?
3. How do I get rid of an abandoned car on my block?
4. How do I report my neighbor that leaves their courvillie container out all week?
5. My street light is out how do I get it repaired?
6. How do I petition the City Council?
7. The city didn't pick up my bulk items?
8. When will the city repair or repave my street?
9. The city tree or trees in front of my property are dead or need trimming?
10. Purchased a property from the Planning and Development Department more than a eight (8) months ago and I still don't have a deed to the property?

That's not a list you get from a working city. That's a list you get from people living in a nightmare. We need a Detroit thread.

Detroit needs a Katrina.

Since America is becoming an inner-city neighborhood, maybe we need an inner-city President.

I'm becoming less convinced we need the Wicked Witch of the East and her slick husband.

Tallgordon 2008-01-26 12:54:29 AM
God, won't it be just great when the same thing happens to her when she runs against a Republican and gets marginalized as a woman? I can see their first debate now.

"Aren't you cute? Run along, sweetheart, and fetch your husband, Bill. The men are talking now."

I hate that miserable biatch.

d'art 2008-01-26 12:54:44 AM
When Edwards drops after South Carolina, Obama will pick up the "anybody but Clinton" crowd.

If Edwards doesn't drop before Super Tuesday it's over for Obama.

We're all praying he comes to his senses. But in order for that to happen, his senses have to overcome his ego. And that's a pretty big mountain to climb.

It's pretty obvious that Hillary is employing a version of the Southern Strategy. Makes me sick. The sad thing is, there's a pretty decent chance it will work.

CNN wants to know who the black chicks are voting for. It's got to be pure hell. They might have to look at issues or something.

Echoic 2008-01-26 01:05:06 AM
d'art: If Edwards doesn't drop before Super Tuesday it's over for Obama.

I don't think so. It's statistically impossible for Hillary to win the nomination based on super Tuesday alone. Hillary is polling anywhere from 10-4% above Obama nationally. DNC delegates are awarded proportionally, so Hillary will have not many more delegates than Obama at this rate. Edwards doesn't need to drop. He'll most likely be giving his delegates to Obama anyway.

Obama's actually looking a lot better for the nomination than most people think he is. He's ahead by two delegates so far (not including superdels which can change at any time) and is looking good for SC tomorrow. When he wins that, he'll have some momentum going into super Tues with a delegate lead on Hillzilla.

EwoksSuck 2008-01-26 01:10:04 AM
While I'm sure race is part of this, if you look at those same polls a lot of the support from whites Obama has lossed is going to Edwards and not Hillary. I think this suggest that some of it may be the personal attacks between Hillary/Obama may be hurting them with white voters. I can also see how Edwards, who was born in South Carolina after all, and his message might appeal more to white Democrats who tend to be working poor and blue collar types. While I'm not saying we should fool ourselves into thinking race is not part of this, I think some other factors may at least in part be contributing to this trend.

That rating may be peculiar to South Carolina, with its history of racism

Um, yeah, maybe just a little bit. Because he did really horrible with white voters in Iowa and New Hampshire.

SomeoneDumb 2008-01-26 01:14:01 AM
I hope the Clinton's are happy. Yes, they're tossing aside one or two black votes to get seven or so white ones, and that's a winning strategy as long as winning the nomination is all that matters. I suspect they're counting on everyone quickly forgetting, like we do, and being able to patch up the scorched earth later.

/If Hillary's the Democratic candidate, I'll vote for a third party

Depending on the candidate the repubs choose, staying home may not be enough. Get out and vote AGAINST Hillary of she gets the nod. It'll be ugly, but consider it a protest vote.

I used to think so too, but it's all good as long as Edwards throws his delegates to Obama. There's evidence that Edwards is actually taking more votes from Clinton than from Obama, so it could actually be a net gain assuming his delegates vote for Obama at the convention. It's easy to paint all votes for Edwards and Obama as "anti-Clinton," but it's not quite as simple as that.

Damnit... don't fark this up, America
We can all come together for a pretty good candidate who has shown that he is open to crossing party borders to work on legislation and isn't deep in the pockets of lobbyists
or
We can go for the same old stuff repackaged. Hillary, the insurance companies' friend, Romney the suit who changes positions to match current polls, Huckabee.... well, you know about him, McCain (my favorite Republican, hope it's him vs. Obama, but I don't like the fact that he sucked up to Bush after all him and Rove did, also don't like his 100+ years in Iraq comment or his "Bomb Iran" song. Does that leave anybody out? oh yeah... 9/11 who is slipping in Florida and, in general, a bad candidate. And there's John Edwards... to tell the truth I haven't taken much time to learn about him so I am not going to give my opinion on him.

/my long winded opinion.

I'm sure he's taking some from Clinton, but Obama and Edwards both have around 40% second choice rates, while Hillary's barely in double digits. I believe Edwards voters would go about 2 or 3:1 to Obama.

Maybe you're right, I guess it just depends on the location. In Iowa, I bet your numbers are right. Somewhere like South Carolina, the opposite could be true. I forget where I read it, but I saw at least on poll recently that showed Clinton with a slight edge as the second choice of Edwards voters. I think it was a national poll, but I'm not positive.

notsosilentbob 2008-01-26 01:30:57 AM
Couldn't be the fact that Obama is an empty suit who says nice things that don't mean anything. Nor could it be the fact that he every time he engages in verbal sparring he loses the moral high ground he claims is his.

The vast majority of people I've met who support him, don't have any idea why they do so. They say "change" or go on about the "movement" but have no real idea as to who he is or what he has done that is going to prepare him for the job.

/Not for Hillary either
