Why would she tape herself beating the kid? Was it supposed to go on her Myspace?

SnarfVader 2008-01-20 09:51:52 PM
Maybe the cops will give her back her phone so she can film "Bertha" hitting her in prison.

Hey, she was just spanking it, You know all kids need a good spanking now and then. Unless the kid had to go to the hospital she should be commended for showing that kid what's what.

Actually, it looks like it may have been her roomie's phone that was sold.

Officers said Aisha Bowen, 18, was recently videotaped by her roommate striking the baby several times.

The phone was recently sold and the new owner turned the video over to police last week.

Which raises the question: if the roommate recorded it in the first place, why didn't she report it?

Catsmeow 2008-01-20 10:11:47 PM
Roommate took the video.

I can't figure out why anybody who doesn't understand child development, and really like babies, would take care of someone else's babies. It can't be the money.

I assume this was more than just swatting the little hand away from a hot cup of coffee or a swat on the diaper for trying to toddle into the street--other than that kind of thing, there's no reason to hit a kid that little at all.

I don't like other people's kids, so you couldn't pay me to babysit them. I'm not stupid enough to undertake a demanding, often frustrating task for low wages when I have no talent for it.

I say that parents today aren't qualified to make that choice any more, and that school teachers, babysitters, gym coaches, bus drivers and the like, should be allowed to spank children. Especially if they're the spawn of parents who don't believe in spanking, or actually punishing a kid.

Now, I define spanking as hitting only the arse (lump of fat/muscle, not vital body parts, good to taking physical abuse), no more than 10 swats, no less than 3, hand or belt (with belt buckle firmly held in the hand).

Holy hell. If that were the case, I'd be lucky if I was ever able to sit down as a child. I was on the receiving end of enough spankings with a hand/belt/wooden spoon as it was. Having the ability of allowing OTHERS to redden my arse...I'd be terrified to blink without the proper permission! (Might not have been a bad thing though)

I don't agree with the idea of giving ANYONE the authority to smack my kid's arse though. Some people (even parents) don't know when enough is enough and tend to take things too far. I've seen it happen first hand where a so-called "spanking" is nothing more than a beating.

Obviously, authority needs to come from the home first and foremost...and yes, I agree, there are many parents who don't agree with spanking or punishing their child(ren)...However, with today's society being the way it is, it's far too dangerous to even discipline your own child via a spanking for fear of Child Protective Services or whatever the hell they are tying you up in red tape for "child abuse". As much as I'd love to in some cases, I'd never dare to lay my hand on another perosn's child, no matter how deserving they were of it.

Hey, she was just spanking it, You know all kids need a good spanking now and then.

1. Spanking is one thing but the article said she hit the kid which makes me think it was a blow to the face of a closed fist. Both of which are much worse than spanking. There is never a reason to strike a kid with your fist.

2. A 10 month old is not old enough is not old enough to realize right from wrong there fore the hitting did not teach the kid anything only hurt and frightened it.

3. It wasn't her kid! Punishment When called for outside of time out and suspension should be left to the parent. But again the child is to young to be responsible for it's actions thus should not be punished at this age.

4. There are other methods of disaplining a child that work much better.

Seriously, my dad would beat and threaten us. We learned to tolerate a few minutes pain and sneak around so we didn't get caught. My mom however never physically hurt us, but was very creative. Such as one time I compared living with her to living in jail. So she showed me what jail was really like.

She took all my toys and all my decorations (Including the curtains) out of my room. She left me my bed, my blanket, and a little table to eat my meals on and that's were I stayed. I came out only to use the rest room then went right back to my 'cell'. She didn't lay a finger on me but it was a long time before I misbehaved again.

People don't need to hit kids to discipline them and I plan to never spank mine. It just takes a little imagination and a little effort to make kids mind. It's just easier for the parent to hit a kid, and it relieves there frustration, but it does not teach.

But as I stated above, a 10 month old does not have the mental capacity to determine right from wrong nor the ability to connect their actions to the abusive behavior thus not only was she breaking the law by hitting another person's child, but she was not teaching it to behave anyway. I hope she gets the same treatment in prison, because unlike the helpless baby she IS old enough to determine right from wrong.

Well, they had to get the money for the bluetooth headset, phone and phone contract somehow? Now, odds are, while they may have a job, it's not an executive job.

Not to threadjack here or anything, last year I worked with this one dickhead who had one of those "Look at me!" bluetooth head sets. He would sit in the breakroom, and when a conversation started near him, he'd shout "I'm on the phone, shut up!". He did that to me, and I said, "You're on a cell phone, you can leave and go somewhere quiet, I'm staying here." and I continued my conversation. He eventually left, but filed a complaint with the boss against me.

Sadly he still works there, I don't.

What happened was that after seeing what I did, others started to tell that jackass that he'd have to leave, not them. Started kind of a little movement (and the realization that I was working with sheep). He'd biatch, they'd refuse to move, he'd complain to the boss. The boss, getting tired of the complaints, fired me for starting the problem (it was either me or him, and I had been there for about 6 weeks, he'd been there for over a year).
