I'd be interested if they were 3rd graders. 7th grade is young to be drunk, but it's not unheard of.

Aw, come on now, it is hard work being a 7th grader these days.

I did that in the seventh grade. Stolen booze from our friend's father's liquor cabinet.

The hangover at 11:00 am pretty much taught us to wait until afternoon to get drunk on stolen booze again.

Moderately well adjusted adult now with no noticeable ill effects, ill effects, ill effects *smack*

ahhh memories. There's nothing worse than a 5th period hangover.

If you drink in the morning drink a few at lunch to at least get you through the rest of the day. Amateurs.

I didn't say there wasn't a learning curve involved. I've learned alot since then, and now I stay sober during the week and just catch up by consuming a weeks worth of alcohol on Friday night. :)

/Of course back in 7th grade my slightly drunk ass was much better off than the cool kids that were dropping acid in homeroom.

The primary thing I learned about alcohol when I was in Junior High was that Peppermint Schnapps is not an adequate substitute for vodka when making screwdrivers.

When you're that young, you can convince your friend that eating the fruit floating in the Everclear won't do anything at all to you.

OK, maybe just a little older, but still good times ...

We were kind of slow and didn't do this until eighth grade. On
the other hand, we didn't get caught. Kids these days. Sheesh.

It's very likely that they raided their parents' liquor cabinets.

Back when I was in 7th grade, a neighbor girl showed up at school while drunk at least 3 times. The principal, knowing how crappy her home life was & that she would be beaten with a doubled up leather belt if her dad found out, instructed the school nurse to put her to bed in the nurse's office & let her sleep it off. Her parents kept their liquor under the kitchen sink. There wasn't any kind of child protective services or programs that would have helped her back then as they didn't even exist. This was back when a child was thrown into juvie for running away from home, even if they were running away because they were abused. A runaway was treated just like any other juvenile criminal.

As a former resident of both Florida and Minnesota ( now residing in Nevada, and no I don't like normal places, obviously) I have to suggest that Minnesota is trying extra hard as of late to earn it's own state tag like Florida has. Jealousy, perhaps?

Well, when it's -10 deg F and you're waiting for the bus, how else are you supposed to stay warm? Nothing wrong with a little wool blanket in a bottle on those chilly mornings.

Came here to say pretty much the same thing everyone else has... Young, sure, but most kids were also smoking bud and f***in' by 7th grade in my school, and it wasn't even in a "bad" area.

ravenlore [TotalFark] 2008-01-20 12:09:35 PM
Yep. 7th grade is a tad young, but by 9th grade the trunk of my car was full of booze every Saturday night. And I grew up to be a reasonably productive member of society.

But you know, it's not like Spring Lake Park is rural by any stretch of the imagination. My peers and I drank because there was nothing else to do. These kids can't claim boredom as a defense.

Our 8th grade end of school year trip was cancelled because so many students had their stomachs pumped after a ski club trip.

Good times, good times.

Wait a second - isn't 9th grade a little bit on the young side for driving? Or did you take a victory lap or two in highschool?

Methinks that the booze may have had more of an impact on you than you realize.

That being said, I'm not even going to bother pretending that I'm shocked by the idea of young kids drinking.

I'm from South Dakota. At that time a person could get a restricted minor license at 14.

Well to be perfectly fair, anyone with such a license was not to drive after 8 PM; to do so was ticketable...maybe even suspendable.

Didn't stop anyone.
