Too bad there are not enough people from England posting, otherwise we'd get colorful individuals telling us how it's the fault of pakis, unrestricted immigration and it's time for people to start voting with Britain's interests first and that Nick Griffin didnd't mean these things and it's all slander instead

But no, none of these, yet too many paulites.

British White Nationalists are so much more colorful and interesting.

eqtworld: could you get arrested in the UK for having a pocket knife on you?

Depends on the size and circumstances. I've never known any adult carry a knife for protection over here.

I'm a big fan of the Ken Onion assisted openers myself, used to carry a Chive but moved to a mini Leatherman now.

Yes, because desiring to have BNPers around so we can mock them mercilessly really makes me an asshole.

I'm sorry I offend your skin patriots, dude.

Tatsuma: But no, none of these, yet too many paulites.

What's a paulite? Most readers of the Daily Telegraph would like to see the three teenage killers in the article locked up and the key thrown away, I'm inclined to agree with them.

The paper seems to have poo-poo'd it's own article by the last paragraph... A Home Office spokesman said: "There is no evidence that the number of violent crimes committed by young people is increasing. The rise in cautions and convictions represents better enforcement and an improved criminal justice response to violent crime."

Tatsuma [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 09:39:45 PM
In fact, while I'm talking about the BNP/British Far-Right

Young, Nazi and Proud

It's a Channel 4 documentary on the Youth Wing of the notoriously racist BNP, and it revolves around on the president, Mark.

It's 50 minutes, and it's very very interesting. It's especially scary how some of these guys, when they tone down the racial talks in public, can be charismatic. Especially when you see them "let loose" when they are amongst their own or think that no cameras are filming

While the BNP denies any violence, there has been a sharp rise in the recent years of attacks on immigrants from groups "not associated", wink wink, nudge nudge, close to the BNP

Same here

Not really. The Home Office? Should have been renamed the Ministry of Truth a long time ago.

Tatsuma [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 09:46:16 PM
And yes, yes I know, the Ministry of Truth is based on Orwell's experiences with the BBC, not on the Home Office. My point is that the Home Office engages in spin that would make American lobbyists blush, not that they control the media.

steevmit 2008-01-19 09:54:06 PM
Tatsuma: Not really. The Home Office? Should have been renamed the Ministry of Truth a long time ago.

The last paragraph does contradict the rest of the article, literary analogies aside. And if the Monster Raving Loonies ever win the national election they would probably rename it the Ministry of Silly Walks. Some of their interesting policies include: -

* Refusing to sign up to the euro, but inviting the rest of Europe to join the pound.
* Drivers can go straight over a roundabout when there's no traffic coming "to make driving through Milton Keynes more fun".
* Traffic cops "too stupid" for normal police work to be retrained as vicars.
* Withdrawal of MPs' £118,000 expenses allowance, and the money "in future be distributed to the poor and needy so that they can waste it instead."
* Any MP whose constituency sells off a school playing field for development will be required to relinquish their own back garden as a replacement sports facility for the school.
* All motorways to become massive cycle tracks instead
* All speed cameras will be abolished and replaced by a new device fitted to cars which will automatically slow down to the speed limit when driven though an infra-red beam.
* The introduction of a 99p coin to "save on change".

I much prefer the Canadian Rhinoceros Party, though

Platform promises of the Rhinoceros Party included:

* Repealing the law of gravity
* Providing higher education by building taller schools
* Instituting English, French and illiteracy as Canada's three official languages
* Tearing down the Rocky Mountains so that Albertans could see the Pacific sunset
* Making Montreal the Venice of North America by damming the St. Lawrence River
* Abolishing the environment because it's too hard to keep clean and it takes up so much space
* Annexing the United States, which would take its place as the third territory, after the Yukon and the Northwest Territories in Canada's backyard, in order to eliminate foreign control of Canada's natural resources
* Ending crime by abolishing all laws
* Adopting the British system of driving on the left; this was to be gradually phased in over five years with large trucks and tractors first, then buses, eventually including small cars and bicycles last
* Putting the national debt on Visa
* Painting Canada's coastal sea limits in watercolour so that Canadian fish would know where they were at all times
* Banning guns and butter, since both kill
* Renaming the country Nantucket

steevmit: I wasn't aware the assault rate was high, but if I lived in a particularly dangerous society I would carry something similar. With a freaking laser beam on the top.

It's the same thing in Canada, too. You can't walk around with a knife in your pockets for self-defense. So, basically, if you get assaulted and defend yourself with the knife, fending away the attacker, and you answer "for self-defense" when the cops ask you why you were carrying a knife, you might spend some time in jail.

Tatsuma: I much prefer the Canadian Rhinoceros Party, though

I just finished a Jeremy Clarkson book where he pointed out that countries don't fall apart when the politicians are on holiday, others actually run the country and infrastructure. And have done for hundreds of years. So by democratically voting for them we encourage the proliferation of new laws otherwise they would have little do do.

I think you will find this is more to do with police statistic gathering, rather than an actual rise. The police have been under a lot of pressure to be seen to be doing more, so they respond by arresting and cautioning more people who they would have in the past deal with by having a word, or getting them to apologise.

Police officers have complained for years that they have turned into paper pushers, and this is the result, a lot of paper.

That was the most frightening thing about Hitler. Not his extreme ideas, or the way he left his mark on history, but the sheer charisma of the little man.

Maybe it takes balls to resist using violence as a youth, or the state education system in UK isn't teaching Nadsat properly.

I'd guess the latter.

we've had people claiming bnp membership on fark, tatsuma. you probably didn't notice them because they didn't criticize israel. in fact, you might be surprised how the people you routinely attempt to slur as anti-semites when they take you to task, were the same people who took them to task. actually, the bnp posters reminded me of you in many ways - they were deeply racist, believed in the need for a country where their heritage was the most important thing, and were blind to the truth. otoh, they were different from you because they got bored of trying to distort the truth

doesn't actually care about mocking british white supremacists. he was trying to twist a weekend main-page thread into an attack on the american presidential candidate ron paul. he doesn't like paul because paul is asking the american republican voters to question the way that lobbying groups influence american policy (one of the major lobbying groups is very much aligned with tatsuma's ideology). to that end he has a whole load of propaganda that he is trying to insert wherever possible

GIS "knife wounds" and see if you still believe that. Knives are excellent defensive and offensive weapons and can generally be readied quicker than most sidearms.

This is a pretty good video to watch, it's a little over the top at times, but it's pretty dead on otherwise. Unarmed knife defense is a martial arts myth. (new window)

that's all very well if you've had training, but idiots carrying weapons they don't know how to use are just as dangerous as the people they're 'defending themselves' against. if somebody puts a knife to your face and asks for your wallet, would you really be able to fend him off with your own knife? i reckon you'd more likely get yourself killed. and if a group of drunk teenagers start mouthing off, you're gonna scare them away with your pocket knife? or stab them all? good one. jackass.

According to This the assault rate is surprisingly high, but a bit less than the US, interesting how the English-speaking countries are all fairly similar. As a Brit I must take solace in the fact that the murder rate is pretty low though.

*Sigh* Did you watch the video? Fighting against someone armed with a knife is stupid. If someone pulls a knife on you the best defense is running. But...in a life or death situation, being armed with a knife is better than being unarmed.

And if you're looking for a good knife to carry, Emerson makes some very nice ones. And they're easy to ready.

I've been reading a lot about the BNP and other White Nationalist movements in Britain, and I thought I'd add this to the conversation.

You'd think that people would be happy I wouldn't go the easy way and start talking about the rise of violence against Jews from certain ethnic and religious groups, but no, I get shiat for talking about the violence surrounding the BNP instead
