The magazine suspects that GN'R may follow the RADIOHEAD route of pay-as-you-like downloads.

oh that would be funny. For all the concerts that he's no-showed on... this would be a great idea.

/too bad you couldn't put in a negative price.

in the storied 50-year history of rock 'n roll, there can only be one band crowned as the LAMEST BAND EVER. and guns 'n roses were, are, and always will be that band.

please go away.

I call bullshiat until I see it in stores. Axl seems to say "it's on its way!" every 2 or 3 years.

G'n'R are great!!

And with that name change to Velvet Revolver, even better.

GnR ain't GnR without Axl, Slash, Izzy and Duff. add any drummer.

Velvet Revolver is the new Guns and Roses.

Rev. Skarekroe [TotalFark] 2008-01-23 01:36:12 PM
It's been finished before.
Problem is, Axl decides the chi isn't right, or Mercury is in the 7th House, or whatever, and he scaps it and records the whole thing.

AuralArgument 2008-01-23 01:49:12 PM
I bet we'll see a Chinese democracy before we hear Chinese democracy.

Shatner's Toupee 2008-01-23 02:17:29 PM
I will always have to have a special place in my heart for the original GNR. Their show was the one and only true riot I've ever been in, with peaople punching cops, teargas, firehoses, rednecks throwing folding chairs... the whole shebang. Riverport Amphitheater in St. Louis. Even Axl's ass got some in when he started the whole thing by punching a biker in the front row and walking his puss ass offstage.

heavymetal [TotalFark] 2008-01-23 02:29:39 PM
I have a friend who is in direct contact with somebody working on Chinese Democracy and I have listened to what technically is the CD Chinese Democracy. I don't know how much is left to do but the tracks sounded completely finished and of good studio master quality. My question was why hasn't this been released already since it was pretty much finished and good? Of course nobody knows but I think Axl has OCD like Howard Hughes did and is a perfectionist who spends too much time on minor details.

The songs are more of the longer orchestrated types like November Rain, Civil War, and such. They do rock and have some very intense parts though. While there could be I didn't hear and felt it could use a few, there was an absense of shorter up-tempo "rocker" tunes like Welcome To The Jungle or You Could Be Mine. A few of these would make the album flow a little better as well as make better singles for the radio than a more "orchestrated" song in my opinion.

The most impressive part is the vocal range Axl uses in some of the songs. I don't know if he took voice lessons or just has a very good sound man, but it is the best I have ever heard his voice.

Transpogue 2008-01-23 03:19:34 PM
Ok, am I missing something here, or is this not an album?

As in, around 12 songs all put onto a cd, maybe 2?

Why is this that big of a deal?

So Axl is putting out a new album...I just...I just don't get why this is some big huge thing.

I mean, how earth-shattering can these songs be? I mean, they might be really, really good, but is this anything that is going to shape the future course of human events?

I just can't see why anyone cares THAT much about a new album.

I mean, let's say that we managed to bring back from the dead John Lennon and George Harrison, and we got the original Beatles back together, and they recorded a whole new album, then that would be worth the kind of attention this farking Axl album is getting.

Just sayin'...

It's not just an album...it's a big bloated project that took a decade to finish...millions have been spent on it and musicians have come and gone. It'll be looked at as the "Waterworld of rock and roll."

echoshizzle 2008-01-23 04:04:09 PM
If you listened to any of the leaks of this album you might be impressed..

I'm a huge GNR fan, I think this album will be pretty damn good. Much better than a ton of the music that has been released in the past decade since it was known Chinese Democracy was coming. It might not be the original band, but they all played to Axl's strengths.

And Velvet Revolver isn't half the band GNR was. They are decent, have some pretty good songs, but that can't compare to the music that was Guns N Roses.

radioberlin 2008-01-23 04:22:14 PM
Any using the line about seeing a democratic China before the release of Chinese Democracy should have all their teeth pulled. Axl made that joke when he titled the record and it's been made everyday since, multiple times a day, let it go.

Maybe you have some nice Titanic material to debut?

So do you work for Axl directly, or for the record label?

Possibly Velvet Revolver isn't half the band that GNR was... but GNR isn't a quarter the band that GNR was.

The album may or may not be finished. Axl's career, however, is confirmed flatline. I personally believe that's why Chinese Democracy hasn't been released, because the final nails in the coffin won't go in until he releases it... and no one cares.

I'm wondering if Axl saw that My Bloody Valentine is actually releasing an album this year and got scared. (MBV's last album came out in 91) He apparently spammed their myspace page, so it could be...

Dahmers Love Zombie

The original joke was "Jesus is coming back with a copy of Duke Nukem Forever under his left arm, Dark Corners of The Earth under his right and have Chinese Democracy on his Walkman."

/ My lone contribution to the internet, from a Zophar's Domain post in 2000. Same name as I have now. (There is only one Jedekai, since AOL in 1993)

/Dark Corners of The Earth finally came out in 2005. It took seven years to arrive. It killed Headfirst productions, which is sad since so many reviews stated it was the best original horror game since Resident Evil 1. ("Sleeper of The Year" by damn near every magazine under the sun. Now a copy can go for as much as 125$ for the rare-as-hen's-teeth Xbox version. I had a reservation for six years. Still on my top ten of all time. So innovative.)

Post should still be there...

Because the last new Guns n' Roses albums came out on my 18th birthday. I'm turning 35 this year. If I'd had a kid on the same day Use Your Illusions 1 & 2 came out, they wouldn't only be old enough to have been Bar Mitvahed already, they'd almost be graduating freakin' high school! Seventeen years is a long time, man. That's why.

I was all set to argue with you. No farkin' way did the Use Your Illusions come out when we were 18 (I'm turning 35 this year too). It had to be more recent than that! I went to Wikipedia to make sure I had my facts straight, and...uh...they were released in 1991. Which would have made me (counts on fingers...) um...18.

shiat. I'm getting old.

For what it's worth, I actually liked November Rain.
