Meh, give that one to PS3. They need the games. What would the rampages be like: Kill 20 hoseheads in 60 seconds?

They had it in the car theft capital of Canada. Important detail.

I thought it was funny but I don't live in a city that requires you to have an ignition immobilizer thingy in your car or they won't insure you.

What about those Ford Fusion commercials showing different "types" of Ford owners? ... one seems to be speeding and driving wrecklessly through what is probably a school zone, and all of them seem a little dangerous, perpetually having to drive fast to get to their destinations.

Since I'm a Pegger myself, I'll clarify.

They will pay for the cost of the installation of an immobilizer by giving you a rebate off your insurance.
It is not mandatory.

I'm rather pissed at Ford anyway. They have shiatty customer service, especially concerning stuff like warranty services and recalls. Cheap bastards.

On a side note, I doubt many car thieves would have much luck right now, since the cold weather has made calling CAA in the evening to schedule a boost in the morning a routine for probably half the city this week.

Also, what self respecting car thief steals a ford?

Actually, thinking about it, Winnipeg car thieves probably think a Ford Windstar is a cadillac.

Thank you; its nice to know I'm not the only one that noticed that. It's as if the ad campaign is "You don't have to drive a really expensive car to drive like an asshole; a Ford will due nicely!" WTF?

/don't get me started on the new cadillac ads

Manitoba doesn't allow private car insurance.
It's Government run auto insurance.

Ok both adds are dumb, but that sounds like an obvious joke while the "driving like you stole it" sounds like encouragement to act like a douche.

They even have the website driveitlikeyoustoleit.com (new window)

Actually, it IS mandatory [required by law] for some cars: the High Risk / Most-at-risk Vehicles. [ie. 1995 Dodge Neon]
It is not mandatory for moderate risk [just "recommended"], or low risk ones.
You got the rest right, though. :-)
[via. the MPI web site, "Most-At-Risk Vechiles need an immobilizer" "do you need an immobilizer" yellow/blue link on their main page]

It's quite cheap, and the best part of it is: They don't discriminate based upon your age or gender. Your insurance varies upon your driving record, and the make of car you own, not based upon the average of what your particular demographics risk is. And as a male aged 16-24, I can tell you, I save a shiatload of money by not being discriminated against on my car insurance policies.

Also, you can buy supplemental insurance from private firms in Manitoba, to reduce your deductible cost.

Being only slightly older and male, that would be great for me.

The most stolen vehicles are Hondas and Toyotas, due to resale value and reliability.

Poor Ford, resorting to trying to get their vehicles stolen to get street cred.

I dunno it's a toss up. Canada has better skiing, more wildlife, the northern lights, and less traffic while Mexico has some really killer food, better beaches, cheap property, and exploding volcanoes just for fun.

Mighty nice being stuck in the middle I suppose.

To be perfectly honest, after seeing that recently, I recall saying to a friend, "What a horrible idea for an advertising strategy."
I thought it a bit pathetic. Good to see they pulled it.

They're just appealing to their staunch white trash base. F-150? Mustang? Monster truck rally and double the amount of kids you can afford/nurture? Ford loves you.

semiotix 2008-01-20 01:15:39 AM
Shishkani: I'm rather pissed at Ford anyway. They have shiatty customer service...

Don't worry, that will dramatically improve as Ford continues to whittle its customer base down to a more manageable number. By the time they've reached their target of 800 people worldwide driving Fords, you'll have a team of customer service representatives assigned to you around the clock.

overlord 2008-01-20 01:23:10 AM
It's ok, I hear they're changing it to "drive it like you carjacked it". Problem solved.

So sad.

born_yesterday: don't get me started on the new cadillac ads

Well, so far there's been ONE Cadillac ad that I really, really liked. I think it was advertising the STS, maybe DTS.

The one that replaced it, advertising the Cadillac Suburban, oops I mean Escalade, is nowhere near as good. The woman in the STS/DTS ad just freakin' smoldered, the new one comes off cold. They're trying to make up for it by giving her a thick accent. I'm sure someone, somewhere is having a pacemaker installed over it, but she does nothing for me.

I'll never buy a Caddy (if I was going to plunk down that much cash I'd rather get an Elise, Corvette, or something similar), but the woman in that old ad... wow...

I have friends that put on those very bumper stickers as if I need something else to read while driving and looking at your bumper sticker car's clad ass. We don't hang out much.

The make or model of vehicle matters not. Sorry to hear that our "friends" need stickers to decide things. That was soooo scratch N sniff from the 70s.
