So....why aren't the bubbles rising?

majestykelf: So....why aren't the bubbles rising?

I think they are spinning? Not around the center, but... Tumbling? Turning themselves inside out.
That might provide enough resistance for them to just kinda float like that.
Like a smoke ring in water.
Anyone else smarter than me care to explain?

One of those dolphins looks disturbingly like Don Knotts.

Maxgasm 2008-01-20 01:25:54 AM
What I think would be cool, is of they train the dolphins to smoke cigarettes. Hence, underwater smoke rings. Yeah!!!

Kirkenhegelstein 2008-01-20 02:16:21 AM
Coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Music sucked, tho. Huzzah mute buttons.

They seem happy. All the food they could need and no predators...

I've seen smokers do the same with smoke.

It looks like the dolphin is using its "sonar" to control the ring, pushing it thru thr water and preventing it from going up. Probably started by a fart but at least one likes it and can do it better.

Dolphins spend their lives swimming. playing and farking. Remind me- who's the intelligent species?

He's trying to convince us he's intelligent enough to be let free.

wrrshiper 2008-01-20 10:49:32 AM
I just read that the Japanese are still hunting them. I didn't realize that the Japanese hate water rings that much.

Christ, why does Fark whore itself out to retard headlines like that. Even sites that tolerate selective racism like Fark can have some standards.

The comments are interesting as well:

Dolphins may be mental/spiritual beings, with each sub-brain acting as a quantum computer, and both of them together interacting, through interference, to give a perspective Dolphin vision of the Many-Worlds by acting like a device designed by Andrew Gray.

Selective racism?

Various Japanese individuals and organizations regularly hunt and kill cetaceans. Subby's joke was playing off this fact. I fail to see any such "racism." Baka schmuck.

Interesting choice of music. "No One is Alone" from Into the Woods. Yay Sondheim.

That's possibly the dumbest thing I have read on fark.

ssrat 2008-01-20 12:13:37 PM
I am even MORE amazed that they can cut down the rings to SMALLER rings.
Even scarier would be if that one dolphin made that "infinity loop" on porpoise

Glass Joe 2008-01-20 12:37:18 PM
So hot.

ZurkisPhreek 2008-01-20 12:37:53 PM
Basically, they do the same with the water, that we do with smoke rings. We create a circular vortex that can sustain its shape, as long as there is still enough kinetic energy in the vortex.

Same with the dolphins, but the technique they use allows them much greater control. I don't think I could ever do something like that with a smoke ring.

What's really cool is the way they break off little pieces of the ring and re-energize them. Didn't one of them do it like 3 times from one surface circle? Looks so sweet!

ssrat: Even scarier would be if that one dolphin made that "infinity loop" on porpoise

I see what you did there, trés cool!

vodka 2008-01-20 02:38:49 PM
While cool, humans can do it too so it's not all that special.

They definitely seem to have higher than normal intelligence though. When was they last time your dog did something like that?

Not even close to human intelligence though.
