Here's what I think he meant:
From quote: '...these people...' - the gangsta rap/hip-hop world at large
From quote: '...the people that support them' - self-explanatory, but I'm not sure he was being race-specific...

FTFA: The injunction would ban them from congregating, carrying guns, drinking alcohol in public or staying out past 10 p.m.

Isn't drinking in public already illegal? And how many gang members have a license to legally carry around a gun?

I like rap, it is very emotional music. Every rap song (at least from deathrow) is like a documentary of ghetto life. It is very clever and very moving.

can you listen to this and not say wow that is touching music?

I desperately hope sarcasm is what you were going for there.

Yea, I got a little misty when he says "I sell my soul for biatches". Now that is poetry in action. Especially when he glamorizes a lifestyle that has kept untold thousands, if not millions, of Americans from reaching any level of self esteem or success. But as long as they make's money and you feel good...

No, drinking in public is usually not illegal in the US. Beer at a ball game, wine with your picnic in the park, just hanging out on the stoop sharing a scotch-- all legal, generally.

And there are many instances in many places where carrying a gun is legal, even in states without freely issued concealed carry permits. For example: in my home I can carry all the guns I own. Also, many times business owners are permitted to carry firearms at work.

Also, remember that gang membership isn't unnecessarily something you can 'look up' about someone who is applying for a job-- there are gang members who are police officers, security guards and in other jobs that allow them to carry firearms.

Not every gang member has a record.

I suggest the liberal application of alternate doses of beer, whiskey and tequila until you either forget what you've pictured or find yourself aroused, whichever occurs first.

The rap dynamic has changed. There is no more ghetto. There is the mansion, the cars, the flash, the biatches, the money.

There. Is. No. More. Ghetto.

This is just another example of how the white man be puttin' his foot up the black man's arse!

This order also violates the so-called gang-members' Constitutional Right to assemble peacably. But because the buzzword 'gang' is in the order, the judge will obvuiously overlook their Constitutional Rights, because well, ya know, alleged gang members have no rights, and stuff.

something I can remember: so you think that song by tupac and this song is the same level? both totally negative?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX6rC1krGp0

imo the tupac one is touching and magical where as this one just glorifies crime. Maybe you should listen to rap until you can tell the difference between the genres, it is stupid to say ALL rap is negative rap is a HUGE part of music with probably almost a hundred unique styles.

I'd rather stick a fork in my crotch. Seriously. And watch out for that tricky comma.

Zik-Zak 2008-01-24 10:17:34 AM
something i can remember

I don't have it in me to class Tupac Shakur with rap (especially if used all-encompassingly, from Kurtis Blow to Soulja Boy). I like to think that Tupac is Tupac, just like Beethoven isn't just classical music, Beethoven is Beethoven.

Of course Tupac rapped about ghetto life. He had a lot of material from there. But remember, you're talking to several who have been jaded and/or disgusted of recent displays of what is called 'rap' ('Sucker-Free by MTV'! *retch*).

/I don't listen to rap post-1998.

Actually, it is illegal in most places. Yes, there are exceptions (New Orleans), but most places, you get locked up for public intoxication/open container in public/etc.

Many of the places you listed, the ball game, your stoop, are PRIVATE property.

nopokerface [TotalFark] 2008-01-24 10:28:44 AM
something I can remember: well to each their own I don't really care what you guys listen to and I know it is mutual heh. I just thought I might try to make it clear that it isn't negative all the way, especially if you really look deep at it and not on a superficial level. I like all rap though, even new shiat and some very negative stuff like brotha lynch / clipse / tech nine etc

what is wrong with my comma?

The key word is 'generalization'.

Post 1994 for me. (there are VERY few exceptions though).

I think open containers are illegal in New Orleans as well. At least the times I visted there it was. I think the key is "open beverage container". Most people in the French Quarter will tell you to pour your drink in a cup and not walk around with a beer bottle in your hand. This applies to most places as well.

However, I am sure a certain times (i.e. Mardi Gras) it is overlooked.
