The net result is less Carville and Begala on CNN. Just for that, I'll be voting for Obama.

Yeah. I saw Matt Lauer bludgeon Hillary this morning over unfair attacks. Lets get this straight, I hate Hillary, but Obama is media preferred.

Seems kind of stupid to have most of your analysis of the Democratic primary be done by supporters of one of the candidates.
Either get spin doctors for each candidate to argue or have some [at least somewhat) impartial analysis.

The media have without exception been reporting the virtual ties in New Hampshire and Nevada as decisive victories for Clinton.

Not just "same number of delegates each, but a few percent more actual votes for Clinton, therefor technically could be considered a victory in terms of momentum or whatever", but as "remarkable victory", "amazing comeback", "stunning upset", etc.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-01-25 12:11:47 PM
Isn't Carville working for Clinton anyway? No reason they should be letting him on the air, its just a bad conflict of interest.

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2008-01-25 12:39:53 PM
CNN was seriously embarrassed after Carville was practically masturbating himself on camera over Hillary's performance at a debate last year. This was a good move on CNN's part.

The media has been BLATANTLY rooting for B. Hussein Obama since day 1.
They just dont want someone with experience to go against McCain.
The Democrats know that there is no way that a colored guy with an admitted past filled with drug use and named Biraq Hussein Obama is going to carry the south.
Running a female from Arkansas who has 35 years of experience is the way to go, but, the mainstream media is hell bent on making B. Hussein Obama run so that the republicans can have another landslide. Some dems just dont get that.
/B. Hussein Obama in the election is like shooting fish in a barrel for the republicans.
//Nothing against the guy, but, he just isnt qualified and Hillary is.
///She can hit the ground running, B.Hussein couldnt hit the ground if he fell on it.
////B. Hussein Obama reminds me of a certain deputy on a certain television show...

The media wants a Clinton presidency...not so much because it's what they believe in, but because of the material they will provide.

The Clintons are better suited for TMZ than CNN.

Hillary Clinton cannot lead on her own.

She needs her husband to fight her battles for her.

Dude, have you been paying attention to anything over the past couple of weeks?

She has demonstrated that she cannot win the nomination without her husband's help. How are we to believe that she can effectively lead the country without her husband's help?

With whom does the buck stop?

Why are you using different criteria for a woman then a man?

Do you think women lack the skills to lead?

Bill had Hillary next to him the whole time during his campaign. Why do you have a double standard with her?

Sounds to me like the details don't bear out the headline. Farkland should be shocked.

Feist pointed out that a few other analysts aligned with campaigns of both parties had been told the same, and added that aligned analysts would only be appearing in contexts where they were acting as campaign surrogates. Carville did appear on Larry King on Jan. 9 as a surrogate.

Basically they'll still be on CNN, they'll just be representing Clinton explicitly when they do.
Seems fair considering they are on CNN largely because of the notoriety they achieved through the first Clinton campaign/administration.

Had bush 41 come out attacking bush 43's republican opponents, people would have been disgusted by the blatant abuse of former office and cried out against the Royal nature of it. Bush 41, to his credit didn't even loudly endorse his son, realizing how inappropriate that would be.
In fact, no other president, sitting or former has in recent history (maybe ever, though unlikely) attacked their own party candidates to bolster their selected successor. Bill Clinton is the reigning symbol of the democratic party, Lowering himself from Mr. President to Mr. Attack Dog should make everyone feel dirty.

Corvus: At no time in his campaign, or administration, did Bill Clinton indicate a reliance on his wife in order to do his job.

The Lewinsky affair certainly demonstrated that.

Conversely, in the past few weeks, Hillary has demonstrated that she is completely reliant on her husband.

I would happily support a female candidate who is able to run on her own record and merits.

We're already endured 7+ years of a puppet administration. Do we really want another one?

Well I am sorry if you are uneducated about the subject. Here let me help.

Along with Senator Ted Kennedy, she was the major force behind the State Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997, a federal effort that provided state support for children whose parents were unable to provide them with health coverage.[125] She promoted nationwide immunization against childhood illnesses and encouraged older women to seek a mammogram to detect breast cancer, with coverage provided by Medicare.[126] She successfully sought to increase research funding for prostate cancer and childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health.[45] The First Lady worked to investigate reports of an illness that affected veterans of the Gulf War, which became known as the Gulf War syndrome.[45] Together with Attorney General Janet Reno, Clinton helped create the Office on Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice.[45] In 1997, she initiated and shepherded the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which she regarded as her greatest accomplishment as First Lady.[45] As First Lady, Clinton hosted numerous White House Conferences, including ones on Child Care (1997),[127] Early Childhood Development and Learning (1997),[128] and Children and Adolescents (2000),[129] and the first-ever White House Conferences on Teenagers (2000)[130] and Philanthropy (1999).[131]

Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time,[132] breaking the mark for most-travelled First Lady held by Pat Nixon.[133] In a September 1995 speech before the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Clinton argued very forcefully against practices that abused women around the world and in China itself,[134] declaring "that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women's rights as separate from human rights"[134] and resisting Chinese pressure to soften her remarks.[132] She was one of the most prominent international figures at the time to speak out against the treatment of Afghan women by the Islamist fundamentalist Taliban that had seized control of Afghanistan.[135][136] She helped create Vital Voices, an international initiative sponsored by the United States to promote the participation of women in the political processes of their countries.[137]

And she has been senator since 2000. Are you saying a senator is too inexperienced to be president?

THIS. Not only are those two losing their analytical edge in general (and therefore should be banned until they shape up) but they are clearly, clearly and by their own admission not objective reporters on this race.

I know media isn't objective by any stretch. But I don't see what's wrong with telling political hacks, who self-identify as hacks and everybody knows they are hacks, that maybe we've heard enough for a little while.

That said I don't think the discourse will improve, just this isn't some 'omg' bombshell.

Some critics called it inappropriate for the First Lady to play a central role in matters of public policy. Supporters pointed out that Clinton's role in policy was no different from that of other White House advisors and that voters were well aware that she would play an active role in her husband's Presidency.[107] Bill Clinton's campaign promise of "two for the price of one" led opponents to refer derisively to the Clintons as "co-presidents",[108] or sometimes "Billary".[109]

If she can openly use her status as a woman to get people to vote for her, people can use it against her just as well. I don't think that's a fair reason to attack her, but I don't think it's a good reason to support her, either.

And it's not so much her policies that I have a problem with. It's her character and the fact that I think she will seriously weaken the party and maybe lose a general election that should be a Democratic landslide. Like it or not, in America we are forced to take strategic considerations into account if we don't want to end up a worse outcome. This is like game theory 101.

You really think drawing a line between Hillary campaigning for Bill in 1992 and Bill campaigning for Hillary in 2008 is sexist? I wasn't able to vote in '92, but I'm pretty sure Hillary wasn't a former two-term United States of America President back then.

I will say though that at least Clinton's fellow Senators seem to disagree that she's unable to lead.
