Whistling aside (please!), his dance moves are hypnotic in an Ashley Simpson kind of way.

I love the fact that the MONKS did this shiat (the noose-tie, the shaved-head, the weird music) not in the 70s, or 69 or 68 or 67.,,

1965? WTF... talk about avant-guarde, these guys take the cake

Jerry Lee Lewis - Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On 1964

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z73vf4-Fmbw

This. As far as anyone could get. Watch the audience.

Again, another take on Whole Lotta Shakin

Little Richard - Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On 196?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyswxUZ42L8

This one percolates...but heats up pretty quick.

Ta to Artman fer the Monks.

That some trippy shiat right there.

Tribal, squarehead, proto-punk with an hardcore edge.

Amazing for it's time.

Thanx agin.

Released in 1970, but filmed in 1967 (Warner shelved the movie for 3 years because they thought it was too weird for mainstream audiences and they had no idea how to market it). This scene from Performanceis the first genuine music video.

Just wanted to draw a comparison of live TV then-versus-recently. I caught this on TV about 4 years ago. I enjoyed the performance, never having heard of either artist at the time, but was -blown away- by the camera work.

BorgiaGinz: This scene from Performance is the first genuine music video.

These 4 gentlemen would beg to differ.
From 1966, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg: Link (new window)
