Hell yes, hot steamy farker action..

Crap, and I already promised myself not to go outside today. I guess we'll see...

Still 8 p.m. right?

Sounds like a decent turnout. CaptainJose has us down for 30 people based on the survey from the previous thread. Hope no one goes soft because of a little cold weather. After all, half their staff is in their seventies or eighties and they'll make it into work. The least we can do is make it worth their while.

As a former Minnesotan, I would really like to be there, and especially at Nye's. Have fun.

8bit4life [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 05:24:05 PM
I'm trying to decide if I should bus or drive. If I bus, I'll have to wait 15 minutes outside in the cold. If I drive, I can't drink as much...decisions, decisions...are people actually going to show up at 8?

ravenlore [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 05:25:31 PM
Wow, that was an easy green. Yay me.

I will be there. I may not drink much, and I might not close the place down, but I'll be there.

I'm struggling with the same decision. I think I'm going to bus. just in case I decide to drink. I'm planning on being there between 8 & 8:30.

I'm thinking about driving up, but I have to take care of a few things first.

If there is one thing I hate it's a numb bone.

/But a numb bone is still a bone. Which is nice.

How embarrassing. You must knock over a lot of end tables.

Nye's is one of the most surreal places I have ever been. It's like being in the movie Fargo, only with more polka and a few more hipsters.

DistendedPendulusFrenulum 2008-01-19 05:42:22 PM
While you guys are there, you can discuss whether DistendedPendulusFrenulum should move to Minneapolis.

/Is Nye's anything like The Odessa?

.

marklar 2008-01-19 05:42:22 PM
I plan on being there around 9ish, according to the bus situation. Does anyone live in south minneapolis and maybe want to split a cab or something?

Ikam 2008-01-19 05:43:01 PM
Have fun leaving the house. Isn't it about -8F or so up there today?

I know here in Chicago it is about 2F out. I just got back from the grocery store (which is a 1/2 mile walk from my apartment) and my toes are just now going from numb to 'damn that hurts' and I've been indoors for 1/2 an hour.

VOCSL5 2008-01-19 05:45:00 PM
Yeah, the wind chill is -30 or so, but all you need for a party evening a hood, a badass jacket, and a 2nd layer of pants... maybe wool socks too.
My only true deterrent is the SO. They really, really don't want to go. But they don't want me to have to wait for the bus in this weather.

Help me convince the hermit to get us there!
/or at least drop me off and come get me when I call ;)

British 2008-01-19 05:49:33 PM
It is cold in the twin cities today. I made the dumb decision to hit Mystic Lake last night. Almost -10 on the ride home.

Some certainly will, but I'd guess the bulk should be getting there around 9. I won't be there until around 10, but that's because !@#$ work called me in to work a few hours tonight.

ravenlore: Wow, that was an easy green. Yay me.

I submitted this about two minutes after you did. My fail, let me show you it.

uhhh, quick question...how will I know where the farkers are?

Why is it that I live in an area where there are never any Fark parties?

/No, I will not set one up in the near future.
//I'm currently too lazy, and will soon be too busy with the start of my spring semester with two graduate level mathematics/statistics/useful application for statistic classes and studying so I can redo my oral exam to get my farking master degree.

Rex_Everything [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 06:01:43 PM
man, I'd like to go. But with a two week old baby at home. I'm not sure the Mrs. will give me a pass

We are in the reservation book under Fark party, I believe, so staff should be able to point you in the right direction. Also, CaptainJose said he'd be bringing name tags and perhaps a small sign. I wish he'd pop into this thread, though.

A master's degree in farking.

And it's peer-reviewed.

I'd love to go and meet some of you guys. I don't think the misses will oblige.

Twilightzero [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 06:18:32 PM
I'll be there and I'm bringing a few extras from the Rochester crowd. For additional insanity, I've also invited a few people from a car club I belong to although it's debatable how many people from there will actually come. Rochester crew leaving in a few!

Raging Thespian [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 06:19:04 PM
Hmm... Clearly I haven't been checking the party threads often enough. I'll try to be there around 10-ish.

8bit4life [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 06:24:15 PM
I am a little nervous, as I've never gone to a bar without knowing people. Farkers are nice, right?

Nye's is still there? Jeez! I moved to Mpls. in 1971 and, freezing my you know what off, got out of there in 1979. Glad to see some things never change--Nye's, I mean.

Same waitresses, too, I'm betting. And you can still shop at Kramarchuk's across the street.

gilgamesh23 That is what they said last time, and I couldn't find them when I showed up.

Also, I am going to be there around nine, and am coming with at least two friends.

Well, we're the type of people who correct other people's grammar, like to discuss the finer points of obscure cult movies, and spend an inordinate amount of time on the internet. If we weren't at least nice, we wouldn't get too far in life.

I had the same problem last time at Brit's. But Nye's is a more open place, plus we have the reservation with the name of the group... anyway, if all else fails, Nye's is cool on a Saturday night. I'd go there anyways.

I'm gonna drive it. I'm only like a mile away, but I don't wanna walk in this weather.
Gonna be a light drinking nigh for me.
If anyone from like Hennepin and Lake and points north to Nyes needs a ride, EIP. If I have to pay for parking, I expect you to pay half though (and I hate street parking, so if there's a parkinbg garage I use it).
Probably arrive sometime after 8 but before 9.

i waited for 30 minutes for a bus last night. it kind of sucked.

hopefully the bus i take to nye's won't be late.

meatballion 2008-01-19 07:27:40 PM
I say we take some of those big dollars in the transpo. budget and outfit every bus with a GPS unit linked to the 'nets and you can lurk in front of your computer until the bus is just down the street and make a mad dash for it. That would be a smart use of Federal tax dollars along with lubricants.

HornedFrogsFan 2008-01-19 07:28:52 PM
All I can say is bundle up kids!! Especially warren, if you're waiting for a bus ;) I hope that it won't be late for you again.

Ikam 2008-01-19 07:38:39 PM
There is very little worse than standing on the corner waiting for the bus when it is -10F outside.

Sadly, I'm speaking from personal experience.
