If she'd backed Hillary, she'd be a traitor to her race. The woman can't win

She has a right to back whomever she wishes to.

and people have a right to buy into her brand or not.

I don't care either way, as she never gave me a free car.

I dislike entertainers endorsing candidates because there are too many dim bulbs who can not differentiate between an actor and the roles he plays.

I'm a washed-up celebrity who endorsed Dennis Kucinich because he has a hot wife, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

I remember back in 2000, when one candidate was behind his opponent by 10% in most polls in September, and his appearance on Oprah's shows did wonders for his White House bid.

I dislike celebutards who don't speak up on political issues because they don't want to offend anybody.

Think: Britney "We should just trust the President" Spears.

Those folk offend the farkin' shiat out of me.

I also dislike folks who think that a celebrity shouldn't voice their opinion specifically because they are a celebrity.

Any citizen has a right to speak their mind.

Of course, if they are absolute idiots other folks have the right to laff at them.

Nay, a RESPONSIBILITY to laff at them.

Thanx to the World Wide Web even Canadians can stick our nosy parker noses into the bidness of American politics.

Praise be to Jebus!

On Topic?

File this one under "Who didn't see this one coming?"

Makes her stance seem a lot more brave than it initially did.

Barack and Oprah both live in Chicago and they both attend the same church.

Oprah has NEVER endorsed a candidate before.

People who decry her as being a sista denying sexist are as stupid as folks who would be calling her a self loathing black woman if she endorsed Shrillary.

Obama aint the best black man for the job.

He simply the best person for the job. Period.

Hillary is still a better choice than anything the GOPhers have to offer but Quatchi would theoretically vote fer a released Charles Manson or a Chia Pet before any of that lot.

Fer real.

Asura-HiME: Oprah? involved in politics? It's more likely I'll sense epic fail sooner or later.

More likely she'll end up getting some cushy position somewhere- maybe a state senator/representative, maybe congresswoman, possibly mayor/governor. I could see Oprah trying to start a political career eventually (leading on to a presidential/VP run in, say, 15 to 20 years) but I doubt she would get elected.

What I'm really worry about is that she has the power to blend private and public, her traditional strength according to many of her fans. Mixing that with politics? I'll pass that.

I'm not even sure what the hell you mean by "blending private and public". I doubt she can erode privacy rights in America much more than the usual crop of authoritarians in Washington have been.

Man, the idea that someone is a "traitor" because they don't endorse a candidate who happens to share their gender is just insane. The fact that they've made the candidates naughty bits the most important factor in voting should automatically disqualify them from voting. And speaking when the grown-ups are talking.

Obama's like a member of a boy band created by committee. The U.S. may not have invented the boy band, but we darn sure perfected it. The least offensive front man Oprah and her kind could find. (You do know that Oprah and Obama attended the same black separatist church?)

No real accomplishment, not a whole lot of capitalistic success in a Capitalist society. Wants to be an executive, but we don't know if he can manage a fruit stand. He merely has an insatiable hunger for power. An almost autistic devotion to the quest for power. Perfect form over function. He's malleable. Something for everyone. An icon for the disenfranchised or the guilty. He's just appearances and a smidgen of perceivable talent as well as an adherence to a form. A true Messianic form, to save us from the perceived Hell of G.W. Bush and white male domination. Salvation in the guise of the "Oppressed Black Man" who's coming for dinner. And this one doesn't eat chitterlings.

Obama can shuck and jive and talk about the "AUDACITY OF HOPE," but we're not sure he can play an instrument or write songs or come to think of it, really even sing without technical assistance. But does this even matter is this age of the mass constructed cult of personality? We made Obama. As we made Oprah. An Oprah and Obama pairing is pure genius. A marriage made in Public Relations heaven.

But is he merely a construct of the powers that be? Sent to salve our Bush wounds? Sent to tell us "everything gonna be alright."

Time will tell if he becomes a Marky Mark or a Bobby Brown or that guy you almost remember from Menudo.

We didn't make Obama. I've spent the last couple of days reading The Audacity of Hope, and he really is an incredible man and an incredible thinker. He'll be the first major candidate of my life that I can vote for and feel good about it in the general elections.

Rethorn 2008-01-20 05:58:04 AM
Hey, I have an idea. Lets create a system where we vote for a person based on the content of the character, and not the content of their pants or the color of their skin, okay?

/Really, really hates people
//Misanthropic for most of his life because of shiat like this
///Still voting for Obama because all he has left is hope
////Lives in MI, though, so the Michigan Democratic Party kinda screwed him on that.
/Slashies still love me, though.

It appears that Ron Paul's philosophy is the only one that is naturally antithetical to such notions as race or gender loyalty. He spoke at length about it. People in America are obsessed with identifying themselves and others in terms of group identity instead of individuals.

Women who are voting for Hillary, because she is a woman, or African Americans who are voting for Obama because he happens to have black skin... should not be voting.

Personally I support Obama because I have read Hillary's and Obama's plans for the nation (you can find them at their web sites). And Hillary's plans are terrible in comparison to Obama's. It is irrational to force all people to purchase Health Insurance from a private company without also providing regulations to protect those consumers from the malfeasance of the health insurance industry.

I think a female President would be a good thing, but not her.

AntiNerd 2008-01-20 10:50:23 AM
Women who are voting for Hillary, because she is a woman, or African Americans who are voting for Obama because he happens to have black skin... should not be voting.

And why not? I don't have any numbers, but I can guarantee you there will be millions of people who will be voting for the Republican for no other reason than he is the white male in the race.

I prefer my endorsements to be of the old fashioned kind: Large sums of money paid into candidates of both parties to ensure that laws, rules and regulations which favor specific companies or interests even if it harms a lot of people.

I'm kind of a traditionalist that way.

It's stupid to root for someone just based on their race or their gender. I'm a woman and I wouldn't vote for Hillary just based on the fact that she's female. This is a critical time for our country and who we vote for to run the country for the next few years should take more research into what they will do to help rather than a cursory glance at what they look like.

Oprah can't really cut it in any political sense. The woman cannot relate to anybody outside of money and fame. What is she doing to do when she's posted to someplace like Saudi Arabia and can't buy a sheik a new car or doesn't take kindly to her politically-correctness about women's rights? At the least, she's an embarrassment. At the most, she's a loser who knows nothing but instant gratification and hiding her lesbian tendencies.

Chances are she'll have a pointless post on a cabinet and be casually forgotten during real business.
