Bush is in the fuerher bunker in DC. Karl Rove is at the Swiss border asking for asylum. Halliburton is taking over beneficial occupancy of government property until the Dubai-Saudi-Sino-Russian group completes the purchase.

"Past performance of shares is not an indication to their future performance. The value of shares or income from them may go down as well as up. As shares are valued from second to second, their bid and offer value fluctuates sometimes widely. The value of shares may rise or fall due to the volatility of world markets, interest rates and capital values or, for shares held in overseas markets, due to changes in the exchange rate in the currency in which the investments are denominated. You may not get back the amount you invested."

Oh, so that's what the clause in the small print meant...

"Take all of your money out of T-Bills, and put them into...waffles! Tasty waffles, with lots of syrup!"

In all seriousness, things have been very jittery here (I work in Financial Services) since last night. With Paulson on the horn and Asia continuing to soil itself this is going to be an apocalyptic open. I'm just praying to god that the NYSE Circuit Breakers don't trip today. That'll make life REALLY interesting.

What's interesting to me is that everyone seems to be calling for the Fed to reduce interest rates, despite the fact that doing so right now will only weaken the already pathetic US dollar, which in turn will drive up energy prices even more.

It was interesting to see how Bush went to Saudi Arabia to ask them to increase oil production, only to get told to talk to the hand. Really, at this point, what can the US offer them except for a "Pretty please?" - with our economy heading towards the shiatter and our military mucking around in Iraq, it's not like the Saudi's have any real incentive to go easy on us, after all it's abundantly clear now that we need them more than they need us.

I'm just waiting to see what the fallout is going to be once they decide they've milked the swirling US currency as much as they can and decide to switch over to the Euro as the currency that their oil prices are pegged to. Oh well, at least it'll curb our illegal immigration problem when the dollar is worth less than the peso.

/viva la bush!

I checked my 401(k) this weekend and realized it'd lost about 9%. At first I was furious. But then again, I'm not retiring any time soon, so I guess my contribution is just buying more shares for now.
