90% of American Farkers looked at this headline for a second, realized it was about hockey, and turned back to ESPN for pre-playoff coverage.

For shame subby. While the Kings may be bad, they do have some damn good prospects.

The Leafs, not so much.

Keep on reaching for that rainbow, Toronto.

So, that's where the Lightning scouts ran of to...

Tucci

Leafs are on a tear, and will make it four in a row tonight in Jersey.

3 wins is a tear for only a handful of pathetically bad teams in the NHL. The Leafs are one of them.

Wow, that headline took me waaay too long to figure out. I was thinking something along the line of Boy Scouts and merit badges. Damn you hockey!

No offense to you Maple Leafs and Kings fans. I just chose a bottom team from Canada and the US to even out the snarking.

Yeah? Well my team can kick your teams ass.

Shorthanded.

And blindfolded.

(Which reflects their average performance on the ice)

As soon as the Leafs lost their position as the super-high paid retirement house for middle-aged talent, they went to crap because they started having to recruit players like every other team in the League.

This weekend, the US Pond Hockey tournament was held in Minneapolis. They had a sled hockey division. I wonder if more than 48 total people participate, and if so, how hard it would be to have all the participants on the ice at the same time?

resident_weevil 2008-01-20 08:17:49 PM
Let's see, Habs 24 Stanleys

Leafs, 13

Wings, 10

Sens, 0 (okay okay, 4 geeze) they only took what 60 years off?

Kings, 0

Rag on, looosers.

Link (new window)

/saw them win it in 1967 on TV n glorious flickering Black&White

I feel better knowing that my fav. team has won the Cup in colour.
Leafs Nation = teh lose.

The Toronto Sun had an article in which some Italian grannies called the Leafs are a "cursed team."

I could have told them that.

You see, having taken the GO train at midnight with the mongrel hoarde that is Leaf nation following an early-in-the-season win, and heard the chorus (as if of drunken, mulletted angels) of Leaf fandom, singing that melodious carol of olde: GO LEAFS GO- I can tell you that the Leafs are indeed cursed.

The organization is cursed with a fanbase of forty-something brewery-fattened jock-sniffers whose pantlegs now whiff together when they walk, who get all dewey-eyed and misty thinking of watching Lanny MacDonald and Darryl Sittler on the old black and white Toshiba with dad in the rec room, never stopping once to realize that not only did those storied Leafs of the Seventies and Eighties not win a cup, but that the current roster of aging psychopaths (Tucker) and Frankensinian underachievers (Antropov) and mawkishly sentimental veterans (Sundin) would be lucky to hold a cup of Campbell's Chunky Soup aloft.

I say to Leaf Nation - stop the madness here, in this generation.

I will accept that you're all sentimental morons with more money than brains and will continue to be willing to forgo a month's worth of food to buy a ticket to a game. I get that you'll probably be buried in blue and white, and may even stir briefly from your eternal slumber every spring hence during the first round of the playoffs, much as you do now. But I ask you - think of the children.

If you stop taking them to games ... Stop buying them the jerseys with this month's Mike Palmateer or long-in-the-tooth rent-a-veteran emblazoned on the back, stop ... For the love of God ... publicly displaying that streak of masochism that gave the world Harold Ballard and made Don Cherry's opinions count for something - stop displaying that to the kids, stop shouting at the TV screen like you expeect anything to change, and just urge the kids to take an interest in something less frustrating ... Like Jenga or Federal Politics ...

Then maybe the next generation of GTA youth won't grow up with the same maudlin love of mediocrity, and will stop coming to the games.

And the curse will be lifted, I guarantee.

towatchoverme 2008-01-20 09:33:22 PM
Tucci: not so much lately though, eh?

Let's see ... they last won a cup on my birthday ... and the Leafs before i was born.

I'd say, relative to the Leafs, they've been fine, lately.

tiiger 2008-01-20 11:53:10 PM
Senators, Oilers, and Canucks. Those are the only teams that matter. Well, technically the Winnipeg Jets matter more, but that's because of misplaced pride, not logic.

towatchoverme 2008-01-21 12:20:51 AM
Tucci: What will you do if Quebec seperates? move there.? will P.Q. be allowed by the rest of Canada to take the Habs? or will the Bell Centre be declared sovereign inalienable ground?

I think the REAL question is what will YOU do if aliens from the planet Tralfamador come and zap all the leaf's brains away, leaving tapioca in their skulls?

Wheee ... groundless speculation is FUN.

Magics5RIP 2008-01-21 12:37:20 AM
Tucci: Leafs are on a tear, and will make it four in a row tonight in Jersey.

I'll pull a guesstimate out of my arse and say 5-4 Leafs in SO.

Hmm, wrong again. Silly Leafs fans.

\Go Pens!
