(AP) News Romney takes Nevada, Ron Paul comes in second... which isn't as earth-shattering as it sounds since they were the only two actively running there   (ap.google.com) divider line 794

And Nevada inches us closer to a Republican candidate I'll never, ever vote for.

oh great, now we get to hear the paulistinians rant about how he got in second and is going to win it all

Ron Paul really won, but today is actually opposite day so they counted the votes backwards...

WHAT?
Somebody explain this to me.

I'll be very interested to see how Hillary's "sue your way to victory" campaign strategy went over with Nevada Dems.

I would like to take this opportunity to post a classic Honeymooner's line:

Ed Norton: Ralph?
Ralph Kramden: What?
Norton: Mind if I smoke?
Ralph: I don't care if you burn.

Fox News has Paul on the little ticker on the bottom, but whenever they pull up the big graphic he's nowhere to be seen. Imagine my surprise!

TribeFan695 2008-01-19 02:05:12 PM
So far, Paul's still behind McCain in the votes.

Not surprised. The political Mormon contingent out there is STRONG. Their governor, their senator are Mormons for sure. I can't remember if there are others off the top of my head.

/Shelley Berkeley is not a Mormon, however.
//I don't think Jon Porter is either.
///Same with John Ensign
////But don't quote me on that

Not News. The Elephant Caucus here in Ne-VA-Duh was over and done before it started. The only surprising thing was Paul's TV Ads commending the troops in Iraq, the picture of a random soldier they used in the ad was the spitting image of the guy who murdered (and buried in his own backyard) a female marine who was about to testify against him in a rape trial. Oops.

Entrance polls. Romney was winning those by a huge amount so they felt they could call it before votes were in.

Exit polls showed him with such an overwhelming lead that they could call it, I believe.

Long A. They get pissed when you say it with the same vowel sound that Colorado uses. Like people from Illinois look down on you when you add the "S" at the end.

Desterion: oh great, now we get to hear the paulistinians rant about how he got in second and is going to win it all

No, you get to hear about how RP gets suppressed in the media. FTFA:

Republican Mitt Romney won Nevada's caucuses Saturday while John McCain and Mike Huckabee dueled in the South Carolina primary, a campaign doubleheader likely to winnow the crowded field of presidential rivals.
[..]
Romney's western victory marked two straight successes, coming after a win in the Michigan primary earlier in the week that revived his campaign.
Alone among the Republican contenders, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas aired television ads in Nevada, and the libertarian-leaning Texan looked for his best showing of the campaign season.

The fact that he came in second wasn't even mentioned, except in an oblique manner. It says "ROMNEY WON, and um... McCAIN AND HUCKABEE BATTLED ELSEWHERE."

I turned on one of the national news broadcasts for a change the other day, I think it was CBS, and they had a big long segments on saying Nevada the right way. I turned it off before they finished.

He and Paul were the only Republicans campaigning Nevada. It was a foregone conclusion. So all they needed was a landslide of entrance polls to responsibly call it.

Its really a non-story, the state was his all along.

Entrance polls.

NORMALLY it is based on exit polls, but for some reason they do entrance polls for caucuses (I guess cause people don't leave them until the votes have been decided, so exit polls serve no purpose.. you already knew who won)

So did NBC. Nevadans get quite upset about pronunciation, apparently.

Not really. Its just that Romney was the only one campaigning. It was pretty much a guaruntee. They could have "called" it days ago, but they at least have to wait until *some* election day data comes in.

Had it been anywhere near a close race, exit polls absolutely would have come into play.

Mittens the Magical Underwear wearing Romulan is the projected winner in Nevada?

Good, cos when Huckster wins in SC it will underscore wot a leaderless bunch of discredited whackjobs the lot of them GOPhers are.

Ron Paul takes a silver medal?

He woulda gotten Gold too if it wan't fer his stumble on the dismount and that evil Russian Judge scoring him so low.

JJorsett: I'll be very interested to see how Hillary's "sue your way to victory" campaign strategy went over with Nevada Dems.

Not really getting how that's allowed to work. You are legally allowed to take time off fer the actual vote but casino workers can't take time off of work to vote in the primary which determines the candidate for the general election?

Wot the Fark?!

Somebody wasn't thinking that one all the way through.

ClintCo's machine is massive and merciless.

Fark her and her undemocratic ways.

Obama '08.

I already explained it. Entrance polls.

You'd think after NH everyone would be more careful.

To be fair, in NH the final vote tally was different han the polls for the DAY BEFORE. It wasn't like they called NH for Obama based on exit polls but then later learned Clinton won.

All it really meant was that people changed their votes between the day the polling happened and when they actually voted, not that the polls were necessarily wrong.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but they're calling this based on the exiting polling, not the 1% returns. They're not that stupid.
