I went, against my will, line dancing with a friend about two weeks ago. I spent the time leading up to the experience making snarky remarks about country music in general and line dancing specifically, and when we got there I immediately fell to mocking the cowboy-hat wearing masses moving through their steps. "I don't know anybody here," I said, and she introduced me to some of the regulars. "This is a stupid song," I said, but she dragged me on the floor anyway. "I don't know any moves," I said, but she just had me follow her and taught me a few different dances.

And yeah, by the end of the night I was having a pretty farking awesome time.

Yep, I got roped into the same thing, only swap country for live celtic music - beer was involved. After a lil' while, it became known as "Tuesday".

VT Farkers - Does Top Of The Stairs still do that on Tuesday nights?

Dear Garth:

A man in his late forties should not be photographed wearing a backwards baseball cap. Even if he's in LA.

Just saying,

So will Chris Gaines be there?

yeah - i call it corporate country. george strait, garth, et al.... shows are precisely scripted. songs are generally written by a small army of writers not 'the star'. the most the singer can do to play along is strum an acoustic.

but i admit i like brad paisley - writes his own songs. great sense of humor. and he can jam. loves allison krauss and union station too...

I believe that's who the benefit is for.

"Garth Brooks did for country music what pantyhose did for finger-farking"

~ Waylon Jennings

Now go out and see some "real" country music like, Eleven Hundred Springs, Dale Watson, Wayne "The Train" Hancock, Hank III, The Derailers, Justin Trevino, and lets not forget the great Ray Price.

Garth is not worthy to even sniff Ray's jock.

Corporate country blows.

I have a friend who's a musician and has worked/toured with GB several times. I've never seen anyone despise another human being as much as my friend does Garth. It's loads of fun to put a couple beers in him and start singing "Low Places" (or whatever the hell that song is called).

I love real country music, not Nashville crap, but I had to post this.

THIS.

Texas country is also good--a friend of mine turned me on to Kevin Fowler and Pat Green.

Real country:

Bob Wills
Hank the first
Johnny cash
Carter Family
Merle haggard
Waylon jennings
Willie Nelson
Loretta Lynn

Hank the Third is a riot too, give some of his stuff a listen.

I think Brad Paisley is one of the best guitarists out there in ANY genre of music. The guy knows what he's doing with a Tele in his hands.

Also, Allison Krauss is a goddess and I want to make many babies with her.

holy shiat!? thats paisley playing? i figured it was a studio guy. my respect for him just tripled.

he is amazingly funny too...

he isn't really "country" persay, but kenny chesney is a pretty good song writer...its like what jimmy buffet would be if he were talented.

Check out the instrumental stuff on his albums.I think all his albums have one instrumental. He absolutely SHREDS on that stuff. One of these days I would love for him to say "fark it" and release an instrumental-only album.

Paisley does get a little too commercial country for my taste, but the dude is immensely talented.

Check out some of Hank Snow's guitar work very underrated.

Also I am sure that Brad could learn a few things about the Tele from the late great Don Rich.

Amazing that for once there's a country music thread and the "OMG ALL coontRY MUSIK SUKKS STUPID REDNECK BUSH LOVERS LOLOLOLOLOLOLZZZ!!!" trolls haven't shown up. I'm almost disappointed.

You have heard of him but just do not know it. He did "Moving On"
I would suggest his greatest hits. Sadly a lot of the old country guys that is all you can get these days all the vinyl they put out is not no longer available.

Also all you Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Bakersfield sound fans should check out Wynn Stewart. It is well worth the time and money.

I am not a country fan, so I had never heard of Brad Paisley. The first time I heard him on the radio, it was an instrumental, and I thought it was some unreleased recording of Danny Gatton. If any guitarist can make you confuse his sound with Danny Gatton, you are most definitely doing something right..

I live about 7 miles from where Garth Brooks lives as the crow flies.

He is a decent guy when seen around town. Town being Owasso, Oklahoma. It is not unusual to see him in his Carharts standing in the check out line at Reasor's. (Reasor's being the local grocery store.) I have to admit I cut him off at the deli counter once and he was the perfect gentleman. Say what you want about his music, but he is a decent human being.

Paisley is an incredible guitarist. I like Wade Hayes too, the guy smokes on a tele. Still, I think it's more important that we talk about my favorite part of country music - Sara Evans.

Sara! I love you!
