Oh, I liked her. I didn't know she'd married Tom Poston--I'm glad they found each other again.

JacksBlack [TotalFark] 2008-01-20 01:08:39 AM
Suzanne was such a beautiful, talented woman. RIP

But I was thinking recently. When Newhart himself goes, the headline here will be "Bye, Bob."

Too bad. A talented actress, and an incredibly beautiful woman her whole life:

This saddens me. RIP, to a talent and a beauty.

She was wonderfully funny and had a warm presence as an actress. I so love that she and Poston got married late in life and gave each other joy like that.

R.I.P wonderfully talented & beautiful lady. You will be missed.

Mr. Horse 2008-01-20 01:27:59 AM
I'm old, and when I was in college, there was a drinking game called, "Hi, Bob" that had you taking a drink every time someone on the first Newhart show said that line.

She probably jump-started my cirrhosis all by herself.

HornedFrogsFan 2008-01-20 01:29:27 AM
Oh, that is so sad, I really don't know how I can break this to my Father. He always had such a crush on her.

You younger kids might not get the connection.

BTW, SKA_T73 reminded me of how that was one of the greatest finales' ever..in my opinion. Too bad.

Great movies FTW!!

And classy, cigarette-smoking dames.

JacksBlack [TotalFark] 2008-01-20 01:38:04 AM
I remember seeing her in a short-lived sitcom on NBC a few years ago, playing somebody's mother. I hadn't seen her in anything for years. It was a shock, at first. Then, somehow, her character just... grew on me. I didn't even LIKE the character - I don't think you were supposed to, actually. But it didn't matter what she did, you couldn't not appreciate Suzanne Pleshette.

I think, along with Carol Burnett, she pretty much sums up my 70's TV crushes.

swahnhennessy 2008-01-20 01:39:01 AM
She had a sexy voice, although I guess that's where the lung cancer came from, as well.

puftcacc 2008-01-20 01:39:29 AM
On a side note, it's nice to see that Finklestein kid get a good job after getting shipped off to military school.

Dude, isn't that Dawn Wells? Had my first "dream" about Mary Ann.

Teechur 2008-01-20 01:41:42 AM
Hmph. I had to look her up...I thought from the headline that the "I Dream of Jeannie" actress had died.

/oh yeah, that was Barbara Eden

JacksBlack [TotalFark] 2008-01-20 01:42:32 AM
Wait. Lemme add Elizabeth Montgomery and Mary Tyler Moore to my above post.

RIP Ms. Pleshette

/Off my lawn...I liked her too.
//I'm a girl, but of course, I think that she was awesome.
///She did always seem to have the raspy smoker-voice though.
//NTTAWWT, I smoke every once in awhile.
/RIP, Suzanne. I always loved their plaid-looking sheets on The Bob Newhart Show for some reason. I recall that my parents had very similar ones back in the 70's.

~Sorry about all of the slashies, fixin' to go to bed, really :)

She was in "The Birds" with Suzanne Pleshette, but of course you knew that. However, some of the younger folks here may have not.

Oh for Christ's sake I am so sick of older people using this pathetic excuse to make themselves feel better about getting old. I'm 23 and I'm a huge Hitchcock fan.

I'm not saying I'm smarter than you, but I am saying that younger people are smarter than you think.

First thing I thought of, then the first Bob Newhart show.

Other coincidence- Bob's wife on the second show (Mary Frann) died before her time too.

Bob_Laublaw [TotalFark] 2008-01-20 01:54:03 AM
1 - she was gorgeous

2 - she was in one of the most memorable sitcoms ever, and

2 - she appeared in the best sitcom ending of all time

RIP, baby.

/Seriously, I agree. She looked awesome at 70.
//I loved her voice-over on Spirited Away.

Aulus [TotalFark] 2008-01-20 01:55:19 AM
The final episode of "Newhart" just blew me away with its ending.

She was a damn good actress and hitable to the end of her career, at least for us older guys.

In other news, this just points up how lacking most current sitcoms are in terms of both writng and acting talent.

Now get the fark off my lawn...

durty_nacho will go out when he's young & still got "it", like Lupe Velez
I guess it's sorta like Tuesday Weld's reaction to the original title of Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend";
Link (new window)
(but I could only watch T.W. in "Falling Down" goin' "Holy Crap!"-wincing in that Diana Dors in "Deep End" way)
