The worst of it is, they don't top up the oil or coolant!

Really, I'm starting to think these smugglers don't have any respect for other people's things.

Goldeneye007 - are you on drugs? Smuggling people would still be a profitable enterprise, even if drugs were legalized. Plus, the legalized market would grow too rapidly for domestic distributors and the southern hemisphere would have numerical advantage - again - in ferrying supply to meet US demands.
And there would still be the gang warfare - not like the Better Business Bureau would go after these scum.

And that just about sums up our mixed up priorities here in America.

What part of the constitution gives them that right? My copy seems to be missing the "banning anything and trampling states rights" part.
Banning alcohol took a constitutional amendment, why do current day bans not need one?

The human trafficking is a sideline that they would continue, but these organizations would not have as much power or money without our current war on ourselves.

Commerce clause (article I, section 8, clause 3), which is the same part of the constitution that allows Congress to adopt virtually whatever regulation they want.

FAIL.

I've owned seven straight Fords, and just recently passed a milestone: I had to replace a tierod on my Mustang.

First EVER repair other than batteries and maintenance.

Worst car I ever owned? A Honda that I inherited from my grandmother. Piece of shiat.

Japanese cars are over-priced and ungodly over-rated.

spacechicken170am 2008-01-19 06:06:01 PM
Uncle Karl:

You're right the Toyota Tundra is a fine car. The Ridgeline is even more dependable than that and gets better gas mileage. Just go buy one of those. The f-150 has a higher payload and can tow more than the Tundra. It also has a better suspension. BTW, you are aware that the Tundra had a recall to fix a problem that causes them to suddenly veer off into one direction right? Granted they have fixed that and they have upped their payload and towing capacity but the ford still has a better suspension. Further more if you knew anything about trucks you would see that the trucks in this article are the F-250 and F-350. Toyota doesn't even have an entry in those classes.

I beg to differ, '99 Saturn SL1 109k miles I tend to forget about/can't afford stuff like oil changes and basic maintenance and I was just rear ended by a small GMC pickup. My little farking tank is still running and you almost can't tell I was in an accident.

SpinStopper: They didn't have a chip in the key until 2008? Wow. Just ... wow ;)

They have had that feature in most if not all other Ford models (except very base models), including the F-150, for many years. I guess it was an attempt by Ford to keep the larger model trucks cheaper. They didn't really implement a lot of the computer controls and interface into the larger model trucks also. I do find it troubling because with enough basic knowledge any normal starter kill can be bypassed easily. I think the chip in the key feature comes optional on those trucks if you buy a high enough feature package. What's really sad is that at most Ford dealerships you can have a "security package" added on which basically puts a piece of sheet metal behind the lock which makes it extremely difficult if not nearly impossible to use the screwdriver method. Such a simple fix to a known problem not being done by Ford but by their price gouging dealers (I think the add-on is somewhere from 200-400 bucks) is sad.

Uhh...because legal immigrants and returning US nationals don't enter the country packed six deep in the bed of an F-250, then run panic-stricken into the wasteland when their ride breaks down, but rather wait for help because they have nothing to fear from law enforcement?

Nope, just the easiest to steal. GM has been putting PassLock II or PassLock III on their heavy truck for a long time. I don't know why Ford chose to leave PATS off of their heavy truck, because they've had it on the light trucks for years.

I will answer, because it is only the abuse of the commerce clause that allows them to do it. There is a reason a constitutional amendment was needed to ban alcohol.

TheCid 2008-01-19 06:42:07 PM
The war on drugs is unconstitutional. It's a violation of privacy rights, an abuse of the commerce clause, and just plain takes away individual freedom (though this is more of a "spirit of the thing" reason).

Yoda's Pen Is 2008-01-19 06:50:11 PM
Bucky Katt: the insurance rates for ford trucks in texas will skyrocket.

Don't say things like that. It almost implies illegal immigration activities have non-linear negative impacts on the US economy.

Greek [TotalFark] 2008-01-19 06:59:01 PM
Until the 2008 model year, computer chips were not embedded in keys for F-250s and F-350s, he said. Without the "secure lock" key, which has been standard in recent years on other Ford trucks and SUVs, the electronic ignition cannot be activated.
--------------------------
WTF??? Ford was one of the FIRST US carmakers to have an immobilizer system, first on the Explorer in 1997. They added it to all their other cars shortly thereafter! But NOT on the multi- thousand dollar F350s? WTF!

Note: Before people come in here in say their GM car had an immobilizer back in 1989... it didn't. It had a form of passive theft protection that used a simple resistor embedded in the key. There were 11 possible resistance values, and if the value expected didn't match, the car wouldn't start. Easy as hell to defeat- you take 11 resistors (1 for each value) break the lock, and connect one of the resistors to the pass- key leads. You get three tries with different resistors until the system won't let you try again for 3 minutes. So you have a 3- in- 11 chance of getting away with the car on your first try. An "Immobilizer" system uses an RFID chip embedded in the key with millions of possible codes, and a rolling code algorithm that changes the code each time the car is started. Also, GM's PASS- KEY merely disabled the start circuit- you could pop the lock, turn it on, then reach under the hood and jump the starter directly. An Immobilizer system disables the starter and at least 1 other necessary part, such as the fuel pump, but most make the car's engine computer refuse to do anything at all, making it VERY hard to steal the car unless you have some pretty sophisticated equipment.

Examples of what it takes to bypass some common immobilizer systems:
Ford: The codes in the key, theft control module, vehicle computer, and instrument cluster ALL have to match, meaning that in order to steal the car, you'd have to replace ALL of those components. Alternately, you can use a reprogrammer to program a new chip to work with the existing modules... but the reprogramming process purposely takes 10 minutes, which is time that most car thieves don't have.

Saab: Key and control module must match, and the theft control module is very hard to get to. Also, it's impossible of some Saabs to simply reprogram a new key with a scanner unless you already have a working key. This makes it a big, expensive PITA if you lose all the keys, because the TWICE unit must be replaced, though there's now companies that can reprogram them, and will sell reman units on an exchange basis fairly cheaply.

Honda: key and module must match, module hard to find, and reprogramming takes a long time. Some Hondas, however, have a "cheat code" involving the handbrake, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal, intended to by used by repo men and service departments. The code is different for each car, and you have to go to Honda to get it... though a few dealers have, in the past, not requested proof of ownership before providing a code.

I may be wrong, but we the people voted representatives into office to make decisions on our behalf. They have deemed certain drugs illegal.

We could argue all day on behalf of marijuana, that isn't the point.

There are plenty of drugs that are fun to take but have definite and proven health risks.
I do not like a great deal of the decisions that come from our courts...but banning ones ability to poison themselves or sell poison to others doesn't seem to conflict with any of the rules set by greater
and much deader
people than myself

My parents have an '02 SL1 with slightly over 52,000 miles, and it's already been in for front wheel bearings, a seized caliper, a leaky trunk and now has a check engine light and bearing noise in the rear.

My '90 Accord, on the other hand, aside from normal maintenance, has needed only two batteries, a radiator, a clutch master cylinder and an alternator (all at over 150,000 miles), and it now has over 276,000 miles on it.

Coming from a state that it seems that everyone has a small penis (Sonora), I can only state a big fark you truck drivers.

I mean, it's not that I think every person driving a pick up is an asshole... Ok, I do. You know why!? Because everytime some asshole comes roaring behind, I almost crashed once, and/or changed the lane suddenly without using the signals, and guess what? They were all pick up/SUV/Hummer/Penis-car drivers!.
