GOP senators drive state vehicles that average 19 mpg compared with the Democrats' 30 mpg, the survey found. Republicans also chose cars that cost nearly $3,000 more on average. Assembly Republicans, at 24 mpg, get 6 mpg less than Democrats and picked cars that cost nearly $4,000 more

I, for one, am shocked and appalled by this.

Why is CA paying for car leases for legislators?

Because they voted it for themselves?

Because the legislators voted a heaping helping for themselves?

When it comes to partisan driving, Republican lawmakers lag Democrats in both fuel efficiency and fiscal restraint.

GOP senators drive state vehicles that average 19 mpg compared with the Democrats' 30 mpg, the survey found. Republicans also chose cars that cost nearly $3,000 more on average. Assembly Republicans, at 24 mpg, get 6 mpg less than Democrats and picked cars that cost nearly $4,000 more -- although the state caps its costs.

RE:Why is CA paying for car leases for legislators?

I think we pay for their lunches, trips, if they get up off their asses and come in to work they can punch the clock and leave for the day with bonus pay. No matter how bad the state budget is they vote themselves a raise every chance they get.

Indeed, subby's attempted spin is full of fail.

He represents Oakland, not Palo Alto. You think his constituents would respect him if he drove a Prius? Obviously they thought the Charger was bas-ass enough to steal. The guys who stole it will probably vote for him.

19 mpg and $3,000 more on average... Sounds like republicans just buy more cars from american companies.
