haha, foiled by the filter. If you put in a string of numbers matching a credit card format, Fark filters it. Mine is **** **** **** ****.

Good way to misrepresent the article, subby. Try "improperly secured networks and bribery increase identity thedt."

Of course, as the rate of bribery and the poor security of Gov. networks remain a constant, than the expansion of databases like that associated with the real id program will lead to an increased crime, identity theft, voter fraud.

His post appears to hvae been zapped, but if it's the same one kidsizedcoffin quoted, I don't think he has anything to worry about...

(Mostly 'cause I don't think that's a real credit card number. What with the whole "Numerical ordeR" bit.)

Voter fraud? Since most states require only the bare minimum ID to register and vote for the first time now, I don't see how a photo ID could cause more fraud. The ACLU and others will make sure that a photo ID requirement or some sort of government electronic-stripped card is ever allowed near the election process.

As far as big 21st century changes to the system such as using the internet to vote, a bill was currently entered into the House to require states to use PAPER ballots along with any electronic voting machines, etc. Yeah, the future of voting is now.

Incoherent rambling by a mouth-breathing idiot.

The only people against national ID are terrorists, criminals, illegal aliens, and the tinfoil hat crowd.

It is a fake number, and the one he use, they don't issue credit cards with that number, that is the number that a lot of the companies use for showing cards in their commercials. It would be like posting a phone number starting with 555.

Identity theft occurs because we've built a system in which one's identity is proven through the exchange of "secret" information between two parties. The problem with this system is that the rich, powerful, well-connected, and criminal can obtain this information with little effort and use it for their own devices. The fix to this problem is not to devise new and more complex ways to keep this information private but to develop a system where the information is useless to all except the owner.

TheGreyPiper 2008-01-19 10:01:42 PM
There's only one solution: implanted microchips.

I'm working on the implant. So far it only works as a suppository.

That might solve the problem once and for all and we cant have that.

My bank account number is 007 373 5963.

It's about to have a few million in it because I'm helping a guy from Nigeria move money out of the country due to political instability.

I think that should have been filtered to **** **** **** ****. Guess I'm glad I didn't put my real number, or are the mods filtering manually?

Submitter did misrepresent the article, and I can tell this without RTFA.

I think this is BS. Let's see... **** **** **** ****.

Obscure 2008-01-20 12:40:09 AM
I don't think subby grievously misrepresented. Photo IDs are the product of large government databases, and the article is essentially saying that large databases are inherently vulnerable, because they only need to have a very small percentage of failure to have catastrophic results.

/How YOU doing, UK?

Toy_Cop: 1353 1679 8710 4796 8790

you've got too many numbers and most major credit cards are coded by common digits in the first 8 places. For instance, all mastercards start with ****, and all citbank cards have **** as the next 4 numbers. Generally, only the last 8 numbers are unique. try again with the right number and it will work.

Like this: **** **** **** **** exp 09/08

Noam_D_Plume 2008-01-20 12:50:15 AM
Oops, looks like the date doesn't get starred out... eh, useless anyway without the number.

Your link is broken!

Is there a website I can go to check it out? Maybe with an extra form to check the verification number on the back as well.

/no, not really
