Best of luck to him. Things can't stay static forever.

I've been on a big DKM kick lately, too. Weird.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I bet it had something to do with a drunken brawl between members.
I've just gotten into DKM, and I think the guitar player has one of the warmest yet crunchiest guitar sounds.

Maybe there was some kind of beef over the t-shirts.

Guess this means they won't be playing IF (and, as a true New England fan, it's ALWAYS an if) they need a rolling rally in two weeks in Boston....

\I know it's more of a Sox thing, but still

I play in a band, we're the best in the land
We're big in both Chelsea and France
I play one mean guitar and then score at the bar
There's a line of chicks waiting for their chance
So come on now honey, I'll make you feel pretty
These other gals mean nothing to me
Let's finish these drinks and be gone for the night
'Cause I'm more than a handful, you'll see

[Chorus:]
So kiss me, I'm shiatfaced
I'm soaked, I'm soiled and brown
in the trousers, she kissed me
And I only bought her one round

I can bench press a car, I'm an ex football star
with degrees from both Harvard and Yale
Girls just can't keep up, I'm a real love machine
I've had far better sex while in jail
I've designed the Sears Tower, I make two grand an hour
I cook the world's best duck flambe
I'll take the pick of the litter, girls jockey for me
I don't need these lines to get laid

[Chorus]

I'm a man of the night, a real ladies delight
See my figure was chiseled from stone
One more for the gal then I'll escort her home
Come last call, I'm never alone
I've a house on the hill with a red water bed
That puts Hugh Heffnor's mansion to shame
With girls by the pool and Italian sports cars
I'm just here in this dump for the game

[Chorus x2]

Ahh, fark it. Who am I shiatting?

I'm a pitiful sight, and I ain't all that bright
I'm definitely not chiseled from stone
I'm a cheat and a liar, no woman's desire
I'll probably die cold and alone

But just give me a chance, 'cause deep down inside
I swear I got a big heart of gold
I'm a monogamous man, no more one night stands
Come on, honey, let me take you home

Great song, should be the national anthem of Farkistan.

If I could voluntarily relocate it'd be to Boston. Unfortunately the Canuckistan navy doesn't maintain a base there. I never seem to manage a port visit to Boston when the Dropkicks are home. -sigh-

The connection is there, though. Halifax and Boston are basically two siblings who'd love to fark the crap out of each other but can't. We use geography instead of genealogy as an excuse.

Didn't Boston rescue Halifax during some disaster or something? An explosion or something, right?

The "real story?" I think the real story is that The Dropkick Murphys have been an overrated act for years. Pretty much since their inception.

/Love the Pogues.
//Dropkicks are for the Shanty-Irish.

The real story is pretty much what they said. He had been trying to incorporate some different sounds into their music and the Dropkicks have been pretty adamant over the years to try and keep their music the same as it always was (though it was a lot harder in the early years). He is a good guy and I haven't heard anything about infighting and I seriously doubt that this is not an amicable breakup. I have hung out with them a few times and as a band they get along very well, and bands in Boston I know that play with them don't see this asanything other than him feeling it was time to leave.

I went to their St Pats show 2 yrs in a row but didn't go last year because they played at BU. They probably didn't want to add more shows at the Avalon and just would rather fill up the seats at one of the many surrounding universities.
They have been getting softer each album they record. They are the ones taking their music in a different direction and I for one believe that if they really wanted to preserve their fan base they should not change their unique sound from the past. I love the DKM's but love the old shiat much more than their new stuff.

Screw the Murphys. The Street Dogs are Boston's true punk band.

as i've said before: Do or Die = 10/10, superb album. ever since then, the scores have dropped 1 point with each subsequent release. the first two albums after Do or Die? hey, cool, alright. but now the albums are scoring a what, 4/10?

I can remember going to the Superbowl of Hardcore in D.C. back in 97 or 98 and hearing DKM for the first time.

It was amazing. Made the 15+ other bands sound like tired rehashes of hardcore.

The skinheads went wild for it.

I didn't quite think they were nearly as solid when the original singer left.

Shame.

Fond memories though.

theurge14: Didn't Boston rescue Halifax during some disaster or something? An explosion or something, right?

Rescue might not be exactly the right word - after the Halifax Explosion in 1917, several Boston groups sent supplies and personnel to aid in the recovery effort. As a way of thanking the city, every year since 1971 Halifax has sent Boston a Christmas tree, which Boston uses as the official city tree for the season.

I just came by to say your band sucks.
I care who they are and weather or not I've even heard of them, but they still suck.

Does that sum up the thread?
Good.

I would also like to add that No Use For A Name plays a version of "Fields of Athenry" that should convince DKM to go back to working at Burger King.

Really? I mean don't get me wrong I love NUFAN's version of Fields but DKM's isn't half bad... it has an anthem like quality to it, one that would make you stand and rise your pint...

/No Use For a Name is twice the band DKM is BTW, and I love DKM...
//"Justified Black Eye" FTW!!!

Anthems are for baseball games. Music is for pleasure.
