"According to witnesses, a loud explosion was heard and then bodies and debris crashed to the ground."

that's a nice visual.

They were private planes, they kept to themselves, and no one ever thought that they would end up doing something so horrible.

I always am grateful when private planes don't injure non-oocupants during a crash.

Any chance one of the planes had either Paris Hilton or Rosie O'Donnell?

Small point, with 4 people dead, but:
Corona is east of LA, not west.

/where will they bury the survivors?

Oldiron_79 2008-01-20 10:21:32 PM
am I the only one that first read that as privateer aircraft?

HornedFrogsFan 2008-01-20 10:21:35 PM
Okay, Grammar Nazis, before you retaliate, I now realize that I used "was" too many times in my previous post.

Kthxbye.

This is why you don't drink and fly. After all, who wants to die over this:

Those planes collided miles away from ordinary.

The "Corona Cowboys" strike again. I've seen guys off-frequency, landing downwind, cutting people off in the pattern. It was bound to happen sooner or later. sigh...

Thats some nice flying Orville.

Toy_Cop 2008-01-20 10:30:57 PM
at least they were in private planes before they died. a luxury that many don't get to enjoy.

duh duh dah... duh duh dah, my Corona....

trafficontrolr 2008-01-20 10:34:22 PM
that airport gets insanely busy on the weekends, it has needed a control tower for years but no one cares until planes start trading paint.

Most private planes are owned by private pilot's clubs. When you join you pay 500 or so for insurance and towards the monthly payoffs (if it wasn't purchased outright). Its a collective time-share: you just pay for the gas.

Sounds like someone should've zigged instead of zagging during a VFR flight.

Its hard to imagine with all that airspace that two very small aircraft could collide in mid-air.

I saw a similar midair collision over Torrance in about 1973. It's a visual that lasts a lifetime.

dictyboy-

Yikes, I can't imagine witnessing something like that...

supaxi 2008-01-20 10:56:44 PM
I guess this is like when two ships in the middle of the ocean can't decide which way to turn and smash into each other...

It's hard to believe in 3-d space where you have so much room that planes manage to collide. Maybe they were like the pilots of a commercial flight I was on where the two planes passed head-on about 1000 feet apart.

I hope it wasn't Frank.

He flies out of Corona.

So it says 4 were killed all from the planes, then it says 2 were killed in the crash and two on the ground. So were two bystanders on the ground killed? Or have they already figured out that two definately were killed in the initial collision, and the other two were alive until they hit the ground;(?

I lived in Torrance in '73 (grew up there), but don't recall that. Care to refresh my memory?

Only rich people own airplanes, and (insert Digg phrase here) so they deserved it. We MUST (insert Digg phrase here), people! We must overcome the (insert Digg phrase here) (insert Digg phrase here) until the (insert Digg phrase here) victory!

Yeah, I was confused by that as well. I assume they mean two died instantly when the planes collided and the other two plummeted to their deaths.

Helgoor 2008-01-20 11:30:51 PM
wow thats a few miles from where i live here in riverside, how weird..i bet corona fire are eating up all this air time..

Class 9 CBS. thank you.

I just heard about this on my local news, they said that it was unknown whether people on the ground were hurt or if it was 4 people in the planes.
