Florida and alcohol. A combination guaranteed to win a greenlight.

Chik-Fil-A is more expensive than other chains-and worth every penny.

Speaking of which-how's Atlanta for having this very un-PC offshoot of the chain still around?

It's the Chick-Fil-A Dwarf House!

www.fastcasual.com

They even serve hamburgers! So much for "Eat Mor Chikn"

Really, people think Chick-fil-a is that good? Tastes like an average chicken sandwich to me. I guess it's a better chicken sandwich than a McDonald's Cheeseburger is a cheeseburger, but that's not saying a lot. Maybe it's only really good on Sundays.

Girion47 2008-01-20 03:48:03 AM
I can never eat here or Burger King again since I had one on campus. I got soooo tired of their food. was good, but you cant eat it everyday due to lack of other options and expect to enjoy it when you have a real job and car

When it's a day old? I doubt it. (They're closed sunday. Founder's an ultra-fundy.)
I usually just grab their nuggets, I don't go for chicken sandwiches.

Are all of the Chik-Fil-A restaurants closed on Sunday?

Yes. It's one of the rules they pass down from the top. Pretty sure they'd close a franchise for being open on sunday.

They marinate the chicken breast in powdered milk mix, don't know why but it seems to work. The waffle fries are the real winners, those are second only to Thrasher's fries from OCMD, the fried potato product of the gods.

I didn't fight about it, several years ago, but I really wanted to know why Chik-fil-A charged more for "half a pint" of chicken salad than they charged for a "cup."

Their argument was that a half pint was obviously much more than a cup. They kept showing me containers as if that proved something. Four employees, a manager, and six or seven other customers all sided against me and the standard weights & measures used in this country.

I decided that they wouldn't know the $2 bill I had, either, so I left, unserved, before the law had to get involved.

I understand that they've stopped serving chicken salad in anything except a sandwich. I'm relieved that they found a simple solution to this weighty matter.

That is because it is owned and run by a religious fanatic, much in the same way Domino's Pizza is run by a fanatical Catholic billionaire trying to create his own exclusively Catholic town in Florida called Ave Maria. These businesses funnel huge amounts of money into their churches through "charities" front groups.

I love the place. . .last time I went through the drive through, they had a doggie treat for my chocolate lab when i pulled up to the window. I like that they're not open on Sundays, to encourage "family days."

Lew Stool 2008-01-20 04:38:16 AM
There are a couple of Chick-Fil-A restaurants out here in California now, and I have to give a wholehearted "meh" to them. Absolutely ordinary chicken + fundie ownership = FAIL. I'll eat their stuff if somebody else buys, but I wouldn't walk across the street for them myself, let alone the five miles from my office.

For a dry piece of pre-cooked chicken, re-warmed and placed plain on a flimsy bun? I can make that in my kitchen with a microwave for far less cash and it'd taste almost exactly the same.

Yeah there was a Chick-Fil-A on campus and I got sick of them pretty quickly. I'm not sure if it was just because they were on campus but the selection was pretty limited. The chicken sandwiches had nothing but a pickle on them. Pretty boring really.

I never got the chance to try their food. Walked into one of their stores at opening time (with a coupon for a free sandwich) and all the employees were holding hands and asking in jesus' name for...I don't have a clue. Freaked me out, as does all public displays of religion. I've also heard that at one time, they were putting a news letter from Focus on the Family on trays and in bags. No thank you, Chick Fil A. I focus on my own family, not yours.

better than C.A.I.R. funneling money to buy AK47s and suicide bomb vests. Why do people have a problem with Christian "extremists" but not Muslim extremists?

lostcat 2008-01-20 06:15:32 AM
The chicken is cooked in a pressure cooker, making it more tender than the chicken at other places. The only condiment they put on the sandwich is dill slices.

I liked them as a kid (when I lived in the Midwest), but compared to the actual food options available in a place like San Francisco, it's just another Fundie-supporting, mass-farmed chicken sandwhich to me.

/Won't eat at In-and-Out either. Better burgers at family-owned places (Smokehouse, Big Al's) and the fries are nothing to write home about. Plus, not supporting Fundie freaks.

I love Chick-Fil-A however I refuse to go to them anymore. The last time I did I rode my Motorcycle through the drive-thru.(like i always do) And the guy in the window told me motorcycles arent allowed through the Drive-thru anymore. they are afraid of people on them reaching in and robbing the cash register. This was AFTER he had taken my money. I asked to see a manager(holding up queue) and he told me the same thing, at which point I handed him back my chicken sandwich (with deep regrets) and asked for my money back. and have never been there again.

/I eat at checkers anymore, they are not Ignorant.

My little town has a "fast food row" of three restaurants: McDonalds, Chic-fil-a and Dairy Queen.

It's understood that McDonalds will only hire blacks, Chic-fil-a will only hire whites, and DQ gets the Hispanics (and Indians, of course).

Really? I work as a contractor at Chick-Fil-A's headquarters. I've been there off and on for years. Never met a nutcase yet.

* Agnostic...not Christian
* Place does have a nice, peaceful vibe about it. Yes..there ARE bells out front playing Christian themed "bell music" and sounding the time. Better than playing canned elevator MUZAC, it's oddly relaxing.
* Truett does donate to a LOT of money to charity. Making sure there are enough profits to meet their commitments is a high priority among the staff. I can think of much worse priorities being pushed in corporate America.
* People who work there do not push religion, just very nice people.
* Truett Cathy is really funny when he speaks but never, in YEARS, have I heard him say one word about Christ. He does love selling his oranges and his vintage cars.
* One of the best places to work in Atlanta...After working with some of the scumbags you meet in business they are a refreshing change.

Just pisses me off when I hear of nice folks running a pretty honest business attacked with slurs like the one above.

Chic-Fil-A is the closest fast food to my campus, and it is expensive, but damn, chic-n-minis taste awesome for breakfast. (little chicken nuggets in little biscuits. Their sandwiches are good. They keep it basic and once you add mayo, its great tasting. The nuggets and chicken strips are really good as are the waffle fries. Of course, now that we have a thread on sunday, I'm gonna be wanting some of the food today thanks a lot!

The fundie bit doesn't bother me as long as I don't see it.

Chick-Fil-A huh.. I won't eat there. If I wanted expensive chicken, Zaxby's is better in every way, and cheaper as well. If I wanted fast food, the other chains have the entire menu covered, and usually for half the price of Chick-Fil-A.

Chick-Fil-A: Expensive, plain, (decent quality, but horrible on value)

It's up there next to it's sister berg "Polly Esther".

One other question: is it me or does it seem like everyone in Florida get automatically charged with a felony, every time they run afoul of the law?

I worked for them as a teenager (first job).

A couple of things... milominderbinder is right about the corporate atmosphere, at least when i worked there. i was a punk / skater and didn't go to church.

after you worked there a couple of years you could get a small scholarship for college ($1000 at the time?). better than most fast food joints anyway.

the owner and assistant managers were all christian to varying degrees. i'd say about half the people at those stores were practicing christians of some type but it wasn't something that ever came up in the course of work.

we did give out focus on the family propaganda in the kid meals sometimes. for a while we had cassette story tapes. made excellent blanks haha...

the chicken filets were homemade from plain frozen whole breasts (not reformed like the old McChickens or whatever).

the fried sandwich wasn't marinated that i remember but was dipped in fresh milk and egg wash, then dipped in the breading that had a good deal of pepper and some other spices.

the grilled sandwiches were marinated with a seasoning package that contains spices and i believe yeast. Added to this was water, pickle juice, and maybe something else.

the chicken salad was made with fried chicken that was unsold for too long and/or newly fried up for c.s. this is pretty common at most resturaunts (monday's special is tuesday's soup).

the official holding time for the hot chicken is very short, so if you ever get a sandwich that seems old or reheated, you might ask them to make you a fresh one.

a trick is to ask for no pickles (say you're allergic). at least you won't get a sandwich that's sitting a long time. the pickles add to the flavor though :)
and it will only work with the fried sandwich (see above about marinade).

about the only things that weren't homemade at that time was the chicken soup and the biscuits.

the end....
